When it’s Almost Over

Yolanda Sfetsos

Hi! Firstly, I want to thank All Things Urban Fantasy for helping me celebrate the release of the fourth book in my UF Sierra Fox series. Yay. 🙂

I can’t believe the series is almost over. TORN FROM THE SHADOWS is the penultimate installment in Sierra’s story arc. Although I’m super excited about it finally being out in the wild, I’m also a little sad because I love this world. I’m in total denial and refuse to say goodbye to my spook catcher. Not until the last book has been finalized.

Actually, I’ve already got a bunch of story ideas featuring other characters in this world, and would love to write several spin-off novels. But that’s a blog post for another day.

Today I’m here to focus on the fourth book.

While I was writing TFtS, I referred to it as my ‘werewolf novel’ because we finally find out about Jason Papan’s past, and why he’s a lone wolf. In case you don’t know who Papan is, he’s Sierra’s love interest. He also happens to be a sexy PI, a werewolf, and an all-round great guy. He’s very protective of Sierra, so when his past comes knocking on her door, he’s determined to take care of it by himself. Too bad Sierra has a hard time staying out of trouble. 😉

From the beginning I knew that Papan’s werewolf past would come back to bite him someday. I just didn’t realize it would happen when things were going so well between Sierra and Papan. Isn’t that usually the way, though? No wonder Sierra’s always waiting for the other shoe to drop…

TORN FROM THE SHADOWS has a bunch of revelations, as well as the further expansion of the world and its creatures. But the biggest thing of all is that we finally find out what Sierra’s grandmother really did to strengthen her granddaughter as an infant, and what it means to Sierra once she accepts the responsibility.

When I was sketching out the series way back after writing the first book, I’d planned to deal with many of these consequences in the final book in the series. But while actually writing the second and third books I decided that dealing with Grandma’s gift, and everything it brings with it, was a much better option during the penultimate book.

I think it’s interesting to see what happens to a character after they face and accept/reject the one thing they’ve been heading towards since the beginning. Don’t you?

Thanks for reading,

All it takes is one goddess-affiliated demon to seal the deal.

Sierra Fox knows better than to believe the demon-obsessed freakshow has given up on her. She’s settled into a nice routine of living with her sister, enjoying her relationship with a sexy werewolf, and staying on top of work—and always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Predictably, things start falling apart as she’s suddenly swamped with surprise visits and unwanted advances, and someone she despises wants her help.

When a spook-catching training session goes horribly wrong, she encounters a man who’s not quite as dead as she’d hoped. Mace is now more than human and still determined to get his hands on her. But not if Sierra accepts the strengthening gifts her grandmother bestowed at her birth.

Having the good guys put a price on her head is enough to ruin anyone’s day, but Sierra refuses to give up or give in. Even if it means exercising the last option on earth she wants. But claiming the ultimate power may not be enough to save the man she loves before his werewolf past destroys him.

Warning: Phantasms, pookas, werewolves, and demons, oh yes! And a spook-catching heroine who must choose to take what’s rightfully hers—even if it means walking the shadows with a demon.

It’s hard to choose just one. I’ll narrow it down to Frost’s Cat Crawfield, Andrews’ Kate Daniels and Moning’s MacKayla Lane.

  2. munchkin

Rachel Morgan, Cat Crawfield Russell, and Gin Bianca 🙂

  3. Mary Preston

I think I would have to say that that applies to all I have read. It kind of keeps the story going.

There are so many I have a hard time picking one! but off the top of my head Kate Daniels pops up! maybe it is because I read them recentely. hopefully I get to read your books soon!

I’m in the middle of Binding the Shadows by Jenn Bennett, so I’d have to say her character, Arcadia Bell, fits this description. Kate Daniels also immediately comes to mind.
