The Hidden Legacy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews continues as Nevada and Rogan navigate a world where magic is the norm…and their relationship burns hot
Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she's used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.
Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …
With the long wait for WHITE HOT to be released, I was a little concerned that my expectations had gotten a bit too high. Luckily, WHITE HOT met and exceeded those expectations, leaving me ready to re-read as soon as I was finished. WHITE HOT is nearly perfect paranormal romance: excellent world building coupled with three-dimensional characters, and a great plot line to top it off.
WHITE HOT starts a few months after BURN FOR ME leaves off, and it's super easy to slip back into Nevada's world, despite the length of time since I read the first book (I did read it three times though, so, take that with a grain of salt). Within 27 pages (I checked), I was hooked, and I pretty much didn't let the book leave my side for day while I read it. This is a book that immediately throws the characters into increasingly crazier situations and easily keeps the reader interested in their problems.
As the middle book in the trilogy, there's a lot of development. The reader learns more about Nevada's magic, and about her siblings' and cousins' magic. Some characters we didn't get to know as well in BURN FOR ME play larger roles and there is action aplenty. However, all of that drama never detracts from the main plot line of Nevada and Connor. Nevada and Connor's interactions are what seals the deal on this book. Everything else could be mediocre (spoiler alert: it's not) and their back and forth would have me riveted to the page regardless.
There are so many moments in this book that had me laughing, or tensely wondering what would happen next, or shocked - in any other book I feel like it would almost be too much, but WHITE HOT has an excellent balance between the humor and the tension and does give the reader time to breathe between fight scenes.
Honestly, I cannot recommend the Hidden Legacy trilogy enough. If you haven't already read BURN FOR ME, do yourself a favor and get it right now, so you can enjoy the wonder that is WHITE HOT. The only downside is it is only a trilogy, but the third book, WILDFIRE, is coming out in July, so not long to wait. I know I'm excited!
