The Merrick brothers have a secret.

They control the elements of Earth, Air, Water, and Fire.

Gabriel Merrick controls fire. Sometimes.

It’s a dangerous time to be living in Annapolis.

An arsonist is burning down homes.

And all the signs point to Gabriel.

Only … he’s not doing it.

He’s saving lives.

No one believes him: not his brothers, not the fire department.

The one person who does believe him has a few secrets of her own.

Layne might have all the answers, but can they trust each other?

Or will they go down in flames?

Both Storm and Spark, the first two books in The Elemental Series, are available now from Kensington Books, available wherever books are sold.

This photoblog would not have been possible without the support of Leslie Rhodes Photography. You can check out more of her amazing work at

Gabriel Merrick plays with fire. Literally.

Sometimes he can even control it. And sometimes he can’t. Like the fire that killed his parents.

Gabriel has always had his brothers to rely on, especially his twin, Nick. But when an arsonist starts wreaking havoc on their town, all the signs point to Gabriel. Only he’s not doing it.

More than Gabriel’s pride is at stake — this could cost him his family, maybe his life. And no one seems to hear him. Except a shy sophomore named Layne, a brainiac who dresses in turtlenecks and jeans and keeps him totally off balance. Layne understands family problems, and she understands secrets. She has a few of her own.

Gabriel can’t let her guess about his brothers, about his abilities, about the danger that’s right at his heels. But there are some risks he can’t help taking.

The fuse is lit…

Well, I’m 34 years old, so I wouldn’t want to date any of them. 😛 But I think I’d most likely be friends with Michael. I totally get him. As far as powers, probably Nick. Or Gabriel. Or Chris. Or … heck, I like them all. 🙂

I’ve had my eye on these books for a while now. How many books are planned for the series.

    • Brigid Kemmerer

Right now, I’m contracted for three books and three novellas. I’m almost ready to deliver the third book to my editor, and then we’ll talk about more…

My daughter is DYING to read this book! BUT if I win, I may ‘hide’ it for a day so I can read it first! LOL!

How did you come up with this idea for a series? It’s brilliant!

Any plans for a new series/books?

    • Brigid Kemmerer

Well, I’d written this book about four vampire brothers when I was back in high school. I couldn’t get those four brothers out of my head, but I knew I had to do something new. I kept thinking of things that went with four: four horsemen of the apocalypse, four-leaf-clovers, four, four, four. Finally I came up with elements, and that stuck. 🙂

I hope both you and your daughter like Spark! Thank you so much!!

I am working on a super secret project, right now, something with more of a fantasy slant…

I LOVED Storm! Brigid Kemmerer is so amazing. Thank you so much for this giveaway! I want to know which brother is her favorite!

    • Brigid Kemmerer

Yay! Thank you so much!! I can’t pick a favorite brother; I love them all!! Gabriel is by far the most fun to write, however. Though I will say that Kate, Hunter’s love interest in Spirit, is quite feisty herself.

  4. Caty R

I just won Storm in an ebook giveaway and can’t wait to read it.
    Thanks for the giveaway

  5. DeeDee Griffin

Out of all the books in the Deadly Destinations giveaways, this is the one I’m dying to read!

    • Brigid Kemmerer

Okay, so I could give you the BS answer of being intrigued by the brotherly dynamic and wanting to explore male relationships, or I could just say that I thought up these four brothers when I was in high school, and teenage Brigid simply thought the idea of four brothers was HOT. 🙂

This looks like a fantastic series. Thanks for a chance to win a copy. Carin

I mention up above how I came up with the idea of four brothers who control the elements, but for THIS book, with the firefighting, I really wanted to do something different that I hadn’t seen in a paranormal novel before. Gabriel’s talents lended themselves really well to secretly fighting fires, and researching the novel was a ton of fun.

  7. Joanne B

I haven’t started this series yet, but it sounds fantastic.

  8. Kai W.

The love triangle with two brothers. This is theme that has been repeated through so many books but the consequences and stories are so different. I love reading this theme. It is interesting every time.

    • Brigid Kemmerer

Oh wow, I’m jealous! I haven’t been to the beach in forever! Have a great time. I hope the Merrick brothers keep you company! 🙂

  9. Texas Book Lover

I haven’t read this series yet but it sounds like one my daughter and I would both love!

    • Brigid Kemmerer

Yay, thank you! I hope you get the opportunity to give them a try! Also, I love that you’re from Texas. My husband always says if I “hit it big” as an author (ha!!), he wants to move to San Antonio. 🙂

YA has become very popular and there are so many more choices then when I was a YA. What drew you to write for the genre/age group?
