Angel wings are used to great and poor effect this week. The next cover in Vicki Pettersson’s Celestial Blues series is just plain gorgeous, with Griffin Shaw suited up and showing dark wings. I was less impressed by the latest Haflings series and Gilded Wings covers. Awkward placing or an incongruous setting can make wings look silly. I get the feeling that INFATUATE fits the contents of the book, but that isn’t enough to sell the cover for me. How about you?

Abigail’s Thoughts
What kills me about these covers is that while they look crazy sexy tough, the books are more wacky silly cute. Looks awesome though.
Julia’s Thoughts
I love Mollica’s take on Sophie, those striking eyes remind me of Esther Diamond covers.
Kristina’s Thoughts
She looks so sexy and tough! Although I want to reach over and push her hair out of her face.

Abigail’s Thoughts
Is she supposed to look that bored by her own book?
Julia’s Thoughts
Not a fan of the wing placement on these covers, especially this one. With her facing forward and them centered on her head, they look like feather antlers.
Kristina’s Thoughts
The placement of those lights is weird. She looks like she’s posing for a highschool yearbook photo.

No one creates realms like New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop. Now in a thrilling new fantasy series, enter a world inhabited by the Others, unearthly entities—vampires and shape-shifters among them—who rule the Earth and whose prey are humans.
As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut—a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard—a business district operated by the Others.
Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she’s keeping a secret, and second, she doesn’t smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she’s wanted by the government, he’ll have to decide if she’s worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.

Abigail’s Thoughts
Nice to see a non-sexy UF cover. This one is a touch sleepy, but the wolf helps
Julia’s Thoughts
I like how the individual elements of this cover come together. The highlights and title font that hint of claw swipes and the wolf peering from behind the tree.
Kristina’s Thoughts
Wow she’s fully clothed in practical clothing! I like the style used for the title. It looks like an interesting book.

Abigail’s Thoughts
I like the infinity symbol and the soft colors. I’m drawn to this one much more than the debut
Julia’s Thoughts
This cover is a big “Wow” after the lackluster first book’s art. The image is perfectly chosen and centered (love the freckles) and the title is mesmerizing with the Mobius looping through the words.
Kristina’s Thoughts
I like the soft colors. Its an interesting contrast from the darker colors of the previous book.

Abigail’s Thoughts
She looks simply ethereal. I would have liked to see the colors change between covers to help make them more distinguishable, but they are pretty.
Julia’s Thoughts
The other two covers looked natural and soft, but the staging and image on this one looks stiff. The proportions of her face look a little off, I would have preferred this image right side up and with more soft curls around her face.
Kristina’s Thoughts
Very nice pretty. I like that chain head jewelry and the vines on the title text is nice too.

What if your life wasn’t your own?
Liv comes out of a coma with no memory of her past and two distinct, warring voices inside her head. Nothing, not even her reflection, seems familiar. As she stumbles through her junior year, the voices get louder, insisting she please the popular group while simultaneously despising them. But when Liv starts hanging around with Spencer, whose own mysterious past also has him on the fringe, life feels complete for the first time in, well, as long as she can remember.
Liv knows the details of the car accident that put her in the coma, but as the voices invade her dreams, and her dreams start feeling like memories, she and Spencer seek out answers. Yet the deeper they dig, the less things make sense. Can Liv rebuild the pieces of her broken past, when it means questioning not just who she is, but what she is?
“Although the response to the original cover of ALL THE BROKEN PIECES was amazing and enthusiastic, Entangled Teen wanted to amp up the image up a bit to reflect the mystery of the story and its darker, gothic tone. When I opened my email to this image, I was completely blown away! It was everything I wanted and more. I mean, seriously! With the cool shattered affect and the broken font and I just LOVE it!” - Cindi Madsen
Abigail’s Thoughts
This is supposed to be an improvement? Yikes! This looks even more like a self-pub hatchet job than the first version.
Julia’s Thoughts
The mismatched eyes weird me out, but staging of this one doesn’t really grab me. Maybe it’s the black band across the middle, though I like the broken title font.
Kristina’s Thoughts
I think this is supposed to be broken pieces of glass except it doesn’t look like it.

