From the journal of Tracer Ronan

She has survived her first year on the Isle of Night. I’ve guarded and guided her as I can, but her trials have only begun.

Foolish, loyal girl–she wants to break into the vampire’s castle, believing it the only way to avenge her friend’s death. But I know these vampires as she does not. I know she cannot survive such a quest. She knows it too, and yet she will not rest until she finds a way into the heart of the keep. Until she sees the truth for herself.

Until she takes down the one responsible.

Can I protect her? Help her? Because if she manages to find her way inside the vampires’ lair, she’ll endure betrayals and discover secrets shocking enough to shatter her world.

Could she survive such a thing? I’ve begun to believe she’s even more powerful than the vampires have anticipated. They think they can fashion her into their weapon, but perhaps they’ll be the ones who’ll suffer. Because if anyone is capable of destroying them, it is her.

She can be as raw and as caustic as life has been to her. She is vulnerable. An open wound. But she is smart and brave and strong.

She should be somewhere else. She belongs at the best of schools, but I push this from my mind. Her fate has loomed over her since the moment of her conception. A single moment in childhood secured her fate.

She goes by Drew, but I refuse to call her this. It is the name of the man she lived with. Not her own.

To me, she is Annelise.

Veronica Wolff is an award-winning, bestselling author with a soft spot for kilts, mountains, beaches, and vampires. Not necessarily at the same time. She lived everywhere from Texas, to Hawaii, to India, before finally settling in Northern California, where she lives with her husband, two kids, and small menagerie of rescued pets.

Available on June 4, 2013 by NAL Trade

Drew has just started her second year on the Isle of Night, and the weather isn’t the only thing changing drastically. She has ascended to the rank of Initiate. She’s also found an intimate love in the handsome vampire, Carden. But most of all, she no longer dreams of escape. She dreams of vengeance.

Her friend, Emma, was brutally wounded by the savage vampire Alcántara, and may have been taken to the dreaded castle, from which none of the living return. But there are so many different stories from so many people with so many of their own deceits and machinations, Drew can’t be sure of anything—except that she must find a way into the castle to discover the truth and take down Alcántara once and for all.

But Drew isn’t the only one out for revenge. Someone very dangerous on the island is also out for blood…

I’m ridiculously excited for this feature this month.

I’ve not read this series, at all, but this makes me want to pick up the first one!

  2. Mishel

I have this series on my tbr list but have yet to pick up any. I love this feature and it definitely bumps the books up on my radar!

  3. Victoria Zumbrum

  5. [email protected] GREAT read

Eep! So behind in this series! 2 books, is too much behind!

So, I’m not sure I can actually pose a question since I haven’t read the books in so long and haven’t had time for a refresher. Might have to go with something simple…

Drew, how do you find the strength to keep moving on with all the challenges you have had to face? What drives you to keep going?

  6. Viki S.

This sounds great. I love the post – you seem to have great respect for Annelise.

  7. Deb R

I am currently reading this series. It is fantastic!

  8. Susan S.

Thanks for the giveaway. I have been wanting to check out this series.

  9. Mary G Loki

Awesome! If you could meet one person from anytime who would it be and why?

  10. Kristy I.

Thanks for the giveaway opportunity! It looks like a very interesting series, beautiful eye catching cover.

  11. Aranza

GREAT! I have a question for Ronan: Ronan, are you jelous of Carden?

  12. Linda Townsend

Wow! I love this cover! The book sounds like it’s right up my alley too! I’d love to win it! Thank you for the giveaway!!!!!
My question… do you have a hard time writing a character out? I mean… do you ever relate to your characters so much that it’s traumatic to end them? I don’t think I could do it. :-)))

  13. Janie McGaugh

Sounds like a good story. Thanks for the giveaway!

  14. Jasmyn

I have had my eye on this for a little while now. I hope I get a chance to try it soon.

  15. Veronica Wolff

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the wonderful comments!

Jessica, to answer your question, Drew is a survivor through and through. Added to that, she’s an incredibly loyal friend, and ultimately I think that’s what keeps her going.

Mary, if I could meet anyone…WOW…that’s a hard question! There are famous female writers whom I’d very much love to meet, like Dorothy Parker, Jane Austen, or Georgette Heyer. But honestly–and you’re going to think I’m just trying to promo my books here and I swear I’m not–the people I’d most want to meet are the famous Scottish warriors who inspired my time travel series. These men were fierce, sometimes funny, and always loyal, and I’d love to get a peek at them in the flesh. (ahem)

Aranza, funny you should ask…the next installment in this series is a novella told from Ronan’s point of view, and in it you’ll see exactly what Ronan’s thoughts on Carden are!

Linda, yes, I do get quite attached! There was one character in particular–again, in my old time-travel series–whose death scene tore my heart out. It was particularly difficult knowing that’d been his fate in real life.

And finally, Donna, oh! Don’t make me pick a favorite part! LOL. I confess, went a little nuts at the end of The Keep, and if I really had to choose, then the ending sequence of this book is my favorite. 🙂

Thanks again to everyone for stopping by! I hope you enjoy the book!

  16. Kai W.

One of my all time favorite series. I’m completely addicted. 😀

  32. Maggie G

I love blogs! It keeps me in the loop with all the books I’ve never heard of like ‘The Keep”. And though this is the 4th book of the series I am excited to add this series to my TBR list! 🙂

  33. Joani S

I haven’t read any of her books but they do sound good. I didn’t see any available in audio format. Do you think they’d “read well” in that form?

  37. Kirsten

This books sounds fantastic. What made you start writing in this genre?

  38. Colleen W

I am going out to buy the first one today. I don’t know why I have not heard of this before. It is so right up my ally.

  39. Caty R

Read the first three in two days…I will probably devour this one just as fast

  40. Melissa B.

I love vampire stories and this one sounds very exciting.

  41. Natalie

This sounds like a really good series that I would like to sink my teeth into!

  42. Brittany Hardy

Devoured the first two books then kind of stalled on the third one, but I’m still loving this series. I love it when YA isn’t afraid to be violent. And doesn’t have a nimrod heroine.

  43. Ed Nemmers

How was the stubble length of the gentleman on the book cover determined?

  44. Donna Pyszk

Hello Veronica, What was the most enjoyable book for you to write?

  45. Mya Murphy

I love all things vampires!! However, it seems like vampires and werewolves are overdone, at times. Do you have any goals into adding more not so known creatures?

  46. Brenda Elsner

Sounds like a great series. My type of reading!! I am going to check them out!!!

  47. Jess Ure

This looks like a good series and I can’t wait to start reading it to find out!

  48. Buddy Garrett

Hi Veronica! Where do you get inspiration for your books from?
