Period appropriate, lovely color, and a definite sense of adventure.  I wouldn’t necessarily expect paranormal elements, but this cover would still make me want to read EVERNIGHT.

Kristina Says

Its nice and its kind of a reflection of the previous book’s cover except this dude has a whole outfit on. It fits the tone of the series as well.

That brand on his shoulder doesn’t quite fit, but I’ll allow it. I’m not a fan of how the Pocket symbol in the corner matches the the title color, it distracts my eye up to that empty corner.

Kristina Says

Wow a unique kind of tattoo. Go cover artist(s)! It still looks stamped on but I enjoy the fading at the bottom of it and its really interesting looking so I’ll give it a pass.

I like the graphic border, and think the juxtaposition between it and the model looks great on book one.  This one however, with her movement, makes the cover look segmented and sloppily layered.

So much purple! I like the borders with the little objects in them.

The line between reality and dream is never entirely clear under the best of circumstances…and when John Charming finds himself being hunted through a nightmare house, it is far from the best of circumstances.

Julia Says

These short story covers are very different than CHARMING, but I love it.  The skull, the spider with the guitar, awesome.

Kristina Says

This cover reminds me sort of the Richard Scarry illustrations in a way. It makes creepy images kind of cute and whimsical.

Vampires of Manhattan (Vampires of Manhattan #1) by Melissa de la Cruz

The Vampires of Manhattan is “hipster horror”–the memorable characters from her Blue Bloods series are older and cooler than before, trying to build “Millennial” lives in the bustle of Manhattan while battling forces of evil and, of course, each other.

Hero of this sexy, paranormal action tale is Oliver Hazard-Perry, former human conduit, and Manhattan’s only human-turned-vampire, now the head of the Blue Bloods Coven. When his all-too-human lover is found murdered on the eve of the coven’s annual Four Hundred Ball–a celebration meant to usher in a new era in vampire society, and to mark the re-unification of the Coven after decades of unrest and decay–Oliver is devastated.

Now, not only is he trying to create a new world order for the immortal elite, he’s the prime suspect and is stalked by the newly installed head of the vampire secret police. Because according to the new rules, vampires who take human life can now be executed. Burned.

How can an immortal sentenced to die fight back? He has to find the killer–and the answers lie deep in vampire lore.

Julia Says

This cover seems kind of nondescript, especially compared to the claimed “hipster horror” content.

Kristina Says

That’s an angel not a vampire and I continue to eye angel statues with suspicion after seeing the Weeping Angels on Doctor Who.

Set during the Belle Epoque, Sky Pirates is a thrilling and inventive historical fantasy novel, where the myths and legends of Old Europe live side by side with the wondrous creations of modern scientists and aviators. It’s also set in a world haunted by vampires, fairies, and other supernatural creatures. And it mixes a thrill-a-minute page-turning plot with a genuinely moving love story. In Sky Pirates, Elle and Marsh escape to the jungles of Cambodia in search of a sacred temple that holds the key to erasing the barrier between Shadow and Light.

Wow, absolutely gorgeous.  This takes the theme of prior books and kicks it up a notch.  Kit looks luminous and Shaw is utterly dreamy.  I love his stubble!

He looks a bit like Don Draper or some other Mad Man character except he has wings, isn’t smoking like a chimney, and not demonstrating extreme yet culturally acceptable for the era, misogyny.

This is a gorgeous cover and definitely portrays a luminous, triumphant Joanne.

Sixteen-year-old Jae Hwa Lee is a Korean-American girl with a black belt, a deadly proclivity with steel-tipped arrows, and a chip on her shoulder the size of Korea itself. When her widowed dad uproots her to Seoul from her home in L.A., Jae thinks her biggest challenges will be fitting in to a new school and dealing with her dismissive Korean grandfather. Then she discovers that a Korean demi-god, Haemosu, has been stealing the soul of the oldest daughter of each generation in her family for centuries. And she’s next.

But that’s not Jae’s only problem.

There’s also Marc. Irresistible and charming, Marc threatens to break the barriers around Jae’s heart. As the two grow closer, Jae must decide if she can trust him. But Marc has a secret of his own—one that could help Jae overturn the curse on her family for good. Acclaimed author Kevin Hearne makes his hardcover debut with the new novel in his epic urban fantasy series starring the unforgettable Atticus O’Sullivan.

For nearly two thousand years, there was only one Druid left walking the Earth—Atticus O’Sullivan, the Iron Druid, whose sharp wit and sharp sword kept him alive while pursued by a pantheon of hostile deities. Now he’s got company.

Atticus’s apprentice Granuaile is at last a full Druid herself. What’s more, Atticus has defrosted an archdruid long ago frozen in time, a father figure (of sorts) who now goes by the modern equivalent of his old Irish name: Owen Kennedy.

And Owen has some catching up to do.

Atticus takes pleasure in the role reversal, as the student is now the teacher. Between busting Atticus’s chops and trying to fathom a cell phone, Owen must also learn English. For Atticus, the jury’s still out on whether the wily old coot will be an asset in the epic battle with Norse god Loki—or merely a pain in the arse.

But Atticus isn’t the only one with daddy issues. Granuaile faces a great challenge: to exorcise a sorcerer’s spirit that is possessing her father in India. Even with the help of the witch Laksha, Granuaile may be facing a crushing defeat.

As the trio of Druids deals with pestilence-spreading demons, bacon-loving yeti, fierce flying foxes, and frenzied Fae, they’re hoping that this time . . . three’s a charm.

I completely agree with your votes! My favorite was the Immortal Circus, too. In fact, I’m adding it to my TBR pile simply because I love the cover. (Am I shallow or what…?) I also happened to run across the Evernight book yesterday when I was scoping new titles, and I love that one as well. I don’t mind that the guy is fully clothed. I find that kinda sexy. ;)

    • Julia

Rather than “shallow”, I prefer to think of it as “rewarding a cover well done”. And boy do I do that a lot…

  2. Mina

Love “The Given” and the “Immortal Circus” covers as well… But this time, there weren’t any of the creepy, headless PNR guys without clothes? Well, nearly none. I was wondering if someone at the editorial department was finally listening? Or is it just a short reprieve before the next wave…? Questions… questions…

Maybe it’s seasonal? “Nothing says springtime like disembodied pectorals”.
