Abigail here filling in for Julia again (she’ll be back next week with comments too).  Go figure the week after we set a cover limit for these posts we only have 12.  I blame Comic-con.  We did get some BIG ones though including a stunner from artist Cliff Nielsen and a redesign for Julie Cross’s Tempest series. Be sure to check our Pinterest board for the final version of The Indigo Spell (Bloodlines #3) by Richelle Mead and more.  And if you missed the announcement a few days ago, Deadly Destinations is coming next month! We can’t wait!

As Jem’s health worsens alarmingly and his friends search desperately for a cure, can Tessa choose between the two boys she loves—even if it means never seeing the other one again?

The Clockwork Princess cover. It’s up and it’s gorgeous. -Author’s Comments

Abigail’s Thoughts

Completely gorgeous. Tessa is stunning and that might be the loveliest glowing book ever.

Kristina’s Thoughts

I love the light coming out of the book! Great addition to this series.

Untitled (Divergent, #3)

“Time-travel is definitely taken up a notch in the second installment. There are also a few new characters that I really enjoy writing. Readers will learn a little more about Jackson’s dad and some of the mysteries that surround him and his job. After a short prologue, the book opens about three months after the end of Tempest. Three months that Jackson has lived in full — the normal way, no time jumps.” – from Julie Cross

I love the shattered glass…! my favorite part…besides Model Jackson and Holly of course :) -Author’s Comments

Abigail’s Thoughts

I still love the original TEMPEST cover, but the redesign does a better job of hinting at the time-travel theme

Kristina’s Thoughts

I like the broken up chunks of glass and the color combination is nice too.

A RUTHLESS KILLER—
OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND

I used to work for the Telepath’s Guild before they kicked me out for a drug habit that wasn’t entirely my fault. Now I work for the cops, helping Homicide Detective Isabella Cherabino put killers behind bars.

My ability to get inside the twisted minds of suspects makes me the best interrogator in the department. But the normals keep me on a short leash. When the Tech Wars ripped the world apart, the Guild stepped up to save it. But they had to get scary to do it—real scary.

Now the cops don’t trust the telepaths, the Guild doesn’t trust me, a serial killer is stalking the city—and I’m aching for a fix. But I need to solve this case. Fast. I’ve just had a vision of the future: I’m the next to die.

Abigail’s Thoughts

It’s all about the trench coat.  Nothing says PI better.  I would have liked a face or a more intriguing pose, but I like this.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Liking the effects of the buildings being at an angle. It gives a claustrophobic or intimidating feel to the cover with the city looming over the guy.

Thanks to Editor B. (that’s Brian Farrey-Latz) at Flux and cover designer Lisa Novak. You did it again, Lisa! I can’t tell you how much I love this image. It’s perfect for the book, the final volume in The Iron Witch trilogy. This book is Dark (with a capital-D) and Donna must go through yet another transformation to even have a chance of surviving. Oh, and there’s just a small matter of saving the world… Also, I like that it’s a Girl-in-a-Ballgown cover where the girl actually does go to a ball. ;) -Author’s Comments

Abigail’s Thoughts

Apart from the title design (which I love), the image looks very self pub.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Dark and gothic looking. I like the design around the title and the mask. The splash of vibrant red feathers on the mask.

Speaking to the dead is no new thing for Daisy Goodnight. The living, on the other hand, can occasionally be a problem. Especially when they knock you out, kidnap you, and force you to be their magical police dog.

Donald Maguire—mob boss, extraordinaire—has a missing daughter and Daisy is his first choice to track her down. But he didn’t actually ask her for help. When she woke up in his guest bedroom, she was told. But why her? And who—or what—in the world is the Black Jackal?

Abigail’s Thoughts

How beautiful is this? The lighting is creating that subtle sheen on her skin that is so lovely, and the smoky design on the font is stunning.  Love everything about this.

Kristina’s Thoughts

It’s okay. I like the effect on the title. And it’s got a dark feel to it.

Wow. I love all of the circles/swirls and the light as the dot on the ‘i’ in Magical. Definately looks very magical

Abigail’s Thoughts

What I love about the covers for this series is the silhouetted landscape along the bottom.  It’s that added extra clue about the book.  Plus the couple this time has such a romantic pose.

Kristina’s Thoughts

It’s nice and simple. I like the scrolling landscape of London on the bottom and the flower in the model’s hair.

Grace Doll had everything a girl could want: Fame. Fortune. Beauty.

Everything except, of course, her freedom. So when a powerful movie producer forces an experimental treatment on Grace–one that’s purported to make beauty immortal–she stages her own death to escape him.

With the help of trusted friends, Grace slips into hiding. She’s forever flawless, forever young and forever pursued by her past.

But when a stranger arrives on her doorstep, holding the key to a life she thought she’d left behind, Grace must decide between the safety she’s known… and embracing the role she was born to play.

Abigail’s Thoughts

The film border and director’s chair are nice, strong plot indicators.  I also like one shock of color in her teal dress.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Very simple but I like the way it looks like a part of a film reel. It makes me want to know more about this book just by looking at the cover.

Immortal City

Maddy explores her Angel heritage—and struggles to get her wings—as the Angels and the humans head for a showdown.

Life turned upside down for Maddy Montgomery when she found out she was half-Angel and was catapulted into the scene of flashbulbs, paparazzi, and fervent adulation that comes with
being in the celebrity Angel world.

And now Maddy must face the most difficult choice of her life. She’s been offered the chance to become a Guardian. This means dangerous and high-stakes training, with no guarantee that she can succeed. But more than that, it would mean leaving her mortal life behind—forever— and allying with the Angels at a time when their relationship with humans is heading for war…

Abigail’s Thoughts

Perfect compliment to the first cover.  Wonder if they both will be on the next cover?

Kristina’s Thoughts

I like the purple wings..

Previous version

Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky—and unending—lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.

It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left…his soul.

Abigail’s Thoughts

Hats off to Entangled for redesigning the cover.  This is a huge improvement and completely eliminates the DIY look the first version had.  I’m more excited to read this now.

Kristina’s Thoughts

Nice touch with the two scythes around the series title. Cute cover.

Once BittenTwice Dead

Going home after five years is difficult. It’s harder still if you’ve changed species in the interim.

Kita Nekai, once the smallest shifter in Firth but now the newest vampire in the city of Haven, has no intention of returning home or informing her father and clan what she’s become. Not that she has a choice. When the mage who holds her death certificate in his hands demands Kita return to Firth as his errand runner, she has to comply. Of course, there is no leaving her sire, Nathanial, behind. Which means introducing daddy dearest to the man—well, vampire—she may be falling for and confessing that she’s lost the ability to shift. Talk about awkward.

Her homecoming goes from bad to worse when an attempt is made on her life, and Kita finds herself facing an unknown threat in a hostile world she never fit into in the first place. Can she survive long enough to complete the judge’s task, stand trial before the elders for the rogues she created while on the run, and help defend her father’s territory from an encroaching band of misfit shifters? Or is this cat down to her last life?

I’m very happy to reveal the cover for THIRD BLOOD! I really love this cover–it fits the story wonderfully. -Author’s Comments

Abigail’s Thoughts

I’m not getting this cover.  It looks steampunk, but I don’t think it is (at least the first book wasn’t and the description of this one doesn’t lead me to believe this is either).

Kristina’s Thoughts

I like the gears and the green tint to the forest in the background.
