Cover Art Coverage

Cover Art Reveals are a fun part of my blog browsing week, and the Special Edition MAGIC BITES cover art wrung and audible and excited squeal from me this week.  Despite owning digital and paperback copies already, I think it’s safe to say I’ll be pre-ordering the new art.  Dare I hope this is the start of a redesign for the series?  I’d buy them all over again if they came out in hardback.  Or course, I have a bit of a book hoarding problem…

Magic Bites Magic Burns Magic Strikes Magic Bleeds Magic Slays

When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose, leaving all kinds of paranormal problems in its wake.

Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up these magical problems. But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta’s magic circles.

The Masters of the Dead, necromancers who can control vampires, and the Pack, a paramilitary clan of shapechangers, blame each other for a series of bizarre killings—and the death of Kate’s guardian may be part of the same mystery. Pressured by both sides to find the killer, Kate realizes she’s way out of her league—but she wouldn’t have it any other way…

“My precious.”  – Ilona Andrews

Abigail’s Thoughts

Kate looks so young, but I always thought this series deserved better covers and this is miles better than the original. Too bad they couldn’t get Tony Mauro who did GUNMETAL MAGIC.

Julia’s Thoughts

When this cover came through my RSS feed, there were audible squeals and a rush to Amazon.  Kate looks a little young, but the eyes and stubborn chin are just freaking perfect.  Worlds better than the original *loveloveloveWANT*

Kristina’s Thoughts

Its a nice cover but not exactly how I pictured Kate. She looks a bit young and not that tough.

Until Next Time (The Angel ...

The Beloved Angel/Warrior Team from Until Next TimeReturns!

When Matt and Emily are sent on their second mission they have no idea how truly dark human nature can become…

Emily never wanted to face humans again. With the heartache that went on down below, she’s still trying to figure out how to save souls that don’t deserve saving. The only one she wants to see again is Jason – the young man she fell in love with who became the soulmate she simply can’t forget…

Matt was trained to protect and defend the souls down below. Longing to feel the heartfelt emotions that come from being human, Matt wants nothing more than to have just one life – one chance – to live and love the girl of his dreams…

The powerful team find themselves in a brand new century, living in the Gilded Age of New York City. Emily takes over the body of Anya, a young Russian girl who arrives on Ellis Island after a hideous tragedy. There she meets up with a strangely familiar young man by the name of Drew Parrish, who helps Anya survive in an unknown world of luxury, snobbery and…obsession.

What Anya’s inner angel doesn’t know is that the soul she loves is also back. This time around Jason goes by the name of Max Carrow. Once a quiet and kind boy, he’s now part of the ‘Four Hundred Club,’ and wants nothing more than to be among the most admired as he climbs the shaky ladder of society’s elite.

As two worlds merge, Emily and Matt struggle under the weight of their “Gilded Wings.” Not only will they have to figure out who they should fight to save, but they must also face a romantic choice that could destroy them both.

Abigail’s Thoughts

This cover looks so great with the debut. Really love the cracked stone overlay on his skin.

Julia’s Thoughts

Beautiful, it looks like he’s holding the pieces of his chart together.

Kristina’s Thoughts

I like the cracks on his skin. It mirrors the previous cover really well.

Dark Kiss (Nightwatchers, #1)

MY KISS CAN KILL.

I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that’s changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone’s soul…or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don’t…I hurt myself.

Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I’ll kill him. Then there’s another boy, one I can’t hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger. They’re both part of a team of angels and demons that’s joined forces in my city to fight a mysterious rising darkness, an evil that threatens everyone I know and love. I just wonder if I’ll be able to help Bishop-or if I’m just another part of the darkness he’s sworn to destroy….

NIGHTWATCHERS

When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising…

Abigail’s Thoughts

Very different from what I was expecting based on the first cover, but I love that they went in the opposite direction yet kept the style the same.

Julia’s Thoughts

Absolutely awesome. I love the ripples that mimic wings, and this shade of pink is gorgeous.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Why is that scarf flopping around like that. I keep wanting to tie it up for her. Not a fan of the monochromatic tone of this cover. Too pink.

Abigail’s Thoughts

I declare this the best tagline of all time: The Goddess Test meets Dexter . The cover is a little nondescript, but the all white corridor is cool.

Julia’s Thoughts

I like the boldness of the central image and title, but the background image (white snakes) weirds me out.

Kristina’s Thoughts

I like the all white room. It makes her and the title pop out more. There are a lot of snakes on that floor…

Kissed by an Angel (Kissed ... The Power of Love (Kissed b... Soulmates (Kissed by an Ang... Evercrossed (Kissed by an A... Everlasting (Kissed by an A...

The sweeping saga of Ivy and Tristan comes to a breathtaking conclusion in this final book of the all-new arc in the New York Times bestselling Kissed by an Angel series. It seems the odds are forever against Ivy and her fallen angel. Tristan is still trapped in the body of an accused murderer, and as the two star-crossed lovers try to clear his name, they must battle the dark forces that would keep them apart and destroy them both. The danger is especially great for Tristan since, as a fallen angel, death would mean losing his soul. It’s up to Ivy to save the one she loves and, hopefully, find a way for the two of the them to be together…for all eternity.

