So regal, so proud, so up to his nuts in icy water.

Kristina Says

Minus points for the lowercase “I”. Don’t care if its stylized. He looks like he has a bit of a love handle happening there due to the weird water thing there. Is he supposed to be nude? Am I supposed to be having vapors over that? I’m not. Put on some pants dude, you’re in the ocean. Hungry fish live there….

I like this shade of green, but something about his hand and his hip positioning screams “dutch oven” to me…

He’s really not wearing pants probably… And yay for a cover model having a reason to be shirtless!

A Murder in Time (Kendra Do...

Click to display description

Former FBI agent Kendra Donovan’s attempts to return to the twenty-first century have failed, leaving her stuck at Aldridge Castle in 1815. And her problems have just begun: in London, the Duke of Aldridge’s nephew Alec—Kendra’s confidante and lover—has come under suspicion for murdering his former mistress, Lady Dover, who was found viciously stabbed with a stiletto, her face carved up in a bizarre and brutal way.

Lady Dover had plenty of secrets, and her past wasn’t quite what she’d made it out to be. Nor is it entirely in the past—which becomes frighteningly clear when a crime lord emerges from London’s seamy underbelly to threaten Alec. Joining forces with Bow Street Runner Sam Kelly, Kendra must navigate the treacherous nineteenth century while she picks through the strands of Lady Dover’s life.

As the noose tightens around Alec’s neck, Kendra will do anything to save him, including following every twist and turn through London’s glittering ballrooms, where deception is the norm—and any attempt to uncover the truth will get someone killed.

I like the creamy colors, but that cloud is too short to account for where her legs went.  I feel like her feet should be dangling above that castle.

Kristina Says

I love the airiness and dreamlike feeling this cover gives off. It didn’t really need the upside down NYC cityscape though.

A thrilling new urban fantasy filled with magic and motorcycle gangs from Jennifer Rush, author of the Altered saga–perfect for fans of Beautiful Creatures.

Eighteen-year-old Jemmie Carmichael has grown up surrounded by magic in the quiet town of Hawthorne, New York. In her world, magic users are called “kindled,” and Jemmie would count herself among them if only she could cast a simple spell without completely falling apart. It doesn’t help that she was also recently snubbed by Crowe, the dangerous and enigmatic leader of the Black Devils kindled motorcycle gang and the unofficial head of their turf.

When the entire kindled community rolls into Hawthorne for an annual festival, a rumor begins spreading that someone is practicing forbidden magic. Then people start to go missing. With threats closing in from every side, no one can be trusted. Jemmie and Crowe will have to put aside their tumultuous history to find their loved ones, and the only thing that might save them is the very flaw that keeps Jemmie from fully harnessing her magic. For all her years of feeling useless, Jemmie may just be the most powerful kindled of all.

This may be due to over exposure, but if I see motorcyle club aesthetic I immediately think romance, not urban fantasy.

Kristina Says

Before reading the description I thought the cover was some sort of motorcycle gang logo. I like the tagline too.

Sharon Cameron returns to the rich world of The Forgetting with a companion novel as thrilling and intricately crafted as the first.

Samara doesn’t forget. And she isn’t the only one. Safe underground in the city of New Canaan, she lives in a privileged world free from the Forgetting. Yet she wonders if she really is free, with the memories that plague her and secrets that surround her. Samara is determined to unearth the answers, even if she must escape to the old, cursed city of Canaan to find them.

Someone else is on their way to Canaan too . . . a spaceship from Earth is heading toward the planet, like a figment of the city’s forgotten past. Beck is traveling with his parents, researchers tasked with finding the abandoned settlement effort. When Beck is stranded without communication, he will find more in Canaan than he was ever trained for. What will happen when worlds and memories, beliefs — and truths — collide?

This pulse-pounding, evocative companion to Cameron’s highly acclaimed The Forgetting explores the truth and loss that lie within human memory, and the bonds that hold us together.

Worst. Road Trip. Ever.

Escaping with Reid Wentworth should have been fun, but how can I enjoy it when I just (accidentally) killed someone, my mom and brother are in danger, and the Consortium is trying to enslave humanity? (Yeah, they aren’t fooling around.) So feeling something for Reid Wentworth was not part of the plan. Trying to help unite the Resistance against the Consortium means I can’t be distracted by hot boys.

The Resistance secret hideout isn’t exactly the rebel base of my dreams. A traitor there wants me dead, but we have no idea who it is. And with both the Resistance and the Consortium trying to control me, the only one I can trust is Reid. If we’re going to have any chance of protecting my family, controlling my unstable powers, and surviving the clash between the Oculi factions, I’m going to have to catch this traitor. By using myself as bait.

I like her outfit, her hair pops without looking fake, but still my overall reaction is “meh”.

Kristina Says

It’s decent. The only thing denoting that this is fantasy of any sort is the lightning and that’s even not that great. The whites of her eyes look flesh toned too.

Galactic Hot Dogs 1: Cosmoe...

Cosmoe, Princess Dagger, Humphree, and the gang are back for another wild space adventure in the second hilarious illustrated novel of the Galactic Hot Dogs series, which Lincoln Peirce calls an “an insanely entertaining, eye-popping adventure.”

What could go better with wieners than a flying space circus? Nothing! Which is why Humphree’s all jazzed up at the chance to sell Galactic Hot Dogs as the official food of Crostini’s Cosmic Carnival and Wonder Circus train. Cosmoe’s not entirely convinced—but once his skills as a monster tamer are unveiled, the deal is done and the Neon Wiener is officially hooked onto the train.

Only things aren’t quite what they seem at this circus, and pretty soon Cosmoe realizes he and his buddies are in more danger than ever. To get to the bottom of it all, they have to travel somewhere pretty familiar, providing a glimpse at last into Cosmoe’s past and how he ended up aboard the Wiener in the first place.

Julia Says

Cute, very fun for kids.  We’ll just gloss over the phallic nature of whatever he’s holding, no need to start a whole schwartz thing.

It’s a cute cartoon. I am disturbed by the bendy sword-bat the boy is holding. I think that is a bendy sword-bat? I hope…
