FIRE AND BONE is a refreshing addition to the Urban Fantasy genre. Greek and Roman mythology have been way over done, Norse mythology is starting to get to that point, but there are so few stories about Celtic mythology out there. FIRE AND BONE does a great job weaving Celtic mythos into an excellent story.

I’ve got a lot of mixed feelings about NEMO RISING. I enjoyed the whole story, but when I sat down to write this review and really started thinking about it, I realized that I gave the book too much slack because of my love of 20,000 LEAGUES. If NEMO RISING wasn’t about Captain Nemo and the Nautilus, but about some other random submarine post Civil War I would not have liked it anywhere near as much.
I hate writing one bat reviews, especially on a book I wanted to like so much, but A SPOONFUL OF MAGIC fell completely flat for me.
First Watch is an awesome book! I’ve read a lot of steampunk police procedural, quite a few of them I’ve reviewed here. I’ve enjoyed all of them, but they’ve always been a little lacking. First Watch is exactly the book I’ve always hoped the others would be. Let me clarify, First Watch is fantasy not steampunk, but I guess it was the fantasy angle I’d been hoping for in all the others.
The Schooled in Magic series has fast become one of my favorite series of the year. At some point, I’ll have to go back and relisten to them so that I can get a review up for each book. I just finished the seventh book in the series, TRIAL BY FIRE. A lot of series start to lose steam by the fifth book or so, that is not the case with Schooled in Magic. TRIAL BY FIRE continues the series perfectly.
The Federal Witch series has been on my list to read since it came out. It was on my reading list for a long time, and then it came out in audiobook form, so I got even more excited. I ended up purchasing each book as they came out on audio. I finally got caught up on what I’d been working through, so I decided to pick up the Federal Witch series. Instead of double checking, I downloaded the MAGICAL PROBI, assuming it was the first book. It wasn’t, but I still loved it and didn’t have any problem keeping up.
With a name like COLT HARPER – ESTEEMED VAMPIRE CAT, I figured the book was going to be completely horrible or absolutely amazing. So which one did it end up being? It was somewhere in the middle. I ended up loving the ESTEEMED VAMPIRE CAT, but it did take some time to get there.
BORROWED SOULS started out really strong! Promising characters were surrounded in a richly developed world with an awesome magic system… That’s all there ever was though. I wanted to love this book, but the great start fell flat as nothing happened throughout the rest of BORROWED SOULS.
I’m not certain why I picked up FIRST YEAR. I pick up YA books a lot less often these days, and even less so if they’re about kids going to school. I’m glad I made an exception for The Black Mage series though because it is amazing.
If you follow my reviews you know how much I love my magic systems. That’s the reason I love reading new urban fantasy series, because each one, or at least the good ones, have a new unique magic system to explore. THRONE TO THE WOLVES attracted me because of the nerdiness of the main character. I kept reading because of the awesome magic system.
