Giveaway & Guest Post: Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux Playlist & win OBSIDIAN

December 14, 2011 Giveaways, Guests 50

Jennifer L. Armentrout has stopped by today to offer one, free copy of her latest book, OBSIDIAN, and a behind the curtain glimpse of her writing playlist.  OBSIDIAN earned 4 Bats here at All Things Urban Fantasy, not the least because of Daemon, the budding alpha hero who pushes all the right “bad boy” buttons, and Katy, the plucky heroine who refuses to be pushed around.  I can’t wait to pick up book two in this series, ONYX (May 2012 by Entangled Publishing), but in the meantime, the playlist below has me wanting to enjoy book one all over again.  Enjoy!

A Lux Playlist by Jennifer L. Armentrout

A lot of readers are curious when it comes to what music an author listens to when they write. So I’ve compiled a list of songs I listened to or just reminded me of the novel/characters. I’ve also included random notes about the songs. Hope you enjoy!

  • Florence and the Machines “Dog Days of Summer” (Happy times and stuff)
  • Perfect Circle “Rhythm of the War Drums” (Pretty much any fight scene)
  • Civil Twilight “Letters from the Sky” (The one lake scene)
  • Katy Perry ft. Kanye West “ET” (Can you guess what chapter I wrote while listening to this?)
  • The Civil Wars “Poison and Wine” (Seriously, go listen to this song NOW. Oh, Daemon xoxoxo)
  • Adele “Rolling in the Deep” (Yeah, read the last chapter… giggle)
  • One Republic “The Good Life” (This song kind of reminds me of the middle of the book)
  • Tori Amos “Spark” (Listened while writing some of the Homecoming night stuff)
  • Drowning Pool “Bodies” (Pretty much a fight scene song)
  • Marilyn Manson “Sweet Dreams” (It’s time to go to the library)
  • Hole “Gold Dust Woman” (Okay, so it has nothing to do with the book, but I listened to it)
  • Marilyn Manson “Beautiful People” (Man, there’s a creepy amount of good looking peeps in WV)

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a str
anger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Congrats for your Lux series! The description sounds fantastic, and I love Entangled's cover art for their books. Great playlist too! 🙂

  2. Stella (Ex Libris)

I'm sure I have many others, but the favourite bad boy character that comes to mind right now is Adrian from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series. He is so adorable and sexy despite his playboy ways ;-D

And if he has to be an alpha male, then definitely Curran, even though he has some good guy attributes (responsible, etc.) he retains most of the bad boy qualities (dangerous, powerful, sexy as hell.. yum :-D)

  3. Julie S

Great giveaway. My favorite bad boy alpha male would have to be Spike. The question didn't specify that it had to be a book character 😉

  4. Anonymous

I would have a few. I love Vishous from BDB-JR Ward, Bones from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress, Eric from Charlaine Harris sookie Stackhouse series, and Logan from Jodi Redford's series.
Thanks for the chance to win. Have heard great things about this author and her books. Would love to win.

My fave Bad boy alpha male is Renier Laroche(Nightshade-YA), another bad boy Adrian Ivankshov(VA & Bloodlines – YA) and Eric(Sookie Stackhouse series – Non-YA).

  6. Victoria

Larissa Ione's Wraith is my favorite bad boy.
This series looks good. I've read several interviews and all have to positive. Thank you.

  7. Na

Barrons from the Fever series or Zsadist from the BDB series. Very alpha and very appealing.

  8. Onge

Thanks for the giveaway. There are so many good bad boy alphas out there. From my most current read I would have to say Ren from Nightshade.

  9. Dusia

My favourite bad boy? Definitely Nightshade's Ren! [Klaudia Ciurka]

    BTW, Thanks for the giveaway!

  10. Chris

Favorite alpha male would have to be Jerricho Barrons. Obsidian sounds amazing-thanks for the great giveaway!

  11. Gabbie

Ooooh Bones definitely, from Night Huntress. Oh and Barrons of coarse. I'd say Adam from the Mercy Thompson series but he's not really bad… but he is damn fine.

Really looking forward to reading Obsidian!

  12. Marthapao

That is a wicked awesome song list! I have most of those songs on my iPod, I know I will listen to them as I read the book. 😀

  13. Proserpine

Hmmm I really like Jericho Barron from the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning! I did enjoy Colt in The Witches of the Glass Castle by Gabriella Leprone! Thanks!

    Proserpine

  14. Lovelee

Sounds like like a great new series. Can't wait to read.
My favorite bad boy is Curran. Yummy.

  15. Cassandra Hansen

from a YA Series I'l have to say Patch from Hush Hush and from an adult series I'd say Jericho Barrons. I don't think that i've ever read an alien book before but i'm looking forward to it!

  16. Gidget

My favorite bad ass has to be John Pritkin from the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance. He's one loyal, powerful, and dedictated Mage.

  17. Salma

Oh man, so many to choose from. I guess my current favorite would have to be Pritkin from the Cassie Palmer series.
    I'm excited to read Obsidian!

  18. LisaILJ

I guess I will say Patch from Hush Hush. I usually don't like bad boys, and I didn't really like Patch at first, but in the most recent book, he was…wow.

  19. KCecce

Currently my fave bad boy happens to be Damon Salvatore, but that's lible to change shortly. I have a tendancy to love, love, love fictional bad boys.
