The ability to verbally express one’s thoughts correctly is a feature that distinguishes humans as sentient beings. It is not enough to learn how to pronounce individual words and expressions correctly, one must also be able to link them by meaning and group them into literate sentences. To learn to speak gracefully, one must train hard and persistently.
The first thing to learn how to build a coherent and logical sentences. Perhaps you noticed that you failed: the audience does not quite understand what was said, or frankly bored when you say something. In this case, you can write down your thoughts, individual words that seem appropriate to the situation, whole sentences and paragraphs on paper. Remember that this method is suitable only for the first stages of training.
Ways to develop eloquence
Get rid of parasitic words
Because of the parasitic words the speech is delayed and becomes inexpressive. Words and expressions like “shorter”, “as if”, “actually” bore the listener. Speech in which these trite phrases sound significantly worse understood and remembered. The same can be said of the repetition of one thought several times. It makes the conversation too long and uninteresting for listeners and interlocutors.
An effective way to stop using parasitic words and repeating the same thing is to listen to your own speech. Record what you say, and then play it back and evaluate it. You can ask someone close to you to help you: let them watch you speak, and correct them every time a parasitic word slips into your dialogue. You can make up a punishment for each excessive word.
Increase your vocabulary
A rich vocabulary allows you to hold conversations with all kinds of people. Look in a glossary every time you come across a word you don’t know its meaning in a conversation or while reading.
Reading through especially difficult technical or literary works will enrich your vocabulary enormously.
Be Confident
Many people can not hold a dialogue because of the usual insecurity. If you notice that you behave too shy, it is worth working on this deficiency, because the ability to talk to yourself or a close friend and the general public or unfamiliar person – very different things.
Learn to control yourself, and then success will accompany you in all conversations.
Focus on what’s important
Detailed monologue, in which even the smallest details are noted, uninteresting and tedious. Let’s say you’ve taken up a suspenseful novel with intrigue. As you read, you notice that the book has too many descriptions and insignificant details.
Despite the fact that you are interested and want to know the solution to the mystery, you either close the book and put it in a far corner, or finish it, but without any pleasure. The same can be said of the oral form of presentation: too much detail you risk turning the most fascinating story of his life into a tedious and boring monologue. Pay attention to the important points, and forget about the little things.
