Stark and powerful, Nekro’s cover for LAST BLOOD by Kristen Painter garnered unanimous “Best” ratings across the board. Even more impressive, he was competing against his own work. We picked the scarlet of LAST BLOOD over the blue of ASHES ON THE WAVES, which Nekro cover do you like best?

Abigail’s Thoughts
You have to click the cover and view the enlarged version to fully appreciate the myriad of beautiful details here. It’s arresting.
Julia’s Thoughts
The wrought iron gate provides a good tie in to book one (and reminds me of New Orleans) while the light effects around the cover model do a good job establishing “paranormal”. Good job!
Kristina’s Thoughts
Very beautiful. I like the image of the ghost floating through the structures.

Abigail’s Thoughts
This is not as charged as the first cover, but I do love that she is literally ‘waking’ up to him
Julia’s Thoughts
This one feels a lot more stiff than book one and the wings get more attention than the couple.
Kristina’s Thoughts
I love the purple wings and then the hint of wing tattoo on his back.

“We have the cover for Affliction, the new Anita Blake novel coming in June! I love this cover!” - Laurell K. Hamilton
Abigail’s Thoughts
Not a big fan of the style of these covers. Her eye looks disproportional for her face here.
Julia’s Thoughts
I like this a lot better than KISS THE DEAD, though the eye effect is pretty weird.
Kristina’s Thoughts
That paper or whatever is over her face is odd.

Abigail’s Thoughts
Nekro is one of my favorite artists and his covers for this series are a big reason why. There is so much texture and depth. One of his best.
Julia’s Thoughts
My favorite yet! The red dress is a gorgeous frame for her back.
Kristina’s Thoughts
This is my favorite cover of the series. I like how this mirrors the first book where her back is to us.

The service of Britannia is not for the faint of heart–or conscience…
Emma Bannon, Sorceress Prime in service to Queen Victrix, has a mission: to find the doctor who has created a powerful new weapon. Her friend, the mentath Archibald Clare, is only too happy to help. It will distract him from pursuing his nemesis, and besides, Clare is not as young as he used to be. A spot of Miss Bannon’s excellent hospitality and her diverting company may be just what he needs.
Unfortunately, their quarry is a fanatic, and his poisonous discovery is just as dangerous to Britannia as to Her enemies. Now a single man has set Londinium ablaze, and Clare finds himself in the middle of distressing excitement, racing against time and theory to find a cure. Miss Bannon, of course, has troubles of her own, for the Queen’s Consort Alberich is ill, and Her Majesty unhappy with Bannon’s loyal service. And there is still no reliable way to find a hansom when one needs it most…
The game is afoot. And the Red Plague rises.

Abigail’s Thoughts
Great continuation from the debut with just enough differences to make it interesting. Plus I love her sly expression.
Julia’s Thoughts
Bannon and Clare both look a little happier on this cover, though their stance isn’t as dramatic as book one.
Kristina’s Thoughts
It has a nice gothic feel and I like the little objects on the bookshelf too.

Anyan may be trapped in an evil dragon and Blondie may be gone, but Jane knows one thing: she’s not about to give up. She’s ready to tear down heaven and earth to save her lover, despite those who believe he’s lost.
Luckily for Jane, those who’ve given up on Anyan do not include those closest to her. Defying The Powers That Be, Jane and Company form their own crack squad of misfits, in whose hands the fate of the world may well rest.
With a little help from her friends, the Universe, and lots of snacks, Jane embarks on her greatest adventure yet, confident that with great sacrifice comes great reward. The question is, who will be that sacrifice?
“It is, I think, the hottest cover yet. I LOVE the black and there are DRAGONS and Jane looks HOT. Right????” - Nicole Peeler
Abigail’s Thoughts
Interesting that they chose to go more muted with the colors in this final book. Great contrast between the left and right sides of the book with the dragons.
Julia’s Thoughts
The black border looks a little “eBook Special” esque, but I’m sure in person it will look great. Jane looks *kick butt*, it’s perfect how she stands strong on her own in this cover.
Kristina’s Thoughts
I love the two dragons though what is she looking at? Interesting contrast with the ‘medieval weapons’ and the modern looking buildings.

You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…
Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town…until River West comes along. River rents the guesthouse behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard. Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more? Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery…who makes you want to kiss back. Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.
Blending faded decadence and the thrilling dread of gothic horror, April Genevieve Tucholke weaves a dreamy, twisting contemporary romance, as gorgeously told as it is terrifying—a debut to watch.
“I asked for, and received, a font-driven cover for BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA. Thank you Dial. Thank you Kristin Smith. The typeface was designed specifically for my book by Simon Alander, and I love it. Gothic. Timeless. And the crashing, pounding sea in the background perfectly represents the rotting-mansion-by-the-sea setting. The icing on the cake? They managed to fit my long, long, long name on the cover as well. “Genevieve” didn’t get cut. Awesome. “ - April Genevieve Tucholke
Abigail’s Thoughts
So glad they created a custom font for a title this long. It really makes an impact. And I’m very intrigued by the tiny couple at the top.
Julia’s Thoughts
The background image is completely overpowered by that title, and having the entire title in the same font is overwhelming. It’s a well known phrase, do we really need to give equal emphasis to the little and’s and the’s? I liked the header on the cover reveal better than the actual title, focusing on that couple draws my interest. Reading the ornate title does nothing for me.
Kristina’s Thoughts
The title font is beautiful and aptly matches the cliff scene behind it.

Few images are more chilling than a decaying school bus. Very eye catching.
Julia’s Thoughts
The burned out school bus is such a striking image, I wish they had zoomed in to give it a bit more emphasis.
Kristina’s Thoughts
Eerie looking cover. What happened to the bus!

Abigail’s Thoughts
While the style of these covers has never been my favorite, this one is probably the best with the crazy bright colors and garden. I’m am a little concerned that neither Eric or Bill are featured, considering this is the final book in the series…
Julia’s Thoughts
This cover deserves two thumbs up just for the squeal I let loose when I saw that tiger tail. QUINN!! I LOVE YOU! I see Quinn’s tail, Sam, a werewolf, and vampire bats… looks like everyone is still in play. Woot woot!
Kristina’s Thoughts
I like the different creatures represented in this cover. Tiger(Quinn), dog(Sam), werewolf, and bats for vampires. I like the giant flowers and bright colors.

Abigail’s Thoughts
This almost looks like a different model, but I do like how strong she looks.
Julia’s Thoughts

Abigail’s Thoughts
I think it’s her too big smile that is keeping me from giving this a thumbs up. It doesn’t really fit with the way he is nuzzling her.

Light and fun, this wolf looks so much better than a floating head in the background.
Kristina’s Thoughts
This cover looks so fun. I like her smile.

Romance sparks and reputations are at stake. But who knows the real difference between fact and fiction?

Abigail’s Thoughts
Nothing says paranormal apart from the word ‘Bite’, some visual indication would have been nice.
Julia’s Thoughts
The historical/paranormal cover is a tough one. This one is dominantly historical, but the title, tagline, and feather hint at more…
Kristina’s Thoughts
Looks like it could be a standard romance cover.

“Seeing this cover made me want to grab my goggles and go on an adventure (feel free to do the same, send me a picture.) Yes, the blond is V. What do you think?” - Suzanne Lazear
Abigail’s Thoughts
Killer background and details once again. Her eyes look a little crazy in the goggles, but this is still very cool.
Julia’s Thoughts
As colorful as the first cover was, I’m so happy this cover doesn’t have the female model looking like such a ditz. Love it.
Kristina’s Thoughts
Solid Steampunk cover with the goggles and burning dirgible. Is he holding a navigation device?

I was very surprised that this was done by Nekro (Anna Dressed in Blood, House of Comarré), but it is gorgeous, especially his original image (click the cover to see it). The title font/detail is a big miss for me, but based on Nekro’s art I still give it a thumbs up.
Julia’s Thoughts
I adore how her dress looks like waves.
Kristina’s Thoughts
Love it. I like how she is shooting out of the water and her dress almost looks like a wave the way it is shaped.

Abigail’s Thoughts
Wings made of light…very ethereal.
Julia’s Thoughts
Love the dark wings on her arm as much as the wings on her back.
Kristina’s Thoughts
I love the wings. Are those wing tattoos on her arms?

February’s not the far away at least the second Ruined book is finally being published.
the girl on flirting with the full moon has a lot of cleavage going on. and i agree about the devil and the sea cover. that font is totally overpowering. if they wanted an all text font, they should have done that instead of trying to stick a background image in there that no one would see. thanks for sharing these cool new covers!

Thank you for featuring the cover of Ashes on the Waves. When my editor told me Nekro was creating an original piece for my cover, I felt like I’d won the lottery. I’d been a huge fan of his for a while. When I saw the cover for the first time, I screamed until I lost my voice. He is an amazing artist and a lovely person to deal with online.
