My first thought after finishing ESPRIT DE CORPSE, the third book in The Reluctant Reaper series, was that I wish Kristy had just stayed in hell. After the dramatic cliffhanger at the end of SCYTHE DOES MATTER (so far my favorite), we find Kristy and Dante up on “the mortal coil” trying to save Kristy’s best friend Shannon, from her evil father, the same guy who was responsible for Kristy being in hell in the first place.

SCYTHE DOES MATTER was exactly what I was hoping for in the second book of The Reluctant Reaper series. Hell remained quirky, and Kristy developed a personality! I also felt that unlike THE RELUCTANT REAPER, a lot more actually happened in this book. Though short, SCYTHE DOES MATTER has a general story arc with a conclusion that exists within the larger plot line that spans multiple books.
THE RELUCTANT REAPER is exactly what one would expect from the illustration on the cover-goofy and a bit ridiculous. While it wasn’t perfect, I did enjoy this first installment in The Reluctant Reaper series, despite its flaws (and puns- so many puns). It was as advertised in the book description, quirky and wacky, and I liked learning about the hell Grant created with all of its oddities, such as how swearing pollutes the environment and strip malls are where you go to get your clothes ripped off of you.
