Some paranormal romance characters are so flat that it’s hard to believe their evolution, but in MAGE OF INCONVENIENCE, the heroes are perfectly imperfect; they’re from different sides of the track, but the compromises they make to make their union work feels genuine.

THE ASTONISHING COLOR OF AFTER features an absolutely beautiful cover and an entirely new premise. I was immediately drawn in by the mystery of why Leigh’s mother turned into a bird and what Leigh would discover about her family when she travels to Taiwan for the first time.
WEAVER’S FOLLY is an entertaining read with a pretty fresh premise. Aside from the brilliant futuristic setting and elves being “out of the closet” so to speak, I loved the slight allusions to Tolkien and his writings interspersed in the plot.
A PRICE GUIDE TO THE OCCULT immediately drew me in. With it’s intimate voice and rich magical backstory, Nor’s story started strong. Though readers should be warned that A PRICE GUIDE TO THE OCCULT deals with issues of self-harm and child abuse.
Perhaps it’s an odd sort of deja vu or I’ve read too many paranormal romances but towards the end of HOOKED ON A PHOENIX I started to feel like I’ve read this story before. Granted this is a unique story but it just felt done before in regards to certain plot points of what is a pretty decent and standard paranormal romance.
BURN BRIGHT wasn’t the best story in the Alpha & Omega series but it achieves what it seems to set out to do and acts as a well thought out bridge to the next book. The plot of BURN BRIGHT is kind of slow at times and relies on mostly exposition or characters sitting trying to figure things out.
SMOKE EATERS has dragons, wraiths, robots, government conspiracies, and possessed devices…and only some of those plot points work. Cole Brannigan is days away from retirement and wouldn’t you know it, he gets pulled right back into service.
DEATHLESS is a book you need to read with a strong cup of tea. It’s dark, lyrical, and makes you feel the cold of a Russian winter. DEATHLESS is a complicated book, filled with complex characters who allow themselves to be puppeted. They know that they’re archetypes, myths retold over and over. They have a role to play and they will play it, regardless of the cost.
TRICKS FOR FREE, the seventh book in the InCryptid series continues this series’ trend of high adventure, exciting storylines, and unique worldbuilding. I am constantly impressed how each book comes off as fresh and full of thrilling plots, thought-provoking social commentary, with warm bonds of friendship and family at their core.
THE MYTH MANIFESTATION is exactly what one would expect from Lisa Shearin and the SPI Files series. It’s got our sassy-as-ever Mac, action packed scenes with creepy creatures, and general all around humor and fun. Plus, this book opens the door for even more crossover between Shearin’s SPI Files and Raine Benares series.
