The End We Start From by Megan Hunter

The End We Start From by Megan Hunter

Motherhood is complex. Your body changes, your identity changes. THE END WE START FROM takes these overwhelming changes and throws in an apocalyptic event for good measure. The story starts as the unnamed narrator, with her husband and friends, prepares for a water birth. In the first few pages the prose is purple, drenched in metaphor rather than conveying the narrator’s frame of mind. It’s not until the narrator gives birth and goes to her in-laws that the story really starts.

5Bat! Review: The Boy On The Bridge (The Girl with All the Gifts #2), by M. R. Carey

5Bat! Review: The Boy On The Bridge (The Girl with All the Gifts #2), by M. R. Carey

The events of THE BOY ON THE BRIDGE overlap with what happens in THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS. It isn’t necessary to have read the first book, there are definite points that will be less fun if you’re not caught up on what happened in the first book.

What I loved best about THE BOY ON THE BRIDGE was the the way the military and scientific communities played off each other.

I was quickly pulled into THE VEIL when Chloe Neill described the large box mounted cameras that would be triggered by magic use. The cameras carefully watching for anyone using magic or with magical abilities on most street corners instantly created a strong post-apocalyptic feel to the paranormal world that really peaked my interest.

Original and intriguing, HOUSE IMMORTAL falls closer to the science-fiction spectrum of books than urban fantasy. However, with the kickass heroine, powerful, near immortal beings, fun sidekicks, and original world, HOUSE IMMORTAL will definitely appeal to the standard urban fantasy reader.

Review: White Heart of Justice (Noon Onyx #3) by Jill Archer

I’ll admit it – after book two in the Noon Onyx series, I wasn’t super eager to keep reading. However, as soon as the cover to WHITE HEART OF JUSTICE came out, I knew I had to stick with it, logic being that there was no way a cover so pretty could be on a bad book. Luckily, I was rewarded with a well-written world, a maturing heroine, and enough action to keep me entertained the whole book.
