RUINS & REVENGE picks up right where TREASURE & TREASON ended. The two together make for a satisfying duology within the Raine Benares series, offering adventure, danger and even some hints of romance. With a cast of characters that outshines the slightly repetitive nature of the storyline, RUINS & REVENGE is a perfect conclusion to Tam’s adventure.
Author: Lisa Shearin
TREASURE & TREASON, the book I assume Raine Benares fans have been clamoring for, features Tam and Phaelan. AMAZING, am I right??? These two characters, the reformed dark magic practitioner goblin Tam and the endlessly amusing magic-fearing pirate captain and thief Phaelan, together – just the idea is spectacular. Reading TREASURE & TREASON is a treat, especially for fans of the series, and even new readers would find something to love, I suspect.
While I have some small quibbles, THE GHOUL VENDETTA was exactly what I expected from Shearin and The SPI Files. Fun, dramatic, witty and an all around good read, THE GHOUL VENDETTA continues the series in a great way, answering some questions while opening new avenues for the story to go down.
After ALL SPELLS BREAK LOOSE, I fully expected never to read another Raine Benares book again. Lucky for us, Shearin decided to self-publish more in the series! WEDDING BELLS, MAGIC SPELLS follows almost immediately after the events in ALL SPELLS BREAK LOOSE, and follows the same formula as other books in the series – successfully, I might add.
Oh SPI Files, how do I love you? Let me count the ways! You’ve got action to keep me occupied, sexual tension for me to swoon about, snappy dialogue to keep me laughing out loud and a cast of characters I can’t help but love. THE BRIMSTONE DECEPTION is no exception to the rule, and for me, is a perfect urban fantasy read.
I’m at a loss for words here, since I have no idea how to fully convey how much I loved THE DRAGON CONSPIRACY. This is a book I read in its entirety in one sitting, and though Shearin has long been on my auto-buy list, if she hadn’t been, this book would have made me add her. It was basically perfect for me, in every way – with sarcastic Makenna, her delicious partner Ian, constant action that starts in the first chapter, and a little unresolved sexual tension to keep everybody on their toes.
While anthologies aren’t normally my thing, the draw of the Kate Daniels and SPI Investigations stories were just too much for me to pass up in the case of NIGHT SHIFT. Luckily, the whole anthology was high caliber and well worth the read, with four outstanding stories that, though part of series in three of the four cases, manage to stand on their own.
As an unabashed Raine Benares fangirl, I was delighted when I saw Lisa Shearin was coming out with an Urban Fantasy series, SPI Files. I was also secretly terrified that my expectations were completely unrealistic and I was going to be awfully disappointed. Luckily, THE GRENDEL AFFAIR was a delightful entree into a new world, with an engaging heroine, a mysterious partner, hints of romance, and great action scenes.
