William Shakespeare has long been the world’s best-known playwright. This English poet and playwright wrote 17 comedies and 11 tragedies.

In addition he wrote 154 astonishing sonnets, five impressive poems and a dozen historical chronicles. His most popular works are A Midsummer Night’s Dream, King Lear, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, The Moor of Venice and, of course, Romeo and Juliet.

The genius of William Shakespeare is rightly considered not only in England but also far beyond its borders. As you know, the works of this master are a peculiar encyclopedia of human relationships, in which the author manages to skillfully and masterfully expose the souls of people, openly showing their true essence.

No one has ever reached the same heights of dramatic achievement that Shakespeare did. For many scholars it is still a mystery how in the 16th century a man was able to create such great works, which many years later have not lost their relevance.

The images of the heroes of his works have long been symbolic: such names as Otello and Iago are associated with credulity and cunning, Romeo and Juliet with sacrificial love, Falstaff with bravado and cowardice.

Shakespeare did a wonderful job of helping people see the world and themselves in a new light.

It is believed that the oldest poems in the world were written as far back as the 23rd century B.C. Enkheduanna is the name of the first poetess whose works have survived to the present day. It is assumed that at that time she was a priestess and an Akkadian princess.

The work of the first poetess was discovered relatively recently, in the 1920s, by an archaeologist from England. His find was a translucent disc made of alabaster. On one side of this disc was preserved the image of a priestess, but on the other side was written in cuneiform.

The earliest works of authorship in written history are the “Hymns to Inanna. These religious poems are dedicated to the main female deity, the goddess Inanna. A third of her works are temple hymns describing sanctuaries and the gods who dwell in them. All her works are remarkable in that they are narrated in the person of the author, that is, in the first person.

Surprisingly, many facts about Enkheduanna have been preserved. For example, it is known that she was a daughter of Sargon, the first ruler of united northern and southern Mesopotamia.

The Akkadian ruler himself wrote that his mother was a priestess. She concealed the birth of her son and decided to hide the newborn son in a reed basket. The priestess dipped this basket into the river, which brought the child to Akki. She was discovered by a farmer who raised the baby as his son. Sargon wrote that he toiled in the garden, and the goddess Ishtar rewarded him by giving him a royal rank.

All this came to light during the archaeological excavations at Ur. It was in 1927 that people were able to see not only the cuneiform, but also what the poet herself looked like. Thanks to her, in addition to the names of the rulers, the names of the priestesses have been mentioned in the cuneiform inscriptions ever since.

It took many years to translate Enkheduanna’s most famous work, in which Inanna is praised. This work was not fully translated until 1968.

The beginning of the hymn is 65 lines of descriptions. All the epithets were carefully chosen by the poetess and served to characterize the goddess. The hymn is followed by a description of the goddess of battles, in which she compares the goddess herself to a storm bird and the lesser gods to bats.

Later Encheduanna was exiled from the greatest temple of antiquity, which was destroyed by a rebel. It is also known that this same rebel even molested the priestess.

The novel “Futility” is a surprisingly accurate account of the terrible tragedy that happened to the world-famous giant ship Titanic.

The author of the novel testifies that during his illness he saw an unthinkable grandiose sea liner. Pictures of the ship’s destruction flashed before him, he heard the screams of terror of people drowning in the ocean. Time revealed that M. Robertson’s vision was prophetic. The book is incredibly coincidental with the events of the sinking of the Titanic that took place in reality. For some readers this makes a frightening impression.

The prophetic work of futility was written in 1898 by Morgan Robertson. It took place fourteen years before the wreck of the real Titanic. The novel was published for the first time in England. There was M. Robertson was an unknown writer at the time, and a retired sea captain in the past. He was a sailor with a very rich experience, experienced in his life at sea a lot of extreme situations. Many times he faced how people died during shipwrecks.

In his novel the writer describes a ship called the Titan, which perished in the Atlantic Ocean because it ran into an iceberg, even though it was previously considered an unsinkable ship. The passengers on the ship were very wealthy people, which adds to the resemblance to real events in the book. Like the real Titanic, the “book ship” was quite impressive in size.

Another important detail is that M. Robertson’s ship was equipped with everything possible except the main thing – a sufficient number of lifeboats and other tools for rescuing passengers. Thus, on the lifeboat deck there was not even a knife or any other sharp tool with which to cut the ropes to lower the lifeboats into the water.

At the sinking of the Titanic, as we know, the lookouts had no binoculars or flares to signal the disaster. The ship described by the writer in his novel was so large and massive that it would have easily crushed any other ship without hurting itself in the process.

Only an iceberg could have been heavier and more dangerous. The real Titanic encountered an iceberg. The novel failed to qualify as popular literature as soon as it was published. Its publishers lamented that they undertook the publication of the work in vain. The sinking of the real Titanic changed their attitude dramatically.

Robertson’s novel proved prophetic, and the author became instantly famous. The writer’s book was republished in 1912 with an updated title, Futility, or the Wreck of the Titan.

The writer’s fame instantly exceeded all possible expectations, but it also had a negative side for the writer. Relatives of the deceased passengers of the ship were literally hated by Morgan Robertson. After the sinking of the liner, the author of the novel began to receive letters of accusation, as if he was responsible for this tragedy.

Today Morgan Robertson is even declared the great prophet of the 20th century. He died three years after the sinking of the Titanic. Although he penned more than one novel about the ill-fated ship and several other works, these days no one remembers them.
