Early 5bat! Review: Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #2) by Laini Taylor

November 6, 2012 Review 2

So much of my enjoyment of DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE was tied up in the mystery of Karou’s life, the elegant unfolding of exotic magic and history, that I was worried DAYS OF BLOOD & STARLIGHT would not be able to compete. Oh, how beautifully Laini Taylor calmed my fears. DAYS OF BLOOD & STARLIGHT is just as magical, compelling, and heartbreaking as it’s predecessor, a satisfying book in it’s own right while ratcheting up my appetite for book three. This entire series is beautiful in a way that so few books achieve.

Exotic foreign locations, an unflappable teenage protagonist, creativity and art, wishes granted and mysteries unsolved; Laini Taylor’s DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE is seductive when it reads like a teenage romance and utterly irresistible once it flowers into the full reality of it’s magic and conflict. In the simplest terms, I would not recommend starting this book until you can read straight through to the end, but above anything, I would recommend that all fans of Paranormal YA, Urban Fantasy, or straight up Fantasy make sure they find time to give this book a try.
