Review: Owl and the Electric Samurai (The Adventures of Owl #3) by Kristi Charish

Review: Owl and the Electric Samurai (The Adventures of Owl #3) by Kristi Charish

May 29, 2017 Review 1

A step up from its predecessors, OWL AND THE ELECTRIC SAMURAI is a welcome departure from the all-action, little-plot formula readers are familiar with from the first two novels. Delving deeper into supernatural politics, and significantly raising the stakes, OWL AND THE ELECTRIC SAMURAI shows an maturation of both Charish’s writing, and the main character, Owl.

5Bat! Review: The Boy On The Bridge (The Girl with All the Gifts #2), by M. R. Carey

5Bat! Review: The Boy On The Bridge (The Girl with All the Gifts #2), by M. R. Carey

The events of THE BOY ON THE BRIDGE overlap with what happens in THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS. It isn’t necessary to have read the first book, there are definite points that will be less fun if you’re not caught up on what happened in the first book.

What I loved best about THE BOY ON THE BRIDGE was the the way the military and scientific communities played off each other.

Review: Mark of Truth (Wicked Kingdoms, #1) by Graceley Knox

May 23, 2017 Review 0

MARK OF TRUTH hits every expected beat in an urban fantasy/paranormal romance. There’s the loyal teammates, the hunky love interest that she kinda hates, the adopted pets, the adopted child. The world of MARK OF TRUTH is expansive (sometimes to its detriment) and features several rival fae factions.

Review: The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender

Review: The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender

May 22, 2017 Review 2

It’s hard to work up an appetite when sandwiches just want you to love them, cookies taste like anger, and your mom’s food tastes hollow. In THE PARTICULAR SADNESS OF LEMON CAKE, Rose Edelstein would have had a very normal, very dull life if it wasn’t for one thing: she can taste emotion in food. She first notices this power when tasting her mother’s lemon cake, realizing how dissatisfied her mother felt about their family. From then on, Rose has a constant battle with food, preferring mass-produced, machine-made food over handmade meals.

Review: City of Ghosts (GhostWriters Book 1)

Review: City of Ghosts (GhostWriters Book 1)

May 17, 2017 Review 0

It takes far too long for CITY OF GHOSTS to get started. Plot and character development is pushed to the second half of the novel, leaving the first half aimless. The revealed backstories aren’t enough to humanize characters who have spent the entirety of the novel telling us how women are just the worst.

Release Day Review: Catch A Tiger By The Tail by Eve Langlais

Release Day Review: Catch A Tiger By The Tail by Eve Langlais

May 16, 2017 Review 0

CATCH A TIGER BY THE TAIL takes place in the same world as LEGAL WOLF’S MATE, and with such a dramatic twist in the first book, I was still surprised by the twist in this one. These novellas are not necessarily a series; they were both released in shifter themed paranormal romance anthologies, so they’re made to be read individually. They are funny, sexy bites of paranormal romance that can be read in one sitting.
