If you enjoy your fairy tales sweet and simple, I HATE FAIRYLAND is not for you. If on the other hand you like them messed up and full of violence committed by the most adorable 40 year old ever, you’re in for a vanilla and violence flavoured treat!
Once you get past the cover, Cross’ third installment in the Vampire Blood series, THE WHITE LILY is a sexy adventure with two protagonists you can’t help but root for.
Working to take down an evil organization is hard when you’re still on the inside. As the 3rd book in a series, SIGHTLINES wraps up the Community plotline. As an evil company, Community seems to get worse and worse with every chapter. Inside the Farm, there’s torture, reprogramming and rape. Despite the bleakness, Chase Payne’s sarcasm and constant dickery keeps the bleakness from getting too dark.
GRIGORI is a modern fairy tale set in Russia, in deep dark libraries, high rise condos, and sprawling estates in the forests. It stars fun new mythology and just enough tropes to be fun.
Madelyn is a university professor on sabbatical, researching dragon mythology in Russia, when she stumbles on a secret and gets kidnapped by the very rich, very imposing Grigori.
The third volume of THE BEAUTY is a prequel to the first volume, and I have to say I really loved getting to know characters before the glam hit the fan. In the early days, no one knew how deadly the Beauty could get… except for the psycho who is targeting the newly beautiful.
AN ALCHEMY OF MASQUES AND MIRRORS is a well-crafted, absorbing novel. In fact, Princess Isabelle might be one of my favourite characters. She kind, smart, and accustomed to the glares that come her way. Her disability and lack of magic make her an outcast.
With its small doses of magic and potions, A SECRET HISTORY OF WITCHES is more a historical novel than fantasy. The novel follows six generations of Orchiére women handing down their witchcraft. As knowledge is passed down, elements are lost or corrupted. It doesn’t take long for ancestral rituals to be forgotten in the face of a changing society.
My only complaint about SNOWSPELLED is that it is too short! Leaving me desperate for the next book in the The Harwood Spellbook series, SNOWSPELLED is an adorable romantic novella with a bit of a mystery. It’s exactly what I would have expected from the author of KAT, INCORRIGIBLE.
You know a book is good when you start slowing down your reading speed and putting the book down because you’re not ready to leave the world of the story. You’re not ready to leave behind the characters you’ve grown to care for, even if this could be their happily ever after. THE DRUID NEXT DOOR is that kind of story and I’m so glad that it lives up to the first book in the series, CUTIE AND THE BEAST.
Following one’s destiny isn’t easy, especially not when there are evil kings, pirates and dragons in the way. SO I MARRIED A SORCERER is the second book in The Embraced series by Kerrelyn Sparks and it was just as much fun as the first.
