Interview with a Vampire

Hello, Logan, and thanks so much for joining us today!

Hey, howrya, and thank you for having me.

Q. Tell us a little about yourself and your transformation. How did it feel to wake up one day and realize you were a vampire?

A. In all honesty it’s not something I talk about very often, but for you I’ll make the exception . I was dying of cholera on a prison hulk in the nineteenth century when an ancient demon took a shine to me–even dying I was quite the looker, you can hardly blame her on that count. She turned me there and then, but it wasn’t until later when I met her other ‘pets’ I realized exactly what I’d become. I was horrified. It wasn’t a life I’d ever have chosen for myself.

Q. Before you were turned, what dreams did you have for the future? Did they change?

A. I descended from a long line of Romani folk in Ireland, but I wasn’t happy. I wanted to train as a homeopathic doctor, put my healing talents to good use. That’s how I ended up in London. I was looking for a homeopath willing to train me as an apprentice. My dream didn’t change even after I became a vampire. In a way, it was a blessing as my gift became a thousand times more powerful. I could heal cuts and broken bones. I opened a clinic in Lima for a time. Helping the poor. Now of course I’m a fully qualified homeopathic doctor.

Q. Have you met any werewolves? Are any other creatures of lore real?

A. Werewolves? Are you crazy? That stuff is pure fantasy. I’ve met plenty of witches though, a few warlocks. My mother and grandmother descended from a long line of healers. Back in the day folk often accused them of witchcraft. I suppose in a way they weren’t far wrong. They would cast spells and make potions. Travelling around meant they avoided detection.

Q. What’s most challenging about being a vampire?

A. Never being able to befriend a woman without her wanting to sleep with me. Seriously, sometimes I just want a nice chat and there they are, diving for my belt buckle . Women aside, living forever can be draining. I watch the same things happen over and over–politics, religion, life, death, so it can get a little repetitive. Things are easier now that the world knows about us though. Before that we constantly had to move around. Relationships can also be difficult. When the fangs came out things quite often get awkward. Luckily if they go completely mental a good glamour does the trick.

Q. Who is your biggest celebrity crush?

A. I can’t answer that. A certain feisty young woman whose name begins with an ‘s’ and ends in an ‘r’ would never let me hear the last of it. Besides, I’m taken. I only have eyes for one lady now. But if I did have to choose, I’d probably go with Vivien Leigh. She was a real looker back in the day.

Q. As a vampire, is it hard to find a dentist?

A. Ha ha! Very funny. Fortunately, Vampires heal fast. We never suffer from tooth decay. I could eat twenty Hershey bars a day if I chose. I don’t though. Silver wouldn’t allow it.

Q. What do you fear?

A. Aside from ancient demons, I fear anything happening to Silver. Also, a sharp blade swinging at my neck wouldn’t exactly be welcome.

Q. Read any good books lately?

A. The Kama Sutra. Silver’s desperate to try out all sixty-four positions before she hits the big three o. I’m kidding. Christ, she’ll kill me when she reads this. Okay, so, this will do nothing for my street cred, but I’m a big fan of Terry Pratchett.

Q. What do vampires find sexy?

A. Well, like mortals we all have different tastes. For me, there’s nothing sexier than a woman comfortable in her own skin. I’ve known ladies who are five hundred years old and still insecure about their looks. Let it go, ladies, you’re all beautiful in your own unique way.

Q. What’s the best thing about being a vampire?

A. Living long enough that I was able to find my perfect match. That and never having to contemplate buying a packet of Just for Men.

Q. Who are some of the amazing people you’ve met in your long life?

A. I met that fat fella once, the one with the cigar. Winston Churchill. He was a top bloke, a fine craic. I also met Katharine Hepburn. She was one classy lady. I made a pass at her but she was obsessed with some married fella named Tracey.

Q. Have you ever done anything crazy just because you could?

A. I once took a date for a picnic on top of the empire state building. Not the viewing gallery, the bit near the spike. It didn’t seem to impress her much though. She screamed the whole way up.

Q. What’s the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?

A. I don’t embarrass easily, but once I met Scandinavian royalty with my fly unzipped. Thankfully, I’ve nothing to be ashamed of in that department .

Q. If you had one piece of advice for mortals, what would it be?

A. No one gets out alive. Stop stressing and start enjoying yourselves. Also, if you’re single, why not give V-Date a go? We’re a sexy bunch.
