Natalie J. Damschroder’s Riley Kordek on Boston, Atlanta, Rhode Island, Oregon from HEAVY METAL

All my life, I was told goddesses weren’t real. The Society for Goddess Education and Defense was on my mother’s and grandmother’s permanent sh** list, and I always assumed they’d been scammed or something. I’d never met anyone claiming to be a goddess, though I knew such people were out there. Honestly, it wasn’t something I thought much about, until the day I turned 21 and my own abilities manifested.

The world never changed. It’s not like creatures appeared around me. No underworld reared up to fill spaces I didn’t know existed. Instead, real life took on a new dimension. Suddenly, parked cars…a copper barrette…a silver pen…seemingly innocuous things became conduits for an energy that had always been there but that only certain people—like me—could tap into.

My life turned upside down at first. I was alone, with strange things happening all around me. I became a target of some faceless but wholly human harasser. Because of them, I lost my job, my home, and very nearly my sanity.

Until I met Sam Remington, and the world made sense again. Not at first, because a lifetime of belief held up under the battering of rational argument. But Sam convinced me that what I could do, what we *all* could do, was real. That the Society and its members weren’t a threat to me, but a chance to find myself at home again.

Of course, just when I’d started to feel safe and whole, to embrace the new “reality plus” in the world around me, a sinister element reared its ugly head, putting the entire goddess community in danger…

Natalie J. Damschroder grew up in Massachusetts, and loves the New England Patriots more than anything. (Except her family. And writing and reading. And popcorn.) When she’s not writing romantic adventure for Carina Press and paranormal romance for Entangled Publishing, she does freelance editing and works part time as a chiropractic assistant. She and her husband have two daughters they’ve dubbed “the anti-teenagers,” one of whom is also a novelist. (The other one prefers math. Smart kid. Practical.)

Heavy Metal (Goddesses Rising, #2)

Available on August 27, 2013 by Entangled Publishing

The world is not what Riley Kordek imagined. On the run from those who’ve targeted her, all Riley wants is a chance to figure out her new ability to bend metal’s energy. When a hot guy who knows more than he should helps her escape her attackers, she thinks she might’ve found someone who can lead her to the answers she needs.

Three years ago, Sam Remington walked away from his employer and the woman he loved, and now, all he’s looking to do is fill the gaping hole left behind. Except, when Sam takes Riley to the Society for Goddess Education and Defense, the stakes rise beyond what either of them could have imagined.
After being alone for so long, falling for Sam would be far too easy—and far too painful, once his old flame calls needing his help. Worse, Riley uncovers a plot with disastrous ramifications not only for herself, but for Sam and the people he loves—and potentially every goddess in the country.

  1. Barrie

How did Riley’s mom and grandma react when Riley’s abilities manifested?

Sounds like a great book and the cover…YOWZA! 🙂

    • Natalie J. Damschroder

      Hi, Barrie!

That’s part of the problem—Riley’s an orphan, with no family members left on her mother’s side of the family. Her abilities manifested shortly after her parents and sister were killed in a car accident, so she’ll never know if they’d have changed their tune and embraced her or if they’d have shunned her.

  2. Dawn Roberto

A question for Natalie- What inspired you to create this world/series?

    I love the cover….*drools*

    • Natalie J. Damschroder

      Hi, Dawn! Great question!

I love writing paranormal because it lets me make stuff up, and many years ago, I had an idea for a scene where a young woman makes it snow in her office and is soon told that she’s a goddess, descended from the ancients. That scene never made it into anything, but goddesses stuck with me. 🙂 I also wanted to do a bromance, so a lot of the overarching story came from the push-pull between Sam and Nick.

  3. Kai W.

The story has this government agency plot, maybe a love triangle, and paranormal involved. I wonder what is the danger that Sam and Riley will be facing. Sound like this will be a series. If it is, have you decided how many books will be in this series?

    • Natalie J. Damschroder

      Hi, Kai!

Goddesses Rising is a trilogy. Under the Moon is available now. Heavy Metal (see above 🙂 ) is book 2, and comes out next month. Sunroper, book 3, will be out at the end of December. Details are on my website!

  4. Natalie J. Damschroder

Hi, everybody! Thanks so much for entering and commenting! I’ll answer questions individually, but YES on the cover! LOL Liz Pelletier designed it, and I think it’s my favorite of all my covers. 🙂

  5. Stephanie F.

Definetly adding to my TBR list. Sounds fantastic. I love the idea of the ability to influence metals and that cover is HOT.

  6. Kirsten

Sounds absolutely fun and fantastic!! Can’t wait to read!!

  7. Denise Z

I recently picked up Under The Moon and if I am reading this right each book is a new adventure with different characters in essentially the same world and I think it is going to be fun to see how each story plays out. Thank you for sharing with us.

    • Natalie J. Damschroder

Hi, Denise! Thanks so much for picking up Under the Moon!

Each book focuses on a different hero and heroine, but the characters from Under the Moon play a big role in Heavy Metal and Sunroper. The main storylines also mostly stand alone, but build on the previous books.

  8. Barbara Elness

This sounds like a very interesting story, I like that the heroine has an ability to bend metal’s energy, that’s something I haven’t seen. I’m looking forward to reading Heavy Metal and getting to know Riley and Sam.

  9. Eva Millien

Thanks for sharing this post, I don’t know how I missed this author. But I have added Riley to my TBR list. It definitely sounds like my kind of book.

  14. Michele A

oooooo….looks really good. It’s on my to read list now.

    thanks for the giveaway.

  15. Jennifer Crawford

Thanks for introducing us to your world – it looks amazing! I wish I had the creativity to create such amazing stories.

  16. Natalie J. Damschroder

Thanks, Jennifer! I often think the same of people who can create art or music or jewelry. I’m grateful to have people like you to enjoy the stories! 🙂

  17. Nickie

I’m looking forward to learning more about these goddesses and their abilities. Do they have different abilities besides an affinity with metal?

    • Natalie J. Damschroder

Great question, Nickie! Goddesses can all have different sources. In the first book, Under the Moon, Quinn’s abilities are strongest when the moon is full. Riley gets her power, as you know, from metal. Quinn’s sister Marley uses crystals. Other goddesses use water (rain, the ocean, a river) or trees and other plants or even soil.

  18. Angie F.

I hadn’t heard of this series, but I do like stories of gods and goddesses! I’ll definitely need to check out the first book! 😀

  19. Texas Book Lover

This is the first I have heard of this book but it sounds great…very different than other books out there!

  20. Joani S

Hi there! The book sounds really good, I’ll be checking it out. I agree, that’s a great cover! I’m glad to see you have books available in audio. I listen to books every day since I work outside. Do you listen to audiobooks?

    • Natalie J. Damschroder

Hi, Joani! I do listen to audiobooks. They have been a lifesaver on long trips that I’ve had to drive by myself, and they keep me from going insane when I do mundane chores like laundry and dishes. 🙂 I love that some of my books are in audio, and I hope the rest make it there eventually!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  21. Jolene A

This is the first I am hearing about this and now I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Thanks for the chance to win
