Cover Art Coverage: 27 New Covers!

March 28, 2012 Cover Art Coverage 4

Hi All! Julia’s taking another much needed week off from the Cover Art Coverage post (there have been scads of cover reveals lately and this is a time consuming post to put together each week).  Several great covers to gush over this week including a new one from artist Gene Mollica that get’s my Best pick, as well as a very promising new series from Anton Strout. And it seems that no week is complete without a disappointing PNR cover and Julia and I agree on below.  Let us know which ones you love and hate in the comments or via Twitter @Abigail_ATUF

This looks a lot like some of Christine Feehan’s Leopard People covers.  Not nuts about the colors, but it is fun to see the new series is going to feature couples. The male cover model looks a little derpy to me, an impression that is not helped by the moon-faced jaguar popping out of the trees.

He looks a little squat for some reason.  It’s a little hard to tell where his leg ends and the shadow begins. It’s not a bad cover, but there is nothing really amazing about it. It’s not as striking as the debut either. A little too plain for my tastes, and the crisp lighting doesn’t offer as much suspense as they’re probably hoping for.  Also, pretty genre neutral. N/A

Looks very cool. Wish there was a description up too, but this cover is ticking all my UF check boxes all on it’s own…very curious about whether or not the gargoyle is a character. I don’t love this style, but there is something compelling about the three girls Wow, this cover made me double-take.  Anyone get the impression of quite a lot of skin at first glance?  I’m not sure I like the suggestion of nudity with such a young (and obviously meant to be vulnerable) cover model, but definitely distinctive.  Don’t think I’d peg it as anything paranormal, though. here she is, in all her beauty! BURN FOR BURN!honestly, you guys, we just about died the first time we saw this cover! it was perfect! and it’s even hotter in the full jacket wrap-around version.

I’m not normally a fan of chic-lit style are, but I like this one quite a lot. It’s on the cutesy side, but the bold colors help toughen it up. These colors really leap off the screen, and I’m impressed that they don’t clash.  The fine detail in this drawing makes me want to spend time studying it. Isn’t it so pretty? My cover artist, Bella Pilar, does such an amazing job.Every where you see swirls has glitter embossing, some of the baubles in the window are glittery, and Missy’s collar and Darcy’s necklace are also glitzy. So fun! Absolutely love this cover–couldn’t be happier!

Ooh…very cool. I truly think it’s striking (no pun intended–the artist is Steven Wood), and I love that it’s also thematically right and will be even richer in meaning for actual readers. The basic concept comes from the fact that protagonist Miranda Blackwood’s father has a strawberry-colored snake-shaped birthmark that symbolizes the Blackwood family’s supposed curse.

I agree with Aimee that this is the best cover yet.  The the bolder Greek key pattern and her pose looking up into the light are really working for me. So glad the sequel got an original image (the first cover used the same image as a Marjorie M. Liu cover). Look how buff she is! Love that. Neutral hand… there’s a lot going on on this cover, between the background and the cover model and the title/author treatment.  Nothing really flows together, other than the colors, which gives me a low production value vibe.  Not bad, but not special either. I’ve got to say I’m extremely pleased with it. The NAL art department is absolutely amazing.

GOT DEMON?
Grace does. She’s got more demon than she can saddle. In fact, she’s got a sinfully sexy Crown Prince of Hell named Caspian. She’s also got ten days to get rid of him or Bad Things shall ensue. See, her Russian mobster ex-boyfriend didn’t take kindly to her smutty Mephistophelean contract. It’s not that she’s conspiring with fiends; that was his idea. It’s that she’s conspiring against him with outrageous devilry that runs the gamut from embarrassing to a dead hooker turned dominatrix demon gunning for his soul.
One should never trust demons, let alone shag them. They don’t have hearts. Yet Grace is buying hers some slightly tarnished armor and hoping that once he’s been shoveled into it, kicking and screaming, he’ll find it’s just his size. This wicked witch needs a white knight–or at least a Prince of Darkness for a Happily Ever After.

I first saw this without the stepback and thought ‘oh no, it’s like a bad Christine Feehan cover’ but the stepback behind the die-cut front is gorgeous. Best in the series. Well crap.  The title already had me worried enough, now with the whole “prison theme” for the cover I’m terrified for Pia and Dragos.  I still would have preferred a sexy, understated cover like SERPENT’S KISS, but everything about LORD’S FALL seems to be focusing on tension.  This image doesn’t look all that great digitally, but as die-cut bars that show the stepback underneath, it sounds like it will be eye-catching in person. I’m utterly excited to share with you the awesome covers for LORD’S FALL…[it] will have a step-back cover, which means there will be a front cover and an inside cover, or a “step-back.”  The front cover will have a die-cut at the top so you can see the step-back through the bars.

Took the words right out of my mouth. If it was up to me, I'd switch these covers and the Unearthly covers

There are some really pretty covers I especially like Envy, Heaven and Neferet's Curse. All YA books mmm…guess you know what genre I read the most.
My least favorites are Savage Hunger and Blaze. Loved Julia's comment "looks like this cover model is waiting for the cover to show up…" I'm still laughing at that, but it's so true.

The FEVER cover was so hot I couldn't take my eyes off of it, so I can see where they were going with BLAZE, but there's something missing. Such a gorgeous chest, I can understand why they made him the centerpiece… but throw the man a t-shirt or something. As much as I complain about photoshopped tattoos, at least it looks finished.