Abigail’s Thoughts
Not my favorite pose for Edie, and I would have liked a more hospital feel to the background. The pink curtain is a little too opaque.
Julia’s Thoughts
Eek! No thank you! That pink hurts my eyes and her posture looks like a horror movie poster. I thought this was a novella cover at first glance, not up to the standard of prior covers.
Kristina’s Thoughts
Not a fan of the red tone and I would rather she be in a clinic on the cover.

Love! Make sure to click for the larger view to appreciate the details like her cherry ankle tattoo. The retro pinup look she has is perfect!
Julia’s Thoughts
Not just gorgeous and distinct, but a perfect match for the series. They did such a wonderful job.
Kristina’s Thoughts
Very film noir feel especially with the 40′s pinup look. Those black wings/shapes behind the guy are pretty intriguing too.

Haven Terra is still recovering from an internship that brought her literally to the brink of hell when a trip to New Orleans leads to more trouble. Graduating early from high school leaves the spring semester free, so Haven and her friends Dante and Lance head to the Big Easy to volunteer with community service projects. But their true mission becomes clear when they run across an enclave of devils known as the Krewe. New Orleans is a free-for-all for these shape-shifting devils, who are more reckless and vicious than any Haven, Lance, and Dante have encountered. And they soon discover their French Quarter housemates are also angels-in-training, and together they must face off with the Krewe in their quest for wings. But Haven’s resolve is tested when Lucian, the repentant devil with whom she was infatuated, resurfaces and asks her for help escaping the underworld. Can he be trusted? Or will aiding him cost Haven her angel wings—and her life? Thrilling, romantic, and full of surprises, this gripping sequel to Illuminate takes the battle of good and evil to the next level.

Abigail’s Thoughts
Can someone please explain to me why they replaced the gorgeously intricate font style from the debut with this? And the clothing, wings, and pose completely lost the hauntingly romantic vibe that the debut cover captured so well.
Julia’s Thoughts
This cover may fit the contents of the series (I’m not sure, I haven’t read it), but the tank top doesn’t work as well as that lovely dress. The staging looks silly (and not in an enticing way).
Kristina’s Thoughts
Simply because they messed with the font style and took away the etheral quality of the first book.

“People will die.”
Locked doors are opening, and uncanny creatures are tumbling through mysterious portals from Mag Mell, the world-between-worlds, into the streets of Chicago. The Dark Man has marked Aiden with a new song that’s scared him badly, and a frightening new group of sídhe is lurking nearby.
Teagan knows this is war, and she must protect her family. She leaves her flesh and bones behind to join Finn in hunting the evil beings across the city. Meanwhile, their relationship is heating up—almost faster than they can control. But he is still bound to fight goblins his entire life . . . and by blood she is one of them now.
Then the gateway to Mag Mell cracks open again, and the Wylltsons find themselves caught in a trap. As her loved ones begin to die, Teagan realizes that she must destroy the Dark Man and his minions once and for all in order to save those who remain . . .
. . . before it is too late.

Abigail’s Thoughts
While I like the surreal quality that these covers have, they would never stop me in a bookstore.
Julia’s Thoughts
The covers for this series are distinctive, the lighting and feel really make it easy to group these together.
Kristina’s Thoughts
The lightning and the color of the sky are awesome and scary at the same time. The crooked angle helps with the creepy vibe.

Love this:) My favorite is: The Impossibility of tomorrow and all the broken pieces:)
‘The Alchemy of Forever’ has another cover in the style of ‘The Impossibility of Tomorrow’ and is really pretty, though I do prefer the gorgeous ‘Tomorrow’ cover
So gorgeous, I like it in pink, too. http://www.goodreads.com/book/photo/13546912-the-alchemy-of-forever
I actually really like All the Broken Pieces. It not only stood out for me from the rest, but it seems to suit the blurb perfectly with the shattered mirror reflected two different faces all mingled together.
The two different eyes really freaked me out.
thanks for a great post! Once again, you provided me with some excellent preorders
I agree with your worst picks. I wouldn’t have even known that Infatuate was book two of The Gilded Wings especially compared to the first book. I’m not a fan of the tank top at all. I agree with Kristina the girl on the cover of Avenger looks like she’s ready for senior pictures.
The Lost is definitely very appealing. I love the bright pink of her dress against the dark background. I also really like The Goddess Inheritance. It fits with the other but also stands out with the different placement of the model.
I look forward to seeing this post and commenting and all the pretty/creepy covers!
