Cover Art Coverage

This week’s group of covers is small and sweet, without a single thumbs down in the bunch.  The newest Luxe cover is sensual and striking, and Seanan McGuire’s Verity Price is back and ready to kick butt.

“So it’s no secret that I love the covers DAW gives me, and that showing them off is one of my true pure joys in life. And this one is really pretty, guys. I mean it’s really, really pretty. I could not be happier if I tried.” – Seanan McGuire

Abigail’s Thoughts

I love Aly Fell’s style. The colors are intensified and the characters slightly surreal. I also really like the non-sexualized portrayal of the girls

Julia’s Thoughts

DISCOUNT ARMAGEDDON is a hard act to follow, and this one doesn’t quite get the job done.  I like that Verity is ready for action, but the colors and staging are rather boring.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Unique style. And I commend the practical fighting clothes…Okay somewhat more practical.

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well… There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger… and they know it.

“We can finally share the official cover of OPAL, the third book in the Lux Series. I’m so excited to share it with you, plus the blurb.” – Jennifer L. Armentrout

Abigail’s Thoughts

An early version of this cover was leaked, so the publisher completely redesigned it…and wow am I glad they did. The leak version was good, but this is far and away the best cover in the series. The colors, the intensity in his eyes. Love it!

Julia’s Thoughts

Not a fan of the photoshopped eye, but *love* the look on his face.  In those arms, I am not surprised Katy looks so blissful.

Kristina’s Thoughts

I really like the combination of that shade of blue with all of the black. His eye color really pops.

Guilt is a heavy burden for the one carrying it.

Jem Stonehouse is no exception to this rule.

What if she’d acted sooner? What if she’d fully recognised the threat? What if she hadn’t allowed the male pack members to head into the witches’ ambush?

For one, youngest pack member Josh Larsen wouldn’t be trapped in the sleep of the dead.

Now, Jem is convinced it’s her job to bring him back to life no matter what it takes— learning more about her heritage, risking pack exposure, or travelling to places she couldn’t have imagined possible.

Even if the journey endangers her soul.

Abigail’s Thoughts

I have a real problem with the total inconsistency between the covers for this series. This cover is fine, but it looks nothing like BLUE MOON or DARKNESS & LIGHT

Julia’s Thoughts

The italics on “heavy” are a little much, and I’m not a fan of how symmetrical the title/author text is.  I like the image however, the head in his hands, the lush grass, and the shadowy figure set a good mood.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Does a great job of conveying the plot of this book from the guy with his lowered head to the dark clouds looming overhead.

Red is definitely my color. Good thing, because in my line of work, I end up wearing it a lot.

Most people shy away from blood, but for an assassin like me — Gin Blanco, aka the Spider — it’s just part of the job. Still, it would be nice to get a night off, especially when I’m attending the biggest gala event of the summer at Briartop, Ashland’s fanciest art museum. But it’s just not meant to be. For this exhibition of my late nemesis’ priceless possessions is not only the place to be seen, but the place to be robbed and taken hostage at gunpoint as well. No sooner did I get my champagne than a bunch of the unluckiest thieves ever burst into the museum and started looting the place.

Unlucky why? Because I brought along a couple of knives in addition to my killer dress. Add these to my Ice and Stone magic, and nothing makes me happier than showing the bad guys why red really is my color.

“The cover artist is Tony Mauro, who has also done the other covers in the series. Once again, I think he’s done an excellent job capturing Gin and the story.” – Jennifer Estep

Abigail’s Thoughts

Not loving Gin looking like a hooker…not sure what that’s about. I do like the bank vault background, and this is a Tony Mauro cover, so it is well done.

Julia’s Thoughts

Past events have shown that Gin is hell on evening wear, and I love this glimpse of her on the prowl.

Kristina’s Thoughts

I like it but why is Gin wearing a dress that doesn’t hid any of her knives? And what’s with the hooker boots.

seduced by power,
broken by control,
and consumed by love…

Vi has made her choice between Jag and Zenn, and the Resistance may have suffered for it. But with the Thinkers as strong as ever, the rebels still have a job to do. Vi knows better than anyone that there’s more at stake than a few broken hearts.

But there is a traitor among them…and the choices he makes could lead to the total destruction of everything Vi has fought for.

Vi, Jag, and Zenn must set their problems aside for the Resistance to have any hope of ending the Thinkers’ reign. Their success means everything…and their failure means death.

“I especially LOVE the tagline “broken by control.” It’s just so perfect on so many levels. So what do you think??” – Elana Johnson

Abigail’s Thoughts

There is such an interesting simplicity about these covers. The test tube is a nice fit.

