I like this one. This series does a good job of staying recognizable without all being the same. She looks badass.

Kristina Says

It has a nice magical feel. Not too keen on the lens flare over her shoulder

Legend claims
When Scotland fell to English rule
The Highland dragons took a vow:
Freedom at any price.

The war may be over, but so long as English magic controls the Highlands, not even a dragon laird can keep his clan safe. What Cathal MacAlasdair needs is a warrior fierce enough to risk everything, yet gifted enough to outwit an enemy more monster than man.

What he needs is Sophia.

Alchemist Sophia Metzger traveled to Loch Arach in search of knowledge. She never dreamed she’d learn to do battle, ride through the stars on the back of a dragon, or catch the eye of a Highland laird. But as her quest turns to sizzling chemistry and inescapable danger, she’ll soon discover the thrill of being caught in a dragon’s claws.

I mean, it’s a topless guy, but at least he looks serious and isn’t mysteriously removing his shirt for no reason? I like that we can see his face and he looks fierce.

Kristina Says

Why is part of his sword red? And why does it look like he is sheathing it into an invisible sheath on his back? Is he trying to scratch his back?

A Steamy Vampire Romance with Ultra Sexy Bite!

One sinful night, Kimberly White was bitten by a vampire.
It was the hottest, sexiest thing that had ever happened to her, and his breathtaking seduction changed her from an inexperienced, plain girl into a gorgeous, insatiable woman.

He was mysterious, as dark as the shadows, as wicked as an erotic fantasy.
Then he was gone, leaving her with a constant craving she hasn’t been able to chase away ever since that orgasmic encounter.

In search of more carnal satisfaction, Kim has been looking for her vampire on the sultry Vegas streets ever since, and when she finds him, all she wants is to feel his fangs in her once again.

But Rafe has secrets—and one of them is that he never bites the same human twice, no matter how addicted to Kim he is.
He’s also on the trail of another vampire who’s draining women, and Rafe has no time for attachments like the one he’s starting to hunger for with this human who’s intent on reaching the heights of ecstasy with him…

Dear Reader,
Thank you for picking up this steamy vampire tale! Hot for a Bite was previously published several years ago under a different title, The Ultimate Bite, for the Harlequin Blaze line. I wrote it under another pen name, “Crystal Green,” but since my “Chris Marie Green” nom de plume is already known for my Vampire Babylon series, I belatedly decided to indie publish under this pseudonym.

I hope you enjoy this hot paranormal vampire romance and continue with the sequel, Bound for a Bite!

Happy Hunting,
Chris Marie Green

They looked airbrushed to hell and back. Like a fake turkey you’d see in an thanksgiving commercial. Also, that’s a weird place for a bite.

Kristina Says

I actually like this one! It’s sexy and the red tint goes along with the whole vampire/blood thing.

In her bestselling Alpha and Omega series, Patricia Briggs “spins tales of werewolves, coyote shifters, and magic and, my, does she do it well” (USATODAY.com). Now mated werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham face a threat like no other–one that lurks too close to home…

They are the wild and the broken. The werewolves too damaged to live safely among their own kind. For their own good, they have been exiled to the outskirts of Aspen Creek, Montana. Close enough to the Marrok’s pack to have its support; far enough away to not cause any harm.

With their Alpha out of the country, Charles and Anna are on call when an SOS comes in from the fae mate of one such wildling. Heading into the mountainous wilderness, they interrupt the abduction of the wolf–but can’t stop blood from being shed. Now Charles and Anna must use their skills–his as enforcer, hers as peacemaker–to track down the attackers, reopening a painful chapter in the past that springs from the darkest magic of the witchborn…

I like the juxtaposition of the flowers and the thorns, of the pretty girl and the fierce wolf. The positioning of the two is a bit odd, but maybe they are lying in a bunch of bushes? Either way I love the colours and the balance in this cover.

Kristina Says

I love the artist who does these books but it looks like Anna is holding a giant wolf she just won at a fair. Or Charles has been stuffed and mounted into a wall surrounded by flowers. A horrible way to go for such a cool character.

Arlo Finch in the Valley of Fire by John August

The first book in a spellbinding fantasy adventure series so believable you may wonder if it’s happening in your own backyard.

