The “unparalleled romantic adventure”* of Nalini Singh’s New York Times bestselling series continues as a new dawn begins for the Psy-Changeling world...

The Psy-Changeling world has undergone a staggering transformation and now stands at a crossroads. The Trinity Accord promises a new era of cooperation between disparate races and groups. It is a beacon of hope held together by many hands: Old enemies. New allies. Wary loners.

But a century of distrust and suspicion can’t be so easily forgotten and threatens to shatter Trinity from within at any moment. As rival members vie for dominance, chaos and evil gather in the shadows and a kidnapped woman’s cry for help washes up in San Francisco, while the Consortium turns its murderous gaze toward a child who is the embodiment of change, of love, of piercing hope: A child who is both Psy…and changeling.

To find the lost, protect the vulnerable—and save Trinity—no one can stand alone. This is a time of loyalty across divisions, of bonds woven into the heart and the soul, of heroes known and unknown standing back to back and holding the line. But is an allegiance of honor even possible with traitors lurking in their midst?

Where SHARDS OF HOPE concluded a major story arc in the Psy-Changling series, ALLEGIANCE OF HONOR starts a new one which manages to both introduce us to new characters, expanding this world even more and to show us small vignettes of the lives of our favorite characters from past books. I may have hesitations about an author throwing a whole new type of shifter society, a plot involving kidnapping and deadly experiments along with sociopolitical issues, with POVs from 10 or more characters. But after 14 books full of juicy plots and well developed and awesome characters, I had full confidence that Nalini Singh would deliver. I think it's because of the vibrancy of these characters and their interconnectedness that have evolved over the series that we don't really need a central character as the story flows from narrator to narrator without missing a beat. While I am an advocate of cavalierly jumping into the middle of a series over arching story lines be damned, I'd advise not starting the Psy-Changling series with this book.

ALLEGIANCE OF HONOR is almost like taking a breath before plunging into the unknown. This is a post revolution world where we are suddenly dealing with different factions and different political issues which makes for some interesting moments seeing characters stumble and try to find their way in this strange new world. There is also a large ecological message woven in here especially since BlackSea moves out of the shadows of the narrative. We got hints of the water-based shifters called BlackSea over the past few books and in this book they move more to the center of the story with one of their own being kidnapped. I liked how this story line developed which was a story full of tension and close calls for some of our favorite characters. I loved seeing more of BlackSea's world as they are a mysterious force in the previous books. One tiny issue I had is that I really don't know what they shift into exactly in the water. It's purposely vague but I am a visual person so I want to know exactly what they look like. Are they dolphin like? I would be ecstatic for a shark or manatee shifter!

ALLEGIANCE OF HONOR is a respite before the storm of a post-Silence world. We seen old friends, pick up some new ones, and get a glimpse of new problems to meet head on. There are some interesting plot threads left open in this story and I am especially excited to learn more about BlackSea. With all of these plot threads dangling, I am not to sure of where Nalini Singh will go in the next Psy-Changling book but I can bet that it will be a vibrant and emotional experience.