Julia’s Thoughts

Prior covers looked contrived, but I love the slender flower in the test tube.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Love the flower in the test tube! Fits well with the previous book’s bird in a mason jar.

Abigail’s Thoughts

I wish there was a little something extra about these covers, but I’m loving the books themselves.

Julia’s Thoughts

A little darker than book one, these covers have a very “thriller” feel.

Kristina’s Thoughts

I like the disorientation in both of these covers but they are kind of just okay for me.

R.H. Ragona’s Circus of Magic is the greatest circus of Ellada. Nestled among the glowing blue Penglass — remnants of a mysterious civilisation long gone — are wonders beyond the wildest imagination. It’s a place where anything seems possible, where if you close your eyes you can believe that the magic and knowledge of the vanished Chimaera is still there. It’s a place where anyone can hide.

Iphigenia Laurus, or Gene, the daughter of a noble family, is uncomfortable in corsets and crinoline, and prefers climbing trees to debutante balls. Micah Grey, a runaway living on the streets, joins the circus as an aerialist’s apprentice and soon becomes the circus’s rising star.

But Gene and Micah have balancing acts of their own to perform, and a secret in their blood that could unlock the mysteries of Ellada.

You must check out more of Tom Bagshaw’s art at his site: http://www.mostlywanted.com/ beautiful stuff.

Julia’s Thoughts

Forget clowns, harlequin are the new scary image.  I love how eerie and arresting this cover is.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Really beautiful. I love the little dragonfly(?) detail on the mask.

From New York Times bestselling author Patrick Carman, a teen fantasy-adventure of epic proportions. In 2051, some teens have a “pulse,” the power to move objects with their minds. Compulsively readable, with thrilling action scenes and a tender love story.

The year is 2051, and the world is still recognizable. With the help of her mysterious classmate Dylan Gilmore, Faith Daniels discovers that she can move objects with her mind. This telekinetic ability is called a “pulse,” and Dylan has the talent, too.

In riveting action scenes, Faith demonstrates her ability to use her pulse against a group of telekinesis masters so powerful they will flatten their enemies by uprooting street lights, moving boulders, and changing the course of a hurtling hammer so that it becomes a deadly weapon. But even with great talent, the mind—and the heart—can be difficult to control. If Faith wants to join forces with Dylan and save the world, she’ll have to harness the power of both.

Patrick Carman’s Pulse trilogy is a stunning, action-filled triumph about the power of the mind—and the power of love.

Abigail’s Thoughts

I love how subtly sinister this is. The houses at the bottom are straight out of Stepford, and the floating tree is gorgeous.

Julia’s Thoughts

I love the Edward Scissorhands neighborhood down below, the clouds arcing in the background.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Nice floating tree. I like the ‘pulse’ lines over the tree.

Abigail’s Thoughts

Beautiful cover, but it does suggest a more steamy story than this series tells. Also, this couple is always synonymous with Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series covers.

Julia’s Thoughts

Daemon is cheating on Katy!  Or wait, are both cover models cheating on Luxe?  I love the scruff.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Very beautiful indeed. I like the edge borders on these books.

Abigail’s Thoughts

I really like how her eyes always match the pop color on these covers. Totally works for a series about a witch.

Julia’s Thoughts

Fits the series, but not a big fan of this electric purple.

Kristina’s Thoughts

This may be an odd comment but I like the textures on this cover. It looks like the dress flows into the landscape somehow.

Abigail’s Thoughts

Bit of a departure from the previous covers. Wish it ties in more to the series name (The FBI Psychics series)

Julia’s Thoughts

I like the movement in this cover, but the shadowy palm trees are an odd note.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Don’t really like the bluriness on this one. I kind of get what they are trying to do which I like but it isn’t exactly working completely for me.

I agree with you Julia, I remember when I was in High school, and Reading the Anita Blake series it didn’t have a category . I would always find it in the Library as Fiction with other authors with completely different genres that we know today. Also when I went in the book store it would be Mystery section or Thriller/ Suspense section. Now you enter a Book store and they have a paranormal section or Urban Fantasy section, which is lovely to see. I am amazed and Jealous the majority of the High School Kids now because they have way more paranormal books than I ever did when I was there age. I am glad that now there more open to these genres than ever before that it’s so huge that we call it paranormal and before that it just books with no category. :)

Well, it’s a bit strange look for Gin Blanco, but I guess there is story behind red dress and those boots… I like Shiloh Walker’s Protected cover…
