Hi all, Faith Hunter here. (See writer waving. It’s a goofy flapping weave, not a princess wave…)
My world and my life have both changed—drastically—since the release of the last Jane Yellowrock book—BLACK ARTS. Yes, finally, I quit my day job. (Sounds of wild cheering, chewing of chocolate, and exuberant toasts.)
I worked in hospital labs for too many years to talk about, for the security of a regular paycheck and for the medical benefits. My Hubs is self-employed, always has been, and while he always said, “Who cares about health insurance, let’s both be self-employed,” I couldn’t do that. I’ve always been the practical one, needing the security of insurance and a paycheck instead of the irregular payments I’ve had as a writer for over 20 years.
But now, one of the good things came of the Affordable Care Act, is that people like me can buy health insurance (horribly expensive but at least I have it.) Without the day job, I can play more, spend more time with family, paddle more and yes, I can write more.
In fact, I sent in a proposal for a new series which was accepted by my publisher Penguin/ROC. The new trilogy will debut late in 2015, and yes—it’s set in the Jane Yellowrock world!
It’s a spinoff with both old and new characters and a new type of magical system. The main character is named Nell Nicholson Ingram, a dark, isolated character who has never been the poster child for submission, obedience, and compliance.
Not that I’m letting Jane go. NO WAY! However, now Jane and her pals won’t be alone, but will have a sister series, as I am planning to write 2 books a year, one in each series, along with the concomitant shorts and novellas along the way. Yeah. I can honestly say that I am psyched and terrified and so ready for the opportunities brought by this lifestyle change!
PS – DARK HEIR, with Jane and all her pals, will be out in early 2015.
New York Times bestselling author Faith Hunter writes dark urban fantasy and paranormal thrillers, including the Skinwalker series, featuring rogue-vampire hunter Jane Yellowrock, and the Rogue Mage series, a post-apocalyptic, alternate reality series, featuring Thorn St. Croix, a stone mage. When the Master of the city of New Orleans asks Jane to improve security for a future visit from a delegation of European vampires, she names an exorbitant price—and Leo is willing to pay. That’s because the European vamps want Leo’s territory, and he knows that he needs Jane to prevent a total bloodbath. Leo, however, doesn’t mention how this new job will change Jane’s life or the danger it will bring her and her team.
Jane has more to worry about than some greedy vampires. There’s a vicious creature stalking the streets of New Orleans, and its agenda seems to be ripping Leo and her to pieces. Now Jane just has to figure out how to kill something she can’t even see….