Abigail’s Thoughts

It’s a flower. It’s unremarkable. It’s totally forgettable.

Julia’s Thoughts

I’m not a fan of the black space at the top, is a blurb going to go there?  While it makes sense in the context of prior covers, this one on it’s own is unremarkable.

Kristina’s Thoughts

It looks like they changed the cover style part way through. I love the flower images on the more recent covers. And while this flower doesn’t have the vibrancy of the previous covers’ flowers I like the subtleness of the pink and the petals slowly falling to the floor. Great for this book since it is the final in the series.

Abigail’s Thoughts

I’m not a fan of this style of PNR covers: shirtless, headless guy with a floating cat head in the background. There are way too many covers like this.

Julia’s Thoughts

Not a fan of this style in general, and this one deviates from the series style (pink title instead of yellow, no dominant color).  Not memorable.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Been done many times. Nothing really stands out to make it unique or interesting.

When high-school senior Noah Gallagher and his adopted teenage sister, Lo, go to live with their grandmother in her island cottage for the summer, they don’t expect much in the way of adventure. Noah has landed a marine biology internship, and Lo wants to draw and paint, perhaps even to vanquish her struggles with bulimia. But then things take a dramatic turn for them both when Noah mistakenly tries to save a mysterious girl from drowning. This dreamlike, suspenseful story—deftly told from multiple points of view—dives deeply into selkie folklore while examining the fluid nature of love and family.

Abigail’s Thoughts

The proportions are off somehow. It almost looks like she doesn’t have legs.

Julia’s Thoughts

Wow, a haunting and beautiful cover.  I love the complimentary curves of the seal and the swimmer, and the trail of bubbles make it look like she’s wearing a dress.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Is she supposed to be a selkie? Maybe that’s why she has no legs. She’s transforming. Its okay but doesnt really scream YA fantasy.

Abigail’s Thoughts

While I like the continuation of the wind and back view, this is much less striking than the previous covers.

Julia’s Thoughts

I never would have placed these three together, but the progression of time periods has me intrigued about this series.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Nice continuity between covers in the series but this one just doesn’t do it for me as much. I think its the colors or the fading on the left hand side.

Abigail’s Thoughts

I’m so drawn the the covers for this series with the emphasis on setting over the model. This dock at sunset is lovely.

Julia’s Thoughts

Love the staging and colors in these series, the setting is practically a character in and of itself.

Kristina’s Thoughts

I love the dock at sunset and the birds flying about are a nice touch. The covers in this series have a serene quality to them.

1. Never trust anyone.

2. Remember they are always searching.

3. Don’t get involved.

4. Keep your head down.

5. Don’t fall in love.

Five simple rules. Ariane Tucker has followed them since the night she escaped from the genetics lab where she was created, the result of combining human and extraterrestrial DNA. Ariane’s survival—and that of her adoptive father—depends on her ability to blend in among the full-blooded humans, to hide in plain sight from those who seek to recover their lost (and expensive) “project.”

But when a cruel prank at school goes awry, it puts her in the path of Zane Bradshaw, the police chief’s son and someone who sees too much. Someone who really sees her. After years of trying to be invisible, Ariane finds the attention frightening—and utterly intoxicating. Suddenly, nothing is simple anymore, especially not the rules…

“I think the cover is GORGEOUS and perfect for the book! I’m so excited for you all to see it.” – Stacey Kade

Abigail’s Thoughts

Love Stacey Kade and the plot sounds intriguing, but there isn’t anything remarkable about this cover.

Julia’s Thoughts

A definite Dollhouse vibe, sounds perfect for this story.  Her eyes freak me out, however.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Definitely a “meh” from me. I like the DNA sequencing (I think that’s what those bars are supposed to be) but other than that its okay.

From the depths of a valley rises the city of Mahala.

It’s a city built upwards, not across – where streets are built upon streets, buildings upon buildings. A city that the Ministry rules from the sunlit summit, and where the forsaken lurk in the darkness of Under.

Rojan Dizon doesn’t mind staying in the shadows, because he’s got things to hide. Things like being a pain-mage, with the forbidden power to draw magic from pain. But he can’t hide for ever.

Because when Rojan stumbles upon the secrets lurking in the depths of the Pit, the fate of Mahala will depend on him using his magic. And unlucky for Rojan – this is going to hurt.

Abigail’s Thoughts

I love the perspective. It feels like I could fall into this cover. The tiny red figure really stands out against the grey/black.

Julia’s Thoughts

Fantastic perspective, I love the movement of the text.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Very cool. You could get vertigo looking at this cover for too long! I like the little red person on the bridge. The title reminds me of the title fonts used on FRINGE.

I think I agree with the majority here…Fade to Black is my favourite cover. But my least favourite would have to be Gilded Wings.
