With A KISS BEFORE DOOMSDAY, the Dru Jasper series has quickly become one of the series I’m adding to my must-buy list. With its down-to-Earth heroine and the creative situations she finds herself in, A KISS BEFORE DOOMSDAY is super enjoyable and I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
IT HAPPENED ONE DOOMSDAY is without a doubt light, quirky, and entertaining urban fantasy. A quick read, IT HAPPENED ONE DOOMSDAY has a heroine more comfortable surrounded by books than doing magic, and a hero (anti-hero?) who drives a muscle car. It is not your typical urban fantasy, and that’s one of the things I loved about it!
BLACK CITY SAINT is a dense urban fantasy that’s got a lot going for it. It’s fairly original, being set in the 1920s instead of modern day, and the juxtaposition of the Christian tradition with the fae mythology is interesting, to say the least. However, BLACK CITY SAINT was difficult to get through at times and where the world-building succeeded, the character development failed.
Thief’s Covenant is an amazing young adult novel, one of the best I’ve read this year. This book is a very dark young adult book, and because of that I feel a lot of adults will be able to appreciate this story as well.
I’ll admit to being a bit wary of a book based on a comic. In fact, I had very low expectations for HEXED: THE SISTERS OF WITCHDOWN. And while it didn’t blow my mind, HEXED was still an enjoyable young adult read with some fun characters and creative mythology.
