Marketing manager Katherine "Kitty" Katt had just finished a day on jury duty. When she stepped out of the Pueblo Caliente courthouse, all she was thinking about was the work she had to get caught up on. Then her attention was caught by a fight between a couple that looked like it was about to turn ugly. But ugly didn't even begin to cover it when the "man" suddenly transformed into a huge, winged monster right out of a grade Z science fiction movie and went on a deadly killing spree. In hindsight, Kitty realized she probably should have panicked and run screaming the way everyone around her was doing. Instead she sprinted into action to take down the alien.
In the middle of all the screeching and the ensuing chaos, a hunk in an Armani suit suddenly appeared beside her, introduced himself as Jeff Martini with "the agency," and then insisted on leading her to a nearby limo to talk to his "boss." And that was how Kitty's new life among the aliens began...Touched by an Alien is the thrilling first installment of the Alien novels.
Though the Katherine “Kitty” Katt series is technically science fiction, it reads just like an urban fantasy novel. Just replace magic with technology and werewolves with aliens, while still keeping the same spunky female lead, and you've got TOUCHED BY AN ALIEN, the first book in the series.
While I really enjoy books with realistic characters, I love books with well written larger than life characters. Kitty is definitely a larger than life heroine. She seems to always come up with the solution even when the aliens studying the problem for generations haven’t, though not always in a timely fashion, and she can do some serious damage on a battlefield with little actually training. I know some people don’t like characters like that, so take that into account before picking this one up.
My main problem with this book is the relationship between Kitty and Jeff. I think they work well together, I’d just liked to see that developed more. One of the first things that Jeff says to Kitty is that he wants to marry her. He instantly falls for Kitty. Now it does take Kitty a little bit to truly fall for him, but I like to see relationships fleshed out a little more.
I’m a lover of both sci-fi and urban fantasy, so I really enjoyed how the Katherine “Kitty” Katt series combines some of the elements of both genres into TOUCHED BY AN ALIEN. Gini Koch has created a great world with a superb cast of characters. I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of the series and seeing what adventures Kitty has in store.
Notes on Audiobook: Romy Nordlinger did an amazing job narrating the book. I absolutely loved all of the voices, especially Katherine’s. However, the audiobook came out a year ago, and there isn’t any sign that the rest of the series will be transferred to audio.Series Titles:
