Now that the threat to Ever is imprisoned and gone for good, she can focus on what really matters: getting rid of the goblins living in her house as “protection” and getting back to work capturing rogue Fae for the Magical Enforcement and Containment Agency. Too bad fate doesn’t agree with her plans.

Ever’s mother is still missing, and Ever and her crew must find an ancient race long believed dead. As questions pile up and danger creeps closer, Ever can no longer deny the pull Dare has over her heart. And her body. As they forge a new bond, betrayal strikes, and it’s closer to home than either of them could have imagined.

Trouble stirs. Alliances fall. The only thing that binds them together is the trust they’ve put in each other and the emotions Ever refuses to name. Everything starts to crumble, and those Ever protects are no longer free from danger. Will she keep those she holds dear safe? Or will she be left to pick up the pieces?

Kim Says

That looks like coral, or fungus, or weird. Definitely not a crown, even with the word crown in the title.

Julia Says

Not a huge fan of the font, but there’s a crown and it certainly has an ethereal vibe.

Now that Ansa knows she is the destined queen of Kupari, she is desperate to find a permanent home for her people, the Kriegere, in the Kupari lands. But as the small band of warriors crosses into the foreign territory, Ansa loses her fragile grip on her newly-acquired—and violent—fire and ice magic and puts everyone, including her love Thyra, in danger.

Inside the walls of Kupari, Elli maintains the facade that she is the magical queen, with her secret—that she has no magic at all—on the brink of exposure every day. But as she tries to prepare the citizens to protect themselves from another invasion, unrest spreads as wielders like her beloved Oskar begin to lose control of their powers.

As Kupari grows increasingly unstable, with the land literally crumbling beneath their feet, and a common enemy once again threatening everything, these two young women on a collision course with destiny must find a way to save the realm and their people from total destruction.

In this epic conclusion to the Impostor Queen series, Sarah Fine’s sweeping tale of two fierce leaders imbued with unimaginable power and called to unthinkable sacrifice finally answers the question: who has the strength to be the True Queen?

Kim Says

I like the picture, the the title is terribly hard to read. Why did they have to break up the word Queen like that?

Julia Says

I am not a fan of how they arrange the text, not a fan at all.

With the human population growing and alien refugees pouring in from around the galaxy, Earth is becoming too overcrowded to sustain itself–and the solar system is filling up with the alien overflow. Advanced technology from the Alpha Centauri and Vatusan systems offers one possible solution. It’s time to explore new planets and see if any uninhabited ones can be claimed.
The President and First Lady, aka Jeff and Kitty Katt-Martini, aren’t supposed to be on this mission, but what looks like a snafu during a political photo op on the newly christened Distant Voyager spaceship turns out to be a call for help from a planet that might be Earth’s salvation…or its destruction.
The discovery of a world at the opposite end of the galaxy that seems like it could be a twin to Earth creates the usual issues for Kitty & Company. It also raises questions of Z’porrah and Ancient influence–not to mention cloning, the multiverse, and, scariest of all, whether or not the Black Hole Universe Police are starting to take too much of an interest in this particular universe.

Although these tend to look a bit similar to each other, I do love the poster rolling up in the corner. Brilliant little detail.

Assault rifle with sweater set, I’m all in.  I’ve always loved the glossy, comic book style of these covers.1

Purple eyes? Really? Is there anything more typically fantastical than purple eyes? And he looks bored/drunk. No thank you.

Julia Says

As as floating heads are concerned, I like the illustrated dragon more than transparent animal.  Still, there’s a lot going on and the purple makes this feel a little extra lurid.

In this thrilling and suspenseful fantasy, set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, Vicki DeVine and her lodger, the shapeshifter Aggie Crowe, stumble onto a dead body . . . and find themselves enmeshed in danger and dark secrets.

Human laws do not apply in the territory controlled by the Others–vampires, shapeshifters, and paranormal beings even more deadly. And this is a fact that humans should never, ever forget . . .

After her divorce, Vicki DeVine took over a rustic resort near Lake Silence, in a human town that is not human controlled. Towns like Vicki’s have no distance from the Others, the dominant predators that rule most of the land and all of the water throughout the world. And when a place has no boundaries, you never really know what’s out there watching you.

Vicki was hoping to find a new career and a new life. But when her lodger, Aggie Crowe–one of the shapeshifting Others–discovers a dead body, Vicki finds trouble instead. The detectives want to pin the man’s death on her, despite the evidence that nothing human could have killed the victim. As Vicki and her friends search for answers, things get dangerous–and it’ll take everything they have to stay alive.

Kim Says

Spooky and effective, looks a bit like a throwback 80’s V.C. Andrews cover with the yellow font.

Julia Says

Despite the common design elements, something about this cover model gives this a much more modern vibe.  Still, the departure makes sense as this book follows a new main character.

Kim Says

I like it, but the corset screams steampunk more than it does sci-fi. At least she has a cool gun?

Julia Says

The cover seems reasonably fantasy and steampunk-ish (nothing says genre like a tactical bustier), but the giant orange sticker really kills the mood.

But when she meets the smoldering General Silas Dravenko, they strike a bargain—save the country from its cursed illness, and he will return the kidnapped girl. She’s been raised never to trust a dragon, but never did making a deal with the devil feel so good…

But when a beautiful elf, long considered the enemy of the dragons, comes bursting into his world, Silas is awakened to passion and desire in a way he’s never felt before. Kim Says

Gosh darnit, the first book was so good, and these covers are so terribly terrible. It makes me want to grab the author and shake her. No topless guys, no trashy titles, come on man, you’re selling yourself short!

Julia Says

I can’t decide if its the overly long title or the title font itself that looks so bad, but I am happy to know that the “presenting to be mounted” chest out/ butt up pose looks as ridiculous on a man as it does on a woman.

Kim Says

I like that it’s not just a topless guy with the wolf eyes, the spooky lonely road adds mystery. Terrible title though.

Julia Says

Pretty eyes, and I like her figure walking into the horizon.  The title is terrible, though, both in content and appearance.

A mysterious murder in a dystopian future leads a novice investigator to question what she’s learned about the foundation of her population-controlled society.

Decades after economic and environmental collapse destroys much of civilization in the United States, the Coast Road region isn’t just surviving but thriving by some accounts, building something new on the ruins of what came before. A culture of population control has developed in which people, organized into households, must earn the children they bear by proving they can take care of them and are awarded symbolic banners to demonstrate this privilege. In the meantime, birth control is mandatory.  Enid of Haven is an Investigator, called on to mediate disputes and examine transgressions against the community. She’s young for the job and hasn’t yet handled a serious case. Now, though, a suspicious death requires her attention. The victim was an outcast, but might someone have taken dislike a step further and murdered him?  In a world defined by the disasters that happened a century before, the past is always present. But this investigation may reveal the cracks in Enid’s world and make her question what she really stands for.

Kim Says

This is a bit plain to me. Maybe the font on the title is off? I like the banner, but the final product isn’t as polished as I would like.

This is an odd cover, the color is aggressive and the image looks overexposed.
