Penton: The Secret Histories

by

Susannah Sandlin

If you’ve read any of the Penton Legacy series so far, you know that all the hot guys and their significant others have plenty of baggage in their past. But their futures have some challenges too. Here are a few teasers of what might be in store for them:

Cage Reynolds (hero of ALLEGIANCE, book four, out this week):

  • What we know: Cage was a psychiatrist in his human life, was turned vampire while serving with the British Army during World War II, came to Penton representing the UK vampire tribunal leader in order to see if the system could be replicated in England, went undercover with the bad guys and made a harrowing escape.
  • What might surprise you: How Cage was turned, or, more accurately, the circumstances. He wasn’t just a soldier but one of Churchill’s secret operatives. Let’s just say being turned vampire was probably the best thing that could’ve happened in his situation.
  • What might amuse you: Cage hasn’t driven since 1944, and modern cars kind of freak him out.

Aidan Murphy (hero of REDEMPTION, book one):

  • What we know: Aidan, turned during the Battle of Kinsale in 1600 Ireland, was a farmer in his human life. He tends to overthink things, but is honest and fair and good-hearted. He deserves the loyalty the vampires and humans of Penton have pledged to him.
  • What might surprise you: In Allegiance, Aidan will be pushed to his limits, and we’ll find out just how tough he can be if he has to.
  • What might amuse you: Aidan, who’s spent the first three books with beautiful shoulder-length chestnut-brown hair, is trying to look more businesslike. It’s not working for him.

Mirren Kincaid (hero of ABSOLUTION, book two):

  • What we know: In his human life, Mirren was a Scottish-born galloglass warrior, and still has his battle ax, his leather tunic, and his sword named Faolain. In the first three centuries of his vampire life, he was an assassin for the Tribunal and known as The Slayer.
  • What might surprise you: Something happens to Mirren in Allegiance that scares him. Really freaks him out in a big way. And if you know Mirren, the man doesn’t scare easily.
  • What might amuse you: Despite his artistic skills, Mirren’s handwriting is virtually illegible. People are having to get translations from his mate.

Will Ludlam (hero of OMEGA, book three):

  • What we know: Will is the only son of the series’ Big Bad Ugly, Matthias Ludlam, and was turned by his father in the 1960s when he was only 21 years old. He’s pretty on the outside and scarred on the inside, but his smarts and loyalty to Aidan are beyond question.
  • What might surprise you: Vampires heal anything, right? Not so much. Will was left after the events of Omega with a lasting injury that will impact what he will be able to do in the future.
  • What might amuse you: This is Will, right? The man is funny. He doesn’t even need an excuse.

So there you have it—a little sneak peek into the world of Allegiance. Which hint do you find most intriguing?

I read Allegiance Tuesday and still am very excited about it. It’s the best story so far in the Penton Legacy series. What surprised me, Robin. The shape shifter from Storm Force is just great in this story. Recommend this series whenever I can.

Congrats to Susannah on the newest release!! I’m so excited cuz I’m finally starting this series :) Ummm… I liked this ” Cage hasn’t driven since 1944, and modern cars kind of freak him out”… I know how he feels!!! Thanks for the fun post!

    • Susannah Sandlin

Thanks, Erin! Yes, Cage is pretty funny about the driving thing. It’s not a problem in his hometown of London but once he gets in rural Alabama, the man needs to drive!

  3. Ezinwanyi

I wish the author or someone had mentioned the tie in with Storm Force. I’ve had Storm Force but didn’t read it and I could tell I would have preferred the background info on Omega Force.

I loved the new direction and the addition of other supes. I wish the Melissa thing had been done differently or better. I’m looking forward to Nicks book…he’s next, right?

    • Susannah Sandlin

Reading STORM FORCE first gives you a little background on Robin and Nik, but not much–they’re the only tie to the Penton book. And yes, Nik’s book will be next!

  4. celeste

I love the cover and the fact that there are vampires very interesting meeting! thank you very much for giving us an opportunity of reading this book!

  5. ^miki

i was surprised to see the situation if Will the hint was intriguing because i didn’t imagine it was so dire and affecting him that much… i must say that i quite wait to see a excahnge between him and gadget^^ that will be funny for sure

    ^^ also Mirren hand writing was surprising after living so long we could have imagined he learned^^;;

    • Susannah Sandlin

LOL, Miki. Yes, I think seeing Gadget and Will together will be funny. They’ll either be competitive with each other or they’ll totally geek out and be instant BFFs. As for Mirren…well, other than his drawings, I doubt he’s done much writing. I know some artists with horrific handwriting! (I have nice handwriting and am a horrific artist, LOL.)

  6. Liz S

I will be waiting to see how Aiden handles his challenges.

    • Susannah Sandlin

You’re right, Liz. And while the next book will ostensibly be Nik’s, it will be Aidan’s as well. How he reacts will ultimately decide the fate of Penton.

  7. Karin Shaim

the fact that there are vampires! vampires are droolworthy!

    • Susannah Sandlin

Yes, Karin!! I still love them, fangs and all. Everytime I think I’m done with them someone comes along and twists the mythology around and makes them all sexy again!

    • Susannah Sandlin

Thanks, Sandy! I’m happy with the covers Montlake, my publisher, has developed for the series. I’m always anxious to see what cover guy they’ll think fits the character, and I think they’ve done a nice job so far!

  8. Jamie Martin

In the first three centuries of his vampire life, he was an assassin for the Tribunal and known as The Slayer.

  9. Mary Preston

Cage being one of Churchill’s secret operatives – love that.

  10. Rebe

I’m excited to see the characters from Storm Force in the new Penton book!

  11. Jess1

The hint about Cage being a special operative during WWII, sounds like stories to be told there.

  12. Mirlou

    The cover is so pretty.
I’m curious to know what happened to Mirren in Allegiance that scares him …

  13. Barbara Elness

I’m intrigued to learn the circumstances of How Cage was turned. I’m looking forward to reading Allegiance. :D

  14. Linda Townsend

I’m with another poster… While there’s a lot of interesting hints, I am dying to find out what scared Mirren! He doesn’t sound like someone who scares easily. Thanks for the giveaway!
