One is Silver and the other Gold… BFFs

Thank you to All Things Urban Fantasy for having my on today!

I am celebrating the release of my fun, paranormal romance, Luck of the Dragon. LotD is the first book in the Las Vegas Dragons series. Alec, my uber hot, Joe Manganiello-looking hero owns a ritzy Las Vegas casino, which provides a hidden-in-plain-sight sanctuary for his dragon-shifting people. His only problem is that Lucy, the sexy gem appraiser trying to steal from him, just might be his mate. Hot shenanigans ensue!

Did you know it was Best Friend’s Day in June? Since I missed it, and since I just returned from my annual kick-a$$ weekend with my five best-ies from high school, I thought I would talk a little about friends, particularly long-term friends.

You learn a lot about a person in twenty years. You learn what they love. What they hate. You know their blind spots and they know yours. My girlfriends and I come from all economic backgrounds, we are ethnically diverse, and we’ve settled in both metropolises and the hinterlands. Some of us are stylish, some of us not-so-much (ME). Some of us are politically conservative, and some us would happily march for the right liberal cause. On the surface, our conflicting bumper stickers and Louis Vuitton vs Target purses might make you think we only had our XX chromosomes in common. But, that would be so wrong.

Our annual get-together agenda differs very little from year to year. We drink a TON of wine and savor a few forbidden nicotine delivery sticks. We get a pedicure, and then we talk. We do lots and lots of talking.

Here is a smattering of our topics this year: sex (this always makes the list), husbands and kids, some documentary called The Race to Nowhere, Sheryl Sandberg’s book, jobs and colleagues, the airport celebrity mags, whether Jen Aniston is pregnant or not (this always makes the list too), some kid’s amazing bar mitzvah, Sisterland, Shazam, Geo Cache, and bidets. The discussion points vary from year to year, but I always return to my regular life feeling grateful and re-calibrated.

We have not always been so close. We drifted apart during the college and courtship years, only to reconnect at my wedding in 1997. Then we lost Laura. She was nine months pregnant and had a sudden brain aneurism. Her baby boy lived, but she did not. We were young mothers. Tired. Stressed. Strapped down by jobs, diapers, nap schedules, and laundry. But, after Laura died, we set up a weekend for an annual retreat, and we stuck to it.

Not long ago, we all attended my last-girlfriend-to-get-married’s wedding. We had long hoped for this paragon-of-partner virtue, who finally managed to corral Gretchen to the alter. The two of them were radiant at the front of the Catholic Church, while sunbeams lit aged stain glass windows, and a Gregorian choir sang. My girlfriends and I sat on the edge of our pew, in our pretty clothes, wiping away our snot with Kleenexes.

I turned over the wedding program and saw that Gretchen had listed us as her honorary bridesmaids:

Susannah Andrews Scott
Avani Gupta Ganesh… she had even included Laura.

My heart flopped in my chest and I squeezed my lips shut around tearful sounds. The years fluttered at my ears, and in that moment, it was more than just our names listed in a row. It was the culmination of the women that we had become, individually, and one for another. All of us lined-up on paper, just as we were in the pew, hip to hip, and heart to heart.

SUSANNAH SCOTT lives in the Missouri Ozarks and is the lone female in a very loud household of males ranging in age from 4 to 40. While she jokes that the extreme levels of testosterone inspired her to write romance, it is really the love of creating an excellent story, and the occasional dreams of twenty-foot dragons, that wake her and send her to the laptop before the chaos of daily life ensues.

Description:

Luciana de Luca has a PhD in sass and gemology—and a problem. Her twin brother’s gambling debts have gotten out of hand, and a mob enforcer is blackmailing her to rob the latest, greatest mega-casino on the Strip. Although Lucy has worked her whole life to get away from her family’s grifter past, to save her brother, she dons three-inch heels and a sluts-r-us dress and struts into Alec’s Gerald’s casino, determined to put her long-forgotten thieving ways to the test again.

Alec Gerald, a shape-shifting dragon, has built the Crown Jewel casino to provide sanctuary for his people amongst the flash and awe of Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the sexy little thief trying to rob his gem exhibit turns out to be his mate, and he must woo her before he loses his dragon form forever. With enemies in every corner, and the all-important mating ceremony looming, Alec and Lucy must learn to trust each other, before time runs out for Alec and the rest of the dragons.

        Hey Jamie,
Thanks for wading in! I’m so sorry your friends are far off. :( My far-away friends and I made seeing each other, in person, a priority after Laura died. I hate to say it, but I’m not sure we would have been so determined if we hadn’t been so smacked in the heart with her loss. If you can’t get together, I also love social media sites, like a closed FB group, for keeping in touch and sharing photos.
Best of luck, and BFFs to you! Susannah

I love fun paranormals! I’ve never read any of your books, Susannah, but I’ll have to change that. Thanks for the contest!

Thanks for the contest & the excerpt – Can’t wait to read Luck of the Dragon! 2 of my college BFFs & I rented a little B&B in the heart of the NOLA French Quarter last summer and it was a terrific weekend. One lives very near, the other a couple of states away, and I hadn’t seen her since college. It was so great to catch up on their lives over the delicious French Quarter coffee & beignets, and then to just hang out on the front stoop of the B&B, visiting with the locals as they strolled past in the evening. Of course, this also let us find out all the best local restaurants. We missed this summer, but have promised to meet again as soon as possible.

First of all, you need to start by creating “Follow” and
“Pin It” buttons on your website. So, to overcome this issue you can able
to prefer few of the agents on online with readily made comparison.
One of the things the bakery we used as our model, My Little Taste of Italy, does is to network effectively both online and off.
