IRONHEART has everything I want in a short story: steaming hot romance from the get-go, an easy to follow if dramatic plot, a limited cast of characters that I could love to hear more about, and super powers don’t hurt either. Every since I read KARMA GIRL by Jennifer Estep, super hero romances have had a place in my heart, and IRONHEART has just been added to my favourite short story list.

I initially really liked the main characters in PHOENIX RISING, a short story in the Alpha Pack series. Unfortunately, I disliked almost everything else about the story: pacing, foreshadowing, the villain, the mythology, the stereotypical homophobia…

5 Bats! Review: The Reburialists, by J.C. Nelson

March 14, 2016 Review 0

I didn’t know I needed a fabulous Egyptian-inspired zombie killing novel in my life, but now that I have devoured THE REBURIALISTS, I will be recommending it to everyone at the top of my lungs. It’s equal parts clever and exciting, with a dash of horror and a fun love story.

The world is complicated enough without having to cut the tendons of your dead relatives and get their mouths sewn shut in case a Re-Animus decides to take it for a ride after you bury it. You’re better off cremating it, if you can afford it. Where zombies rising is common place, the BSI (Bureau of Special Investigations) takes care of putting the dead back where they belong, and Brynner Carson is their hero.

Review: Grave Attraction (Grave #4), by Lori Sjoberg

GRAVE ATTRACTION pulls you in with excellent characters, new and exciting mythology and a great dramatic finale. It managed to blend perfectly all the aspects I’ve come to expect from a book partway through a paranormal romance series, without being overly repetitive or confusing.

Review: Shadow’s End (Elder Races #9), by Thea Harrison

Review: Shadow’s End (Elder Races #9), by Thea Harrison

December 8, 2015 Review 3

Thea Harrison always manages to write big characters; it’s not just that her characters are hundreds and thousands of years old, but they have such a depth of emotion that you fall in love with them all. I’m not sure how she manages to do it every time, but every book in the Elder Races series is a gem, even the novellas.

5Bat! Review: Dragon On Top (Dragon Kin #0.4), by G.A. Aiken

5Bat! Review: Dragon On Top (Dragon Kin #0.4), by G.A. Aiken

October 29, 2015 Review 1

DRAGON ON TOP was the perfect blend of fun and sexy, with tons of new mythology and interesting insights into the series; I adored it!

The main Dragon Kin storyline takes place a few hundred years (at least) after the events of DRAGON ON TOP, which is great since the story has gotten a bit heavy in the last books and it’s fabulous to read about the Southlands without the baggage.
