A dark force is rising in London…

Sebastian Montcalm knows freedom for the first time in his life, but it has come at the cost of his father’s soul. If he can learn to harness his uncontrollable sorcery then he might be able to save his father from a demon’s grip, but every move he makes leads to failure. The only thing that gives him hope is the innocent touch of Cleo Sinclair, the woman he was forced to marry. But will his darkness drown out her light?

He could be her destruction…

Cleo knew her father only ever loved her for the power of her visions, but when he bartered her away in marriage to a man she’d never met, she realized how little value she truly had. Her husband, Sebastian, was nothing more than a dark warmth in her bed, a stranger who refused to touch her. But together, the two tortured souls found friendship. And now, when he needs her the most, he won’t even look at her.

…Or she could be his salvation…

When Cleo receives a powerful vision of a darkness that threatens London, she knows she is the key to defeating it. Only by working together can she and Sebastian prevail. But is Sebastian the one who can end this prophetic doom, or the one bound to begin it?

Holy photoshop, Batman! No one holds a book like that. It’s distracting. And she looks like she doesn’t even know that the topless wonder is holding her. The colours are pretty though?

James Says

Photoshop is right. Cityscape and shirtless guy. That’s a no for me.

My wedding day to Shade arrives, and somebody invited Murphy’s Law along to the ceremony. But the chaos only extends from there. Camille and her Keraastar Knights are finally united and ready. Menolly and Roman are aligning the vampires. And the dragons have pledged their help as the final battle with Shadow Wing draws near. But best laid plans go awry. That necklace is way too big, or the knife is, or something. The two are competing for focus, and… why are those leaves so tiny? It looks like a full grown tree behind her, no?

James Says

I almost gave this one an okay, but the longer I looked at it the less I liked it. Like Kim said it’s just too busy.

Kim Says

Not super exciting or telling, but I do enjoy having the authors in focus like that. It could use a bit more magic in my opinion though.

James Says

I really like the contrast of the red and the white. But nothing about the cover makes me think paranormal or urban fantasy.

Though Winter Halo – the pharmaceutical company behind the evil experimentation on both children and adults – has been destroyed, the danger is far from over. Not only do seven children remain unaccounted for, but some of the vampires are now able walk in light.

The key to stopping the unthinkable lies in finding Ciara Dream, the last member of the trio behind the plot to give full light immunity to both the vampires and the Others. But Ciara, like Tiger herself, is a shapeshifter, able to take on any human form she desires.

To find her, Tiger will need to use every skill in her formidable arsenal, and even that might not be enough to save the city and the people she has started to care about.

Because the vampires are coming, and this time, the lights won’t stop them.

Kim Says

The red author font may show up better in person, but I do like the posing and the spooky ghost/vamps coming at her.

James Says

Very cool cover. I like the monsters coming at her. My only complaint is her holding two guns. You would never fire a rifle and a handgun at the same time.

I love this kind of book, and even I can’t get behind this icy blue mess. The only saving grace is that it’s more than just the polar bear’s head?

A half naked couple and a polar bear. I definitely won’t be picking up this book.

Kim Says

It’s the puppy! I’m not in love with the green mist, but Scarlett looks as down to earth as ever and I’m so glad we get a glimpse at her constant companion, the dog who turns into a demon if he’s too far from her magic-nullifying powers.

James Says

Olson’s covers are always decent. A little too photoshopped still, but at least they look nice. I really like the dog, it looks amazing!

October 1815: There is only one place Kendra Donovan wants to travel—back to her own time period in the twenty-first century. But since that’s not happening, she agrees instead to travel with her new guardian, the Duke of Aldridge, to one of his smaller estates in Lancashire. Their journey takes them through Yorkshire, a region whose breathtaking beauty masks a simmering violence brought on by the Industrial Revolution, which pits mill owner against worker.

When Kendra and the Duke encounter a band of Luddites on a lonely, fog-shrouded road, the Duke informs the authorities in the nearby village of East Dingleford that mischief may have been done at the local mill. However, it isn’t just mischief but murder that is discovered, when the body of the mill manager, Mr. Stone, is found brutally bludgeoned to death in his office.

The Constable is certain the radical-minded Luddites committed the murder. One look at the crime scene and Kendra knows they did not, prompting the Duke to shock the locals by volunteering their services to catch the real killer. Joined by lover Alec and Bow Street Runner Sam Kelly, Kendra must sort through the puzzle of Stone’s rather unsavory life, picking apart alibies and dissecting carefully created deceptions from a growing list of suspects.

As a special agent for the FBI, Kendra thought she’d encountered every kind of evil. But when another, even more vicious murder rocks East Dingleford, Kendra realizes that they’re dealing with a stone-cold killer—one who has a shocking secret that he will do anything to protect.

Kim Says

This series’ covers look like they just adjusted the colour saturation slightly. They’re impossible to tell apart. It also screams teen novel, but it turns out she’s an FBI agent??

James Says

I really dislike monochromatic covers. My eyes just slide right past them.

A REBELLIOUS OUTCAST

Cocky. Coy. Wolf shifter. Tabor is the hollow’s only half-breed, scorned and forbidden to use his powers. Constantly overlooked despite his strengths, Tabor believes Sasha is as shortsighted as the rest of the pack until she proves there’s more to her than a blindly obedient lapdog to the council.

A DUTIFUL PUREBLOOD

Spirited, stubborn, and deeply loyal, Sasha feels the pressure from her pack to claim another pureblood, yet no one is brazen enough to defy the elders and toy with her . . . no one besides a sexy, hotheaded half-breed.

AN ATTRACTION THAT THREATENS THE FUTURE OF THE PACK

Bewildered by the deceptively proud and surprisingly sensual Sasha, Tabor would risk everything to claim her. Despite her vanishing bloodline, Sasha can’t resist the charismatic half-breed even as predators threaten their pack and the elders pressure her to breed with a pureblood.

In a fantastical post-apocalyptic world, where only the strongest survive, sometimes trusting the heart is the bravest act of all.

*Wolf Hollow is an adult fantasy romance.

Kim Says

This is pretty generic, but it turns out that since he’s a half-breed, he’s not allowed to use his powers, and she is a purebreed and can. I thought this was perhaps the “same character twice”-thing you get on all these covers, but it’s not.

James Says

Half naked guy and a wolf. Also the background is a really washed out green, like it’s an old photo that’s been out in the sun for too long.

When the assassination of an ambassador brings old feuds to the fore again, Elisa and Connor must choose between love and family, between honor and obligation, before Chicago disappears forever.

Kim Says

She looks like a child. Is she supposed to look like a hyper- sexualized eleven year old? Yuck.

James Says

I agree she looks super young. Plus what’s up with that cityscape in the background, those buildings are in really straight lines.

Fall in love with the thrilling debut of a new paranormal romance series about the costs of heroism, the bonds of brotherhood, and the power of love.

Kim Says

It screams paranormal romance, so I guess that’s good. But then again, it looks like every other topless warrior on the shelf.

James Says

Half naked and half headless, with a mountainscape. I give up. I’m going to quit my day job and start making book covers. It’ll be so simple!

Kim Says

I hate it when the character is on the cover twice. I hate how the fade down the middle makes him look like he’s leaning into the picture. I even hate his haircut. This cover does nothing but inspire hate.

James Says

He has a shirt on, but look at those arms! His chest size doesn’t match those beefy arms.
