The Unknown World is about to suffer change. For a thousand years, it has felt stifled by Michael's strictures, the rules they must follow on pain of death. As the first and most powerful vampire in existence, he has the power to keep the power struggles under the radar from the rest of humanity. Unfortunately that is changing.
Someone has found the serum to make intelligent nosferatu, a type of vampire little better than blood sucking beasts who can change the power struggle significantly. Michael thought this serum safely lost in the bombing of Japan in 1945.
The third effort to overturn Michael's decrees is about to take place, the problem is Michael is tired. After a thousand years of fighting and keeping the peace with his Family, the Unforsaken and the known supernaturals he is world weary and ready to sleep a final time.
He needs to find a way to bring another to take his place, someone with the will and desire to make a difference. He finds Bethany Anne.
The daughter of a General, she excels were others fear to go. She accepts the offer but doesn't realize she won't be transformed like any other vampire in history, even Michael. The problem? Even he didn't realize exactly how he was transformed and it completely throws the understanding of vampires and why they were created out the window.
When she wakes up, nothing is going to go like she thought. The UnkownWorld is going to change, it just doesn't know whose beat they will dance to, yet
The Kurtherian Gambit has been on my list for forever, but with so many books in the universe I’ve stayed away from it, until now. I wish I’d picked it up earlier. DEATH BECOMES HER is an amazing start to an amazing series, and don’t just take my word for it. The Kurtherian Gambit universe now contains over 100 books, which over a dozen authors have helped to write. You are now also forewarned, the universe is massive. However, this also represents an amazing feat. I can’t think of any non-movie/TV IP world, i.e. Star Wars, Star Trek, etc, that has so many different authors contributing to it, especially over such a short period of time.
DEATH BECOMES HER is action packed, and there’s almost no breathing room. This isn’t a book to read when you can’t give it your full attention, because you’ll get lost very quickly. Michael Anderle doesn’t believe in info dumps either, but he packs the key information about the world into his action packed scenes, providing yet another reason to give DEATH BECOMES HER your full attention.
DEATH BECOMES HER isn’t about a young paranormal learning about her abilities. Bethany Anne transforms and is instantly ready to kick butt and take names. Her character arc isn’t about learning her abilities, it’s about keeping her humanity and interacting with others.
DEATH BECOMES HER and the Kurtherian Gambit series is right up my ally when I’m looking for a fun action packed yarn. DEATH BECOMES HER might be for you if you enjoy seeing the good guys win, laughing with and at the characters, and constant action. It isn’t for everyone though. It has lots of rapidly switching POVs, lots of swearing, and I do mean lots, often one-sided battles, quite a few cliches and tropes, and most importantly you could never call this book literature. If none of those things scare you give DEATH BECOMES HER a try. I’ll also add that this was Michael’s debut novel, his writing improves as the series continues.
Notes on the Audiobook: Emily Beresford is amazing! She leaves narrator notes at the end of each book, and it's awesome to have a narrator love the story as a reader first. The love Emily has for this world clearly comes through in her production, and the Kurtherian Gambit wouldn't be the same without her.Series Titles:
- Kurtherian Gambit Timeline - With 21 books in the main storyline and over 100 in the whole universe I'm not going to type them all out. Sorry 🙂