As Arlo looked around, the walls of his room began to vanish, revealing a moonlit forest. Only his bed remained, and the frame of his window, through which he saw the girl. The world on her side of the glass was sparkling with silver and gold, like a palace made of autumn leaves.

She looked off to her right. Someone was coming. Her words came in an urgent whisper: “If I can see you, they can see you. You’re in danger. Be careful, Arlo Finch.”

Arlo Finch is a newcomer to Pine Mountain, Colorado, a tiny town of mystery and magic, but he’s already attracted the attention of dark and ancient forces. At first he thinks these increasingly strange and frightening occurrences are just part of being in Rangers, the mountain scouting troop where he learns how to harness the wild magic seeping in from the mysterious Long Woods. But soon Arlo finds himself at the center of a dangerous adventure, where he faces obstacles that test the foundations of the Ranger’s Vow: Loyalty, Bravery, Kindness, and Truth.

I love the badge shape being broken by the flaming tornado and the contrast in colours on this cover.

Interesting middle grade book. I’d be tempted to take a peak just to figure out what is going on in this cover.

Thrilling and atmospheric, this lyrically written YA debut about feuding magical families is perfect for readers of Maggie Stiefvater.

Every Christmas, Wren is chased through the woods near her isolated village by her family’s enemies—the Judges—and there’s nothing that she can do to stop it. Once her people, the Augurs, controlled a powerful magic. But now that power lies with the Judges, who are set on destroying her kind for good.

In a desperate bid to save her family, Wren takes a dangerous undercover assignment—as an intern to an influential Judge named Cassa Harkness. Cassa has spent her life researching a transformative spell, which could bring the war between the factions to its absolute end. Caught in a web of deceit, Wren must decide whether or not to gamble on the spell and seal the Augurs’ fate.

This captivating fantasy from an award-winning author is perfect for fans of The Raven Cycle and Wink Poppy Midnight.

It’s effective from a distance, but the bush isn’t busy enough for the bird shape to really work closer up. Doesn’t win me over.

Kristina Says

Super simple and clean. I love the wren shaped tree.

Take the hilarious, magic-infused world of Eva Ibbotson’s Which Witch, add the lovable feuding family from The Incredibles, and you’ll get Wizardmatch–funny, fantastical, action-packed, and totally heartwarming.

Eleven year old Lennie Mercado loves magic. She practices her invisibility powers all the time (she can now stay invisible for fifteen seconds!), and she dreams of the day that she can visit her grandfather, the Prime Wizard de Pomporromp, at his magical estate.

Now, Lennie has her chance. Poppop has decided to retire, and his grandchildren are coming from all over to compete in Wizardmatch. The winner inherits his title, his castle, and every single one of his unlimited magical powers. The losers get nothing. Lennie is desperate to win, but when Poppop creates a new rule to quelch any sibling rivalry, her thoughts turn from winning Wizardmatch to sabotaging it…even if it means betraying her family.

Comedic, touching, and page-turny, Wizardmatch is perfect for fans of Mr. Lemencello’s Library, The Gollywopper Games, and The Candymakers.

This is the kind of book I would have thrown myself at as a kid. There’s a ton of stuff going on and so many questions! Looks goofy in a good way.

Kristina Says

The book is called Wizardmatch. I love it based on the title alone. There are so many fun details. It took me a moment to figure out that the baby is not holding a staff with a rubber ducky. That would have made the cover even better!

From the author of “Dreamless,” “Beast Charming” and “Fairy Godmothers, Inc.”

What do you do when you’re one of the 12 Dancing Princesses but are really, really bad at dancing? For Thea, it was a choice between boredom and accidentally maiming her dance partners, and she wasn’t terribly fond of either option. But just as the nightly dances start to get interesting, their father hires someone to discover his daughters’ secrets and stop their nightly adventures. Can Thea and her sisters figure out how to keep the party going?

Kim Says

Like Kristina said, it’s missing the fantasy element, but it’s also missing a definite 2010s vibe. Seriously, this looks like a discount book you’d find at the dollar store.

Kristina Says

This doesn’t look like it’s fantasy at all. It looks like it could be some contemporary story about dancing. There’s no fantasy element to it.
