You’ve just been thrown from a cliff into a river, your hands and feet are tied and you smashed your head on a rock. You’d be a bit snippy too, even with the nice (and nice-looking) fella who just dove in and saved you. Especially when you realise you don’t remember your name.

For a book with good writing and a distinct voice, REALM FM was a terrible disappointment. With a finale that rendered most of the characters useless, I was left wondering why a book that started out so fun soured so badly.

DEAD ON ARRIVAL sells itself as a zombie/medical thriller, but comes across as an almost-right-wing preachy cautionary tale about the dangers of technology. I thought the book was headed in FEED or THE AFFINITIES territory, but I was sorely disappointed in this near-future scifi novel.

With bold art and a a mystery that is slowly revealed, ELSEWHERE VOLUME 1, the story of what really happened to Amelia Earhart. Unfortunately it fails to set itself apart from the thousand of other stories which explore new worlds. ELSEWHERE doesn’t quite work for me.

Release Day Review: The Texas Shifter’s Mate, by Karen Whiddon

With so much focus on the underwater characters, it’s disappointing that THE TEXAS SHIFTER’S MATE didn’t try to capitalize on the originality of its premise. This book should have had the word mermaid in the title. Zach and Shayla are torn between land and sea for most of the book, which makes their HEA that much more satisfying.

Novellas are the perfect medium for Christmas themed stories: perfect to read in one sitting under a blanket on a gray day. That said, I think I would have gladly read a full length novel about Ryan and Winter and their roller-coaster week before Christmas. BITTERSWEET CHRISTMAS featured characters that got you invested quickly and kept you hooked until the end.

STAR HERO is a novella sequel to THE CHAMPION OF BARESH (re-released as STAR CHAMPION) which I adored, so I jumped at the opportunity to return to Baresh, the smelly, dirty mining town under a glass dome. Baresh is a world crawling with packs of wild dog-like creatures, mobs of feral children and overwhelming despair.

Gertrude is back and taking names! After yet another failed attempt to escape Fairyland, Gert is more pissed than ever in I HATE FAIRYLAND VOLUME 3: GOOD GIRL. She’s the perfect anti-hero, with glimmers of regret as she hacks and slashes her way through people who should clearly know better than to get between her and her goal.
