5bat! Release Day Review: Creatures of Will and Temper by Molly Tanzer

5bat! Release Day Review: Creatures of Will and Temper by Molly Tanzer

I finished CREATURES OF WILL AND TEMPER in one day. I must confess I have a particular weakness for Victorian settings, courting, and excessive blushing. Combine that with fencing, demons, and queer characters and you have my very devoted attention. Finishing this novel had me desperately searching for more of Molly Tanzer’s work.

Review: The End We Start From by Megan Hunter

Review: The End We Start From by Megan Hunter

Motherhood is complex. Your body changes, your identity changes. THE END WE START FROM takes these overwhelming changes and throws in an apocalyptic event for good measure. The story starts as the unnamed narrator, with her husband and friends, prepares for a water birth. In the first few pages the prose is purple, drenched in metaphor rather than conveying the narrator’s frame of mind. It’s not until the narrator gives birth and goes to her in-laws that the story really starts.

DEJA NEW follows DEJA WHO with the same amount of humor, sarcasm, and interesting storytelling. Between the characters’ parenthetical inner monologues, flashbacks, and footnotes, DEJA NEW is a creatively told romance with a heavy dose of mystery.

Early Review: Demon, Volume 4 by Jason Shiga

Early Review: Demon, Volume 4 by Jason Shiga

I’ve been interested in how this series ends since the first volume of DEMON, but the fourth and final volume didn’t really live up to the potential I felt it had. Gory and violent, the story seems to devolve into a question of what can kill the most people the fastest.

HARD BREAKER is a fun, action-filled book that works shockingly well as a standalone book especially considering it is the last book in a series. The flashback introduction helps set the world of Guardians/gargoyles and magic in just a few pages getting you up to speed on the who, why, and what of the overall story arc.
