Character Interview

Caire Ashgrove

Good morning, everybody! Thanks for letting me stop by today and share a little about Before the Storm, my brand new urban fantasy. I managed to track down Halle—the heroine—and ask her a few personal questions. She treated me with honest answers. Amazing since she usually keeps herself pretty closed off. Anyway, here’s what our conversation revealed:

Describe yourself—what is your worst and best quality?

My best and worst quality? I don’t really know. But I’m pretty sure Kale would say they’re the same thing and that I’m stubborn. I refuse to give up. Sometimes to my benefit. Sometimes to my detriment.

What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?

No—I can’t say there is anything I wish people knew about me. I’m pretty happy not letting people in. It’s better that way. At least for me. I like keeping to myself, and I really don’t like sharing my secrets.

What is your biggest secret something no one knows about?

Actually, it’s one I just stumbled into. There’s only a few people who know, and I’ve been warned to keep who I tell to a minimum. I’m already being hunted by a necromantic archlich, and there’s no telling how many of his minions might be listening to this interview. Sorry, that’s all I can say.

What are you most afraid of?

Being alone, though I’ve spent most my life that way.

What do you want more than anything?

My uncle dead.

What is your relationship status?

I’m…involved. At least my heart is.

How would you describe your sense of fashion?

Life on the streets doesn’t really afford one a sense of fashion. I wear what gets me around and doesn’t draw attention. Often boots, jeans, and completely casual clothes. Spring has supplemented my wardrobe, but still nothing exciting to speak of.

How much of a rebel are you?

Seriously? I’ve already killed one man and I’m itching to make it two. I think that’s a bit obvious.

What do you considered to be your greatest achievement?

The night I managed to will a tornado into existence and then bend it precisely where I wanted it to go.

What is your idea of happiness?

Miami Beach. Or wait… Kale said something about a place where the Orcas calved. That would top Miami.

What is your most treasured possession?

My book. The one the legendary windwalker, Rafini, wrote.

What is your most marked characteristic?

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Hm. Loyalty. He doesn’t have to be drop-dead gorgeous if he’s willing to stand by me no matter what.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Honesty. The kind a man would give, not the nicely-worded, polite version.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

Oh that’s easy! I would love to be able to control my powers. Unfortunately, we’re a little out of sync. And sometimes, I wish I were more like my sister physically. She’s petite and graceful while I’m…not.

What is your motto?

If you want something badly enough, no risk is too great.

Well, I should let you get back to training, Halle. Thanks for sitting down with me and shedding light on some things that had been bugging me. I hope we’ll talk again soon.

There you have it—a deeper look at Halle Rhoads. If you want to know more, Before the Storm is on an introductory special of only .99 cents. It’s the perfect price to give it a try!

Available on April 21, 2014 by Untamed Spirit

Halle Rhoads has a terrifying gift–she can kill with the fury of the storm.

She should have known that kind of power wouldn’t go unnoticed. Thrust into a world full of dark magic with a handsome stranger who claims he can teach her, she struggles to master her abilities and stumbles onto a dangerous truth. She’s a windwalker, the chosen vessel of the ancient dragons who once ruled the world. Many will stop at nothing to possess the power in her blood, should they discover her secret. With necromancers hunting her and Halle’s closest allies guarding secrets, mastering her magic becomes a matter of necessity.

But accepting her destiny is altogether different. For doing so means she must sacrifice everything.
