Early Review: Resist (Breathe #2) by Sarah Crossan

Early Review: Resist (Breathe #2) by Sarah Crossan

October 4, 2013 Review 0

The final book in Sarah Crossan’s Breathe duology ends with more than a few gasps and even more POVs. Quinn, Bea, and Alina are once again the protagonists, and joining them is Ronan. The multiple POVs worked in BREATHE since the group was together for most of the book, but in RESIST, not so much.

Release Day Review: Conjured by Sarah Beth Durst

Release Day Review: Conjured by Sarah Beth Durst

September 3, 2013 Review 0

There is always a challenge when it comes to characters who suffer from amnesia. It can feel like the reader is just as confused as they are. In CONJURED, Sarah Beth Durst handles this conundrum better than most by creating a hazy but still intriguing reality for her short-term memory challenged protagonist with surprising bursts of information well paced throughout the book. Oh and the literally magical kisses didn’t hurt.

Early Review: The Liberator (Dante Walker #2) by Victoria Scott

August 23, 2013 Review 0

Dante Walker is back with swagger for days. What is it about this cocky, brash, reformed player that makes me crave more and more of him? Or did I just answer my own question? In THE LIBERATOR, he’s everything I remember and a whole lot of stuff I thought I’d imagined in this follow up to Victoria Scott’s THE COLLECTOR.

Early Review: Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis

Early Review: Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis

August 23, 2013 Review 4

NOT A DROP TO DRINK is a grim, startling portrayal of survival in a post apocalyptic world where water has become the rarest resource on the planet. Lynn and her mother endure daily struggles to defend and safeguard the pond that ensures their survival. They fend off ravenous coyotes, packs of merciless marauders, and the endless cycle of natural forces that attack them. It’s essentially a post apocalyptic version of Little House on the Prairie and it’s riveting.

Review: Infinityglass (Hourglass #3) by Myra McEntire

Review: Infinityglass (Hourglass #3) by Myra McEntire

August 17, 2013 Review 3

Most YA series follow the same protagonist throughout the series, or they expand to include additional POVs. The Hourglass series has featured different protagonists for each book with increasingly minor cameos by the preceding protagonists. Whereas Emerson completely captivated in HOURGLASS, and to a lesser degree Kaleb in TIMEPIECE, neither Hallie nor Dune were compelling enough to finish this series on a high note in INFINITYGLASS.

Early Review: Darker Days (The Darker Agency #1) by Jus Accardo

August 16, 2013 Review 0

The best moments of DARKER DAYS, the first book in Jus Accardo’s The Darker Agency, are like an early episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with snappy one-liners, balancing supernatural smackdowns with homework, and impossible romance. The weaker moments, however, are a little more prevalent and reveal Jessie’s grating immaturity and the worst case of insta-love I’ve read all year.

Early Review: Quick Fix (In a Fix #2) by Linda Grimes

August 16, 2013 Review 3

Readers who are looking for a change of pace from the numerous hardcore and gritty urban fantasy series on the shelves will find a decidedly lighter, more fun series in Linda Grimes’ In a Fix books. Both IN A FIX and QUICK FIX are a bit wacky, a lot sexy, and very much in the vein of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series.
