ATUF has just gotten Bigger! Meet Chris & Kate!

February 11, 2013 News 5

Remember back in December, when we posted this: That was when we started the hunt for a new blogger to join Julia, Kristina, and me here at All Things Urban Fantasy.  Since 2009 we’ve expanded our team every year, and we were due again.  The response was pretty fantastic, but unfortunately, we weren’t able to find one more person to join us.  We found two!  Both Chris (our first male reviewer) and Kate are big time Urban Fantasy lovers as well as fans of paranormal and speculative fiction in general.  Since we’re a picky bunch, we had them jump through… Read more »

Blogger/Reviewer Wanted: Love Paranormal Fiction? We Want You

Blogger/Reviewer Wanted: Love Paranormal Fiction? We Want You

November 23, 2012 News 9

Since launching in 2009, All Things Urban Fantasy has grown so far beyond what I ever could have imagined.  In 2010, Julia joined the team and brought a wealth of paranormal knowledge and enthusiasm for the genre that still puts me to shame.  In 2011, in a case of unrepentant nepotism, the meticulous and tireless Kristina (Julia’s sister-in-law) turned our duo into a trio. The three of us eat, breathe, and sleep paranormal books and pop culture, and together we’ve built this site into something we’re all proud of. We’ve gone through a number of different looks and styles, and recently made… Read more »

What can (and did) go wrong when switching from Blogger to WordPress

What can (and did) go wrong when switching from Blogger to WordPress

June 6, 2012 News 10

Well we’re finally in the clear and completely migrated over from Blogger to WordPress.  Am I glad we made the switch? Absolutely. Would I ever want to do it again? No way.  Just about every singe thing that could go wrong, did.  Seriously it was the the perfect storm of lets-screw-up-everything. Except, unlike in the movie, Mark Walhberg didn’t show up to make things better. Before I go through exactly what happened, I want to re-emphasize that everything has been fixed and addressed thanks to Super Jeni (her newly appointed title) aka The Blog Maven.  Jeni swooped in, worked her magic, and… Read more »

No posts on Sun while we finish/fix the transfer & an update

June 2, 2012 News 1

Just an FYI that our scheduled posts for Sunday and Monday will be moved to later this week while we address the import problems that we’re having.  All Things Urban Fantasy is a very big site with 3 years worth of posts and comments.  When I tried to do the import it only worked for a fraction of the posts and content.   I couldn’t figure out the problem. After scouring the web for help, the lovely Carolyn from Book City Chick (who also just switched to WP) reminded me that Emily The Blog Fairy started a design site (Emily… Read more »

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes…We’re Moving to WordPress

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes…We’re Moving to WordPress

May 2, 2012 News 21

After nearly three years with Blogger, we’re finally going to make the move to WordPress.  We’ve been frustrated for a long time with some of the limitations and lack of features that Blogger has.  Yes, it was great they they finally added threaded comments, but permalinks are still a glaring omission. Yes, Blogger is easy to use and relatively simple, but it lacks virtually endless customization potential and drool worthy plugins that WordPress boasts .  But we’ve gotten along fine for the past three years without all those bells and whistles, so why are we moving now? Because for going… Read more »

Why We DO NOT Accept Self-Published Titles

Why We DO NOT Accept Self-Published Titles

January 9, 2012 News 69

If you’ve ever submitted a book to us for review, you’ve seen our handy dandy Request A Review form.  We love that form.  It takes the guess work out for everyone and it makes it easy for us to zone right in on the important information that helps us decide if we want to accept a title or not (personally, the number one thing I want is a link to your book info, preferably Goodreads, but an author/publisher site is fine too).  We still get direct emails (especially if they are from publicists or 3rd party publicity companies), which… Read more »

Today is my last day at Tor.com Urban Fantasy

Today is my last day at Tor.com Urban Fantasy

December 2, 2011 News 11

I started an amazing new job back in January working for Tor.com as a blogger and social media head for their brand new dedicated Urban Fantasy Facebook and Twitter accounts, a position I was offered because of this blog.  I’ve had an unbelievably wonderful experience working for Tor/Macmillan this year, so I’m very sad to report that my position (as well as the other genre specific accounts) is going to be absorbed and managed in-house beginning Monday, December 5th.  What does this mean for the Tor Urban Fantasy Twitter and Facebook accounts?  I don’t know.  I hope they will continue… Read more »
