How Much Do UF Covers Influence your Purchases?

How Much Do UF Covers Influence your Purchases?

October 30, 2009 News 12

There have been a lot of new covers posted lately for upcoming urban fantasy books (I posted 15 this month alone), and even more discussion as to the role cover art plays in book sales.  I’m wondering, how much do covers influence your purchases? Ann Aguirre expressed concern over this topic when she unveiled the cover for her upcoming Corine Solomon book, Hell Fire: “…if you compare it to other urban fantasy titles, you’ll find this is quite different. They went for a more realistic style; they also avoided using tatts or leather, which is cover art shorthand for urban… Read more »

And it is up to YOU to determine the winner! Last weeks Throwdown asked In general, do you like the movie version or the book versions better? The winner by split decision was: Book versions “A Dhampir (also dhampyre, dhamphir or dhampyr) in Balkan folklore is the child of a vampire father and a human mother. Dhampirs often have powers similar to a vampire, but none of their weaknesses (though the reverse can occur, as well)…. Read more »

Rating Systems: Yay or Nay?

Rating Systems: Yay or Nay?

October 26, 2009 News 2

To Rate or Not to Rate… A lot of sites and bloggers use rating systems with their reviews, and conversely, a lot do not.  So I have two questions: Do you find them helpful?  I haven’t included any ratings so far on my reviews yet, but if you guys want them as a quick way of evaluating a book, I will seriously consider adding a system. What kind of rating system do you like?  Numbers, letters, symbols etc.?  Scratch that, I guess I have more than two questions.  I always include a Sexual Content section in my reviews.  I don’t… Read more »

I’m evil." —Spike Vampire Wars continues! As we explained earlier this week, we’ve decided that, structurally speaking, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries are all the same show. But which of those wicked, supersexy vamps is the best?… Read more »

Top 3 Blogs for Urban Fantasy Readers: #2 Fantasy Dreamer’s Ramblings

October 17, 2009 News 3

#2 Fantasy Dreamer’s Rambling   Donna from Fantasy Dreamer’s Ramblings     Well it is immediately obvious that Donna knows a thing or two about web design.  Her site is at once technically impressive while being extremely user-friendly.  Not that any of that matters, really.  I’d still read her site even if it looked like a thirteen year-old’s MySpace page, because with Donna, the interior is just as amazing as the exterior.  Donna in her own words: My favorite past times are reading, listening to music and watching movies, in this order. I have decided I would like to start… Read more »
