Cover Art Coverage: 17 New Titles

March 17, 2012 Cover Art Coverage 17

Hi Guys, Abigail here. I’m filling in for Julia this week (although her comments are still included). We’re introducing some new changes to the Cover Art Coverage posts including an updated graphic, a new layout for the covers, and the Cover Submit form is linked at the bottom instead of being embedded (let us know in the comments if you’re not a fan of the changes).  There are two series that are featuring new looks, one of which I’m a big fan of, the other gets my pick for Worst this week.  We’ve also got several highly anticipated reveals including Kresley Cole’s first YA, and the first in Gail Carriger’s new series.  And the busiest man in paranormal romance adds yet another cover to his resume.  Can you spot model Paul Marron below?

I never connected with the style of this series, but this new look is great. The B&W; with the splash of red is very striking (I always love that combination), and he looks a little like Dean from Supernatural to me.  Not a fan of that shade of red, but with abs like that, I’m not really looking at the title. This is my favorite depiction of the lion from the series, but it’s not my favorite depiction of Sorcha.  It is still a gorgeous cover (Jason Chan does beautiful work), like an oil painting. Such a gorgeous cover, I love this Egyptian profile look.  The colors are so rich, too. I love how Jason has captured the trio looking towards the future. Merrick (YAY he’s on the cover!) looks concerned…as well he should. Sorcha is concentrating on the power in her hand (perhaps she is blinded by that). The Rossin is letting forth a challenging roar (are we going to see more trouble from him?)

I think I like this cover even more than the debut.  Cliff did an excellent job & I really appreciate the distinctive look this series has.  I love the green and gold, lovely rich background. This is sort of an after-the-fact reveal, since it went up on my publisher’s Facebook page in January and I hadn’t seen it.But it wasn’t a total shocker because I’d seen the rough sketches. Now, here it is in all its green, swampy glory, with a cover by the ever-talented Cliff Nielsen. I’m prejudiced, of course, but I think it rocks!

Love most of the YA covers this time, especially the one for the new book by Gail Carriger. Can't wait until this book will be published.

  2. erin

Thanks for the covers! I love these "reveals" plus you guys are usually my source for future release dates :)

  3. Anonymous

I love the new layout (placement of the previous covers, all three comments together, etc.). Nice job. I really like the new "add to Goodreads" button, too. Thanks for doing these posts!

  4. Joseph Nassise

Always nice to see one of my covers here! Thanks to Abigail and Julia for their thoughts. The creature on the cover is a "Sorrow" and I have to give cliff some credit, the description in the book is purposely vague so he didn't have too much to go on. Given what he did have, he did a decent job. I like the repetition of the eyes the best.

  5. Abigail

It's a little too creepy for me. But I know Julia thought it was just the right amount creepy :)

  6. Tracey O'Hara

Thanks for showing my cover – I really love it because it really goes well with the first two soe they look like a series. I get frustrated when a series changes the look and feel of the cofers part they way through. As for the blurb -

An ancient darkness has risen from the ashes…and terror has been loosed upon an unsuspecting world.

Forensic witch Bianca Sin has never seen anything like it: homeless teenage girls torn to pieces by dark magic in the cold shadows of the city. More terrifying still is the symbol written in blood on an alley wall—the unmistakable seal of the Dark Brethren.

Teaming up with NYPD homicide detective Lancelot McManus and an elite task force headed by the shapeshifter Oberon DuPrie, Bianca knows her worse fears have finally come to pass. A new war of annihilation is looming that will plunge the worlds of vampire, shapeshifter, and human into chaos—and two adversarial tribes locked in uneasy truce will need to take up arms together to save the children. Trust will be essential for Sin and McManus, as the hunt forces them to confront their deepest terrors.

For the ultimate evil is no longer approaching.

    It’s here

I have to say, I've decided I absolutely adore Cliff Nielson.

And I appreciate the bigger covers being shown in the post – though now I can't see the whole cover before I see your opinions, which I liked doing.

  8. Abigail

Thanks for the blurb Tracey! And I totally agree that continuity in a series is so important.

  9. Abigail

We're always fiddling with the layout. It's a lot of information to include without getting crazy :) If you scroll a little slower, you can see the whole cover before seeing our opinions. W'll give it some thought to see if we can find some solutions.
