Her love breaks his curse. But his love spells her death.

A simple but forgotten truth: Where harbingers of death appear, the morgues will soon be full.

Angie Dovage can tell the mysterious new boy next door is more than he appears, but she can’t imagine his presence signals a tragedy that will devastate her small town. But when a grotesque, otherworldly man tries to attack her and Reece comes to her rescue, everything changes.

Any minute, chaos could rain down on her town, on her family, on everyone she cares about. But that’s only half as dangerous as falling in love with a harbinger of death.

This one is really cool, and I like it a lot. The colors are cool, the image is striking without being too much and the title is easy to read. Plus it doesn’t look like every other book coming out of this publisher.

Julia Says

I’m a sucker for black birds, and this is a handsome fellow.  The painted overlay that suggests wings is a little out of perspective, but I love his bright little smile.

Ruby thought she was the ordinary sister in the Love clan—that is, until her dead brother searches her out and begs for her help. Along with him come others—not just other dead, but demons, too—and they are terrifying enough to alarm even someone with Ruby’s eerie family history. She turns to John Cassian, a successful-but-sketchy businessman who seems to know more about demons than is good for either of them. He agrees to help her save her brother’s soul, but Ruby knows he has motives of his own. He is too compelling, too sensual to resist, but even as he seduces Ruby’s body, she fears the consequences of trusting him. John is seeking revenge, but who or what has he targeted? And how can she love a man who frightens even the stuff of nightmares?

Definitely not clearly a paranormal romance cover, and boring to boot. Looks like your typical contemporary romance.

Julia Says

This looks like magazine cut outs decoupaged in the back of my trapper keeper, but I never would have picked people this boring.

Putting aside the fact that I definitely want to read this one, this cover looks a little childish, and the image is almost overly simplistic.

Love this!

New York Times bestselling author Kimberly McCreight raises the stakes in the second book of the heart-pounding Outliers trilogy, a uniquely speculative story about secrets, betrayal, and a world where one small group of people are blessed—or cursed—with an incredible power.

Wylie may have escaped the camp in Maine, but she is far from safe. The best way for her to protect herself is to understand her ability, fast. But after spending a lifetime trying to ignore her own feelings, giving in to her ability to read other peoples’ emotions is as difficult as it is dangerous.

And Wylie isn’t the only one at risk. Ever since they returned home, Jasper has been spiraling, wracked with guilt over what happened to Cassie. After all they’ve been through together, Wylie and Jasper would do anything for each other, but she doesn’t know if their bond is strong enough to overcome demons from the past.

It is amid this uncertainty and fear that Wylie finds herself confronted with a choice. She was willing to do whatever it took to help Cassie, but is she prepared to go to the same extremes to help complete strangers . . . even if they are just like her?

I normally like some sort of image on my covers, but this one did a good job with just the font. I do like the flame at the top of the I, and I was able to easily picture the first book in the series, so they’re similar but also different enough that they don’t look nearly identical.

Julia Says

I generally don’t like black backgrounds, they make everything else seem flat and pasted on.  I like the burning match effect, but not enough to pull the whole cover together.

Meh, typical fantasy cover. The dragon creatures are cool looking, but otherwise it doesn’t really stand out.

Lovely high fantasy cover.
