A stranger in the night…
He had once been a warrior of the Light, one of the revered Paladin. A protector. But now he lives in darkness, and the shadows are his sanctuary. Every day is a struggle to overcome the bloodlust. Especially the day Karissa shows up on his doorstep.
Comes knocking on the door…
She is light and bright everything beautiful—despite her scratches and torn clothes. Every creature of the night is after her. So is every male Paladin. Because Karissa is the last female of their kind. But she is his. He may not have a soul, but he can’t deny his heart.
It has been a long time since I’ve encountered such a well balanced Paranormal Romance as DELIVER ME FROM DARKNESS, which introduces a new mythology, a new couple, and what looks to be a very promising series without missing a beat. Though this variation of vampires, angelic-warriors, and demons isn’t ground breaking, this sexy, action-packed world is one which I look forward to revisiting.
What gives DELIVER ME FROM DARKNESS series appeal (above and beyond enjoying this particular book), were some intriguing supporting characters. Despite the heartbreaking circumstances of Gabriella’s existence (trapped in a 14-year-old body by her mother’s betrayal), she has distinct potential as a future heroine. I’ll be looking forward to her book if only to see how Hilaire handles such a tragic heroine. Roland and Karissa’s own relationship heralds a shake up for the hidebound and stagnant Paladin society, and the end of this book has me very curious to see which dominoes will fall next. Though a number of other characters are introduced in this book (and we get a glimpse of a potential leading man for Gabriellla), we get little more than a glimpse into the paladin’s ranks. I’m hoping future books will delve more into how these warriors, both their group dynamic and how they will handle the changes that are shaking up their world.
Many of the Paranormal Romances that I’ve picked up lately have either been disappointing series openers or the latest in a long, long line of established stories. DELIVER ME FROM DARKNESS breaks both molds as Hilarie has started a series that is fun, well-written, and oh so welcome.
