Divided by day and night and on the run from authorities, star-crossed young lovers unearth a sinister conspiracy in this compelling romantic thriller.

Seventeen-year-old Soleil Le Coeur is a Smudge—a night dweller prohibited by law from going out during the day. When she fakes an injury in order to get access to and kidnap her newborn niece—a day dweller, or Ray—she sets in motion a fast-paced adventure that will bring her into conflict with the powerful lawmakers who order her world, and draw her together with the boy she was destined to fall in love with, but who is also a Ray.

Set in a vivid alternate reality and peopled with complex, deeply human characters on both sides of the day-night divide, Plus One is a brilliantly imagined drama of individual liberty and civil rights, and a fast-paced romantic adventure story.

Julia Says

This is a gorgeous cover. It makes me think of a romance that spans galaxies and outlasts the stars… but that title (beautifully presented as it is), sounds like a cutesy rom-com. And any book that’s going to deal with oppressed people called “Smudges” and relegated to darkness is going to need to be awesome to pull it off… I’m a little worried about this one.

Kristina Says

I like the colors and while I understand why the guy has no chin from a stylistic viewpoint he still has no chin or lower jaw, neck, etc, for that matter.

Wow, these covers are trippy and creepy.  I love the color and  her eye.

Kristina Says

It fits with the previous cover but its kind of ‘meh’ for me.

Julia Says

I like being able to see her face, and what little we can see of his is delicious.  Kissable mouth, pettable scruff… the matching shirts is a little odd, but not a deal breaker.

Kristina Says

Okay bonus points for having shirts on but I’m taking a few away for continuing to cut off the heads of models. Oh and slapping a gargoyle in the background does not make this cover look like a paranormal romance. It looks like two clothed people standing near a building with a gargoyle on it. It could be “Debbie does France”. A story of a divorcee who moves to Paris to start over and opens a bakery business. She then falls stone cold hard for a sexy French cathedral restorer…who doubles as a spy for Interpol.

Julia Says

I like the coloring, but this guy’s pose is odd.  It’s like he was boxing and someone superimposed a drinking horn into his hand.

Kristina Says

Nice horn there but where did the cool dagger from the previous cover go?!

Julia Says

The lighting in this cover is really interesting.  Her white dress and well-lit pathway does give a ghostly/ ethereal impression.  His stance and the way his arms cut across the cover are ok, but doesn’t really blow me away.

Kristina Says

I like the composition and the colors used. Its a little boring but I give it arbitrary points for the nice placement of the title. Yes I am grasping at straws here…

How are they already revealing book two of a new Jax universe book, or rather, how did I miss book one?!  Gorgeous cover, book one looks awesome, too, I’m pre-ordering immediately.

Kristina Says

I like it! She looks all badass with the chains and the hanging dangerously on that ledge thing.

Julia Says

Wait, is he SLICING DOVES?  This guys clearly hates magicians.  And birds.  And happiness.  This cover definitely raises questions…

Kristina Says

Has PETA been informed of doves being killed by an awesome katana weilding ninja? I like the illustrated swishes and general awesomness of this cover possible dove killing aside.

Julia Says

This is a cool mix of thriller and fairy tale.  She looks tactical and ready for action, and the magic swirling behind her makes it clear that there’s paranormal elements.

Kristina Says

Very classic urban fantasy with the requisit hip pop. I’m curious about what is behind her. Is it a staircase? An alleyway? I need to know these things!

Julia Says

This is really pale.  If they have any kind of metallic foil in person, it will pull it off, but looking at it digitally it seems kind of washed out.

Kristina Says

I think I saw this design drawn on a book cover in highschool. It needs to be colored in. The wing placement just looks off. I think I’d like the wings if they were centered behind the cross.

This is a gorgeous cover.  Great colors, badass cover model, and a reference to Firefly in the description.  I am so in.

Wicked as They Come (Blud, #1)

A contortionist and a rakish brigand navigate the cabarets of Paris to rescue a girl taken by slavers in the third steampunk-tinged romance of the Blud series.

Life as a contortionist in Criminy’s Clockwork Caravan should be the height of exotic adventure, but for Demi Ward, it’s total dullsville. Until her best friend, Cherie, is stolen by slavers outside of Paris, and Demi is determined to find her.

On the run from his own past, Vale Hildebrand, a dashing rogue of a highwayman, hides Demi from the slavers…but why? He pledges to help her explore the glittering cabarets of Paris to find her friend, but much to Vale’s frustration, Demi soon attracts a host of wealthy admirers. The pleasures of music, blood, and absinthe could turn anyone’s head, and it would be all too easy to accept Cherie’s disappearance as inevitable—but with Vale’s ferocious will and Demi’s drive to find her friend, they soon have a lead on a depraved society of Parisian notables with a taste for beautiful lost girls. Can Demi wind her way through the seedy underbelly of Paris and save her best friend before she, too, is lost?

Julia Says

I don’t mind some guy-liner, but this cover model’s too tiny in the picture to pull it off.  Instead of making him sexy and exotic, it just makes him look like he has no eyes, a tiny head, and some sort of wasting disease.  She seems a little oddly posed, too.  Perhaps she’s supposed to be showing off her contortionist skills?
