HARD BREAKER is a fun, action-filled book that works shockingly well as a standalone book especially considering it is the last book in a series. The flashback introduction helps set the world of Guardians/gargoyles and magic in just a few pages getting you up to speed on the who, why, and what of the overall story arc.
Working to take down an evil organization is hard when you’re still on the inside. As the 3rd book in a series, SIGHTLINES wraps up the Community plotline. As an evil company, Community seems to get worse and worse with every chapter. Inside the Farm, there’s torture, reprogramming and rape. Despite the bleakness, Chase Payne’s sarcasm and constant dickery keeps the bleakness from getting too dark.
The MONSTER HUNTER FILES anthology is a brilliant view into the Monster Hunter International series through the lens of some of my favorite authors and some new authors I should explore in the future.
SPARKED starts with a smolder rather than a true burn, carefully introducing the characters and their home life. Despite the sluggish start, I was thoroughly hooked once more details of Ivy’s disappearance were revealed, along with the mysterious love interest.
BLACK BIRD OF THE GALLOWS fits in a lot of YA paranormal romance cliches while somehow also managing to be very unique and totally creepy. The creative mythology really gives a lot of oomph to what could be a very flat and boring YA paranormal romance.
ASHES REBORN is a brilliant urban fantasy story with unique characters and a plot filled with action, suspense, and intrigue. The mythology of phoenixes is complex and refreshing in a genre filled with vampires, witches, and werewolves.
WOLF HUNT is high on suspense and action with a wonderfully steamy romance which makes it yet another excellent installment of this series. I’m a fan of suspense, so I was pretty okay with the romance taking a back seat to the cool, intense, and dangerous plot revolving around werewolf mythology.
In an attempt to diversify my paranormal romance reading materials I picked up HIS COMMAND because I hadn’t read anything about genies recently and I was drawn to the absurdly purple-pink cover. Was it going to be wondrously cheesy?
SEAL WOLF UNDERCOVER is a good read with witty banter between two strong shifters and a plot that evolves into something bigger than you think it will be when starting the story. The rhythm of the plot is pretty steady and moves in a typical way you’d expect from a book in the Heart of the Wolf series.
