In an attempt to diversify my paranormal romance reading materials I picked up HIS COMMAND because I hadn’t read anything about genies recently and I was drawn to the absurdly purple-pink cover. Was it going to be wondrously cheesy?

WRAITH HUNTER is completely charming, walking the line between intense fight scenes and witty one-liners. Cal Kinsey is both self-deprecating and ambitious. He wants to be a key member of the DSI team, but PTSD has him second-guessing and acting rashly.
“If you marry me I’ll save your business” is a tried and true Harlequin Romance trope. I’ve seen it done with restaurants, bed and breakfasts and even an auction house. Usually, the big reveal is that they can be attracted to each other and still hold differences of opinion. This time, the reveal has a bit more fur and fang.
SEAL WOLF UNDERCOVER is a good read with witty banter between two strong shifters and a plot that evolves into something bigger than you think it will be when starting the story. The rhythm of the plot is pretty steady and moves in a typical way you’d expect from a book in the Heart of the Wolf series.
URBAN ENEMIES is a pretty fun romp into the twisted minds of the bad guys from various urban fantasy series. There were of course some characters who I had no clue about. Luckily each story starts off with a general summary of the series the character(s) appear in so there was some idea of what was going on.
WICKED BITE is a pretty interesting story with an intense central romance and a fun plot with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. Realm Enforcers is one of those book series that I swear up and down that I’ve read some of at some point.
RIDE THE STORM picks up right after the events of the previous book, REAP THE WIND and in typical Cassandra Palmer series tradition, we hit the ground running. The beginning of this book is non-stop action, things exploding, and Cassie remarkably not getting too maimed in the process.
I was so disappointed by the second half of this book that I only kept reading out of disbelief that a book with such a promising start had taken such a weird turn for the terrible. ELEMENTAL MATING began with an intelligent protagonist, living in Africa, doing her thing. By the end of the book she had not used her brains or her photographic memory in about a hundred pages.
RUINS & REVENGE picks up right where TREASURE & TREASON ended. The two together make for a satisfying duology within the Raine Benares series, offering adventure, danger and even some hints of romance. With a cast of characters that outshines the slightly repetitive nature of the storyline, RUINS & REVENGE is a perfect conclusion to Tam’s adventure.
HEART OF MALICE was a great introduction to what could be a pretty amazing new urban fantasy series. It ticks every box for a classic urban fantasy story: tough as nails heroine escaping from a past, fun magical abilities, and interesting enough plot complexities to carry a series with over multiple books.
