Book Description

Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren’t for the magic. When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it rose.

Kate Daniels works for the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle—especially if they involve Atlanta’s shapeshifting community.

When she’s called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar midway between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers there’s a new player in town. One who’s been around for thousands of years—and rode to war at the side of Kate’s father.

This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, to handle. Because this time, Kate will be taking on family…

Book 4 in The Kate Daniels Series

MAGIC BLEEDS is one of those pivotal books that can either make or break the series. Vital changes take place. Kate’s heritage comes to light and the effect on her life is catastrophic. She loses everything. It’s probably one of the grimmer books we’ve written, but it’s also the most relationship heavy…This is the book where Kate and Curran decide. They both know that whichever way they go, there is no turning back…But no matter how grim, MAGIC BLEEDS ends with hope. It ties the plot threads raised in the previous three books, clears the field, and weaves new ones, so the characters can move on to new and exciting adventures. – Ilona & Gordon Andrews

Review:
MAGIC BLEEDS
is a game changer. Ilona and Gordon have been warning us that huge changes were in store for Kate and co. in this 4th book and they weren’t kidding. What they didn’t warn us about was the fact that MAGIC BLEEDS is the best Kate Daniels book yet. And that’s saying something.

In a world where magic Bites, Burns, Strikes, Mourns, and Bleeds in turn, Kate Daniels is the perfect urban fantasy heroine. She’s tough and fiercely loyal with a streak of bravery that goes straight to her bones. But she’s also practical and short tempered enough not to always think with her head. With Kate, heart wins out every time.

Ilona and Gordon perfectly blend character development with break neck action in MAGIC BLEEDS. One page will be explaining the twisted mythological history of Kate’s family, and the next is a showdown with Curran and Saiman (oh you knew that was coming), with Kate holding Slayer in middle. And FYI, there is a sex scene in MAGIC BLEEDS is straight out of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. But you’ll have to read the book to find out who.

It’s official, while I still love the Mercy Thompson series, after reading MAGIC BLEEDS, the Kate Daniels series is now my pick for the best urban fantasy series ever. MAGIC BLEEDS changes everything for Kate. Everything. Ilona and Gordon have done what few authors have done before: They’ve taken a beloved series, ripped its guts out, nearly destroyed its main character, and given their fans something infinitely precious: a series that, instead of slowing down, has just been given its second wind. Kate Daniels is better than ever. The next Magic book can’t come soon enough!

Sexual Content: References to sex. One graphic sex scene.

My Rating (out of 5):

I really enjoy Mercy Thompson too. But after reading Magic Bleeds, I walked away thinking that this series just might now be my fave urban fantasy series too. Luvd this book!

    2. Marg

I am pretty tough to satisfy as a reader. Lately, almost everything I've read has failed to really engross me and at the end, has left me unsatisfied. There have been very few books I've actually liked and even less that I've truly loved. The Kate Daniels series is definitely at the top of the books I've loved. I adore everything about the series–the characters, the relationships, the magical world, the action, the writing style. I totally agree with your review. Magic Bleeds is the best book yet (I think with each new installment, the series got better). I've already started to recommend it to others.

    3. Maria

I loved this book and thought it was really excellent…but I'm not going to go as far as saying that it has supplanted all of the other urban fantasy books that I love…it is excellent though for the series and I'm really curious now as to what will happen next as there eventually has to be an ultimate showdown.

    4. Abigail [All Things Urban Fantasy]

Tina – Don't get me wrong, Mercy is fantastic, but Kate has been consistently awesome. With Magic Bleeds she took the top spot.

Marg – Aren't they great? And we get another story in this world on July 20th in the Dark and Stormy Knights anthology. Can't wait!

Maria – That was what I loved so much, the series is wide open as to what happens next. The showdown will come eventually. In the meantime we get to just enjoy the ride!

Heather – Right? It was just like the movie scene. I thought it was a perfect scene for those characters.

    5. Rebecca @ DSB

Yep, I'm with you Abigail… this series is at the top of my UF list, and it's going to take something mind-meltingly good to bump it off.

    6. Abigail [All Things Urban Fantasy]

Page – Oh you have to read them. They are truly fantastic. Just be ready to be ruined for all other UF series :)

Danielle87 – Ditto. I expected it to be good, but wow. The series keeps getting better and better.

Rebecca – I can't even contemplate something better than this. Tell me the second you find something even close!

I've heard such amazing things about this latest book in the series. I'm afraid I've only read the first Kate Daniels book. Good news is I have book 2 waiting on my shelf to be picked up. I'm definitely gonna have to get to it ASAP =)
