With many anthologies it tends to be hit or miss depending on which short story I am reading in it. DARK DUETS has an excellent idea with authors pairing up to write some seriously dark urban fantasy tales.

KICKING IT offers intriguing glimpses into nine unique urban fantasy worlds, with sassy heroines and magical missions and enough of an adventure that I want to come back for more. Some of these series were familiar, some completely new to me, but all were entertaining and well put together.
Why isn’t this series a TV show yet? The CW? ABC Family? The Morganville Vampires is perfect for primetime. The cast of characters has expanded over the series without loosing focus on the core relationships, the setting of a vampire run college town is the perfect blend of chills and intrigue, and the storylines that Rachel Caine continues to spin are even hotter at book fourteen then they were at book one!
Today we have another guest cover commentator, the eponymous Tez of Tez Says. Tez brings the snark and the funny and the tentacle awareness, three things that made my day and would be an asset at any party. We ran into more covers than we had time this week, but all “over flow” can be found on our Pinterest boards. Enjoy! Kate Says This reminds me of the photos I took in high school and ran through a filter in an effort to look artsy. It’s a bit blah. Julia Says This cover does a great job mixing horror and humanity. We are thrilled to exclusively reveal the cover for the upcoming urban fantasy anthology (with art by the one any only Tony Mauro) CARNIEPUNK which hits shelves on July 30th 2013 from Pocket Books! CARNIEPUNK Description A star-studded urban fantasy anthology featuring bestselling authors Rachel Caine, Rob Thurman, Seanan McGuire, Jennifer Estep, and Kevin Hearne, whose stories explore the creepy, mysterious, and, yes, sometimes magical world of traveling carnivals. The traveling carnival is a leftover of a bygone era, a curiosity lurking on the outskirts of town. It is a place of contradictions—the bright lights mask the peeling paint; a carnie in greasy… Read more »
This Thanksgiving week we have a full slate of steampunk and beefcake to share! I do love a hero in a t-shirt and Lynn Viehl’s Lords of the Darkyn series has a new, dreamy look. For those who prefer their heros to show a little more skin, however, have no fear, Paul Marron is here! He is showing off enough man boob to make Khal Drogo blush, enjoy! The blood hits the proverbial fan in BITTER BLOOD and the fallout makes it one of the most daring Morganville books to date. I’ve long had a number of ‘what if’ questions floating around in my head involving certain Morganville residents that I honestly never expected to actually happen, but Rachel Caine completely shocked me in BITTER BLOOD by letting not one, or two, but three HUGE game changing events play out (one of which still has me reeling).
It’s rare that a sequel can top its predecessor, and given the enthusiastic 5 bats I gave WORKING STIFF, I never expected TWO WEEKS’ NOTICE to become my new favorite in the series. The bleak circumstances of the first few chapters set me up for a mind blowing ending that has my excitement about this series turned up to an all time high.
